Studio space is too small even by NYC standards.

Many services under one roof. 9/6/2013

The New American Youth Ballet is a great place for any child to learn about music and ballet. Their staff is world class and studio is kept very clean. I've never had any issues with the staff or felt my child unsafe around any of the NAYB employees. Including music and ballet, they just created a children's yoga class. The pricing of their classes/lessons is very fair considering the quality ballet productions they put on which include a full orchestra. more

New American Youth Ballet 9/2/2013

New American Youth Ballet is a great program for children of different ages and backgrounds. It's directed by Elizabeth Flores, who is not only a professional, caring, charismatic and highly motivated teacher, but a great dancer herself, thus being a wonderful role model for her students. The program has two large performances per year presenting full-length ballets, such as Nutcracker, Coppelia or Sleeping Beauty. It is hard to overestimate importance of these performances for kids. They get to be on stage with the professionals, participating in creating a show together. Having seen a few shows myself, I can appreciate the enthusiasm, joy, and great effort to do their best that even kids as young as 3-4 years old demonstrate. Finally, a really unique feature that makes the performances of the school to stand out, is that they are accompanied by live orchestra. The Richmond County Orchestra conducted by Maestro Alan Aurelia is performing the great music by Tchaikovsky, Delibes, and other composers and makes the magic of the classical ballet performance complete. I am sure that no matter what profession Elizabeth's students are to choose later in life, their ballet experience will always stay the most memorable, and they will be always the better persons for that. more

Ballet with heart! 5 stars! 11/14/2011

My daughter learned from and danced with this company in the early years before they settled in Battery Park. They operated the very same way, a non profit that this dynamic mother and daughter established to offer cultural arts to many who could not afford it. Their hard work and sacrifice opened up a whole new world to my children and I. Theirs was a labor of love., I watched them struggle with too little space, never quite enough help and yet managed to always pull off a rich production with live orchestra on almost nothing . And our children were always supplied with costumes at no charge and paid a very small flat rate monthly fee for classes and performance instruction. Most of all, I watched these dedicated women create an environment of respect for others with the expectation the students would follow their example. Most did, and those who did not were gently corrected. My children, now adults, and I will be foreve grateful, and our community was much richer for the blessing. . more

NAYB is great! 10/28/2011

The NAYB is a wonderful company, and much needed in lower Manhattan. They offer their students scholarships and several performance opportunities. Two major ballets a year with professional dancers and full symphony orchestra are produced! Their co-founder was awarded dance teacher of the year by Dance Teacher Magazine. I wish I could give them 10 stars. more

NYAB is one of the best decisions I have made for my daughter 10/17/2011

The ballet school has been an integral part of my daughter's youth. She has been a student since she was two. (currently seven). The instructors lend their extensive and impressive expertise in dance to the girls while also passing along lessons in politeness, kindness and self respect. It is a non competitive environment, which enables the girls to develop strong friendships with dancers of all skill sets and ages. They support each other. The dance performances, which take place several times each year, enabled my daughter to conquer her stage fright and become a self assured, wonderful ballerina. NAYB is a fantastic member of the BPC community and one of the reasons we love it so much here!! more

Classical ballet with heart 10/15/2011

New American Youth Ballet has been a wonderful school for my daughter and many of other students. I have seen her grow as a talented, graceful dancer and it is all due caring instruction of their gifted staff. Their number one goal is looking out for the best interest of their students. They have always been professional and they work tirelessly to bring out the best in all of their students and their productions. All students have an opportunity to dress in (FREE) costumes and perform- with no audition whatsoever. The younger children learn to dance through the use of music, props and their imagination. The older students learn the ballet discipline within such a unique setting that it makes each child feel like its a private lesson. Summer camps/classes are filled with a wide variety of activities and field trips like dance, theater, cultures, swimming, museums, and crafts. If you are looking for a highly-skilled, fun, friendly, and personal ballet experience for your child I highly recommend them. more

The Best-5 1/2 Stars 10/16/2008

Good: I most loved the care and concern for the children as people. I loved seeing the children open up and brighten their eyes when the instructor arrives.. Bad: I most disliked that there aren't enough of these individuals in the other parts of New York!. Improvements: I would love to see more of these NAYBs around all of the five boroughs. They are priceless.. more

Ballet Classes 3/6/2005

New American Youth Ballet offers classes for kids as young as 2. They try to make the class fun for kids and they have props like puppets and rubber ducks. They "paint" rainbows and pretend to have sticky bubble gum on their shoes. The classes are small for the younger classes so there is a lot of individual attention. They suggest donations as payment for classes and those who cannot afford it can make separate arrangements. Their philosophy is that activities like these should be accessible to everyone. The two drawbacks are that their remote location makes it a little bit difficult to get to and the studio is quite small. more
