Pathetic 3/23/2010

What a memorable experience. I have diabetes, go everywhere with my golden retriever service dog, and went to this salon for a manicure. After being verbally assaulted by a white trash female customer of theirs who ridiculed me and yelled at me for showing up in their salon with my dog even after I had explained my disability and showed them my medical card, their manicurist told me they would not serve me and I explained this was illegal. Then she called the owner who agreed to have the salon lady do my manicure. The white trash woman continued her tirade and said she was a 'loyal customer of the salon for the past 8 years' and that she would 'pay to have them NOT do my manicure just so that I would leave'. At that point, the salon did nothing except let her continue to rant, and I told her to leave me alone. Finally she left and the manicurist sat down to begin my manicure. When I explained that I wanted a French manicure with tips, she refused to do it on the grounds that she ""didn't want my dog in the salon any longer than necessary"" and that ""a French style with tips would take much longer than a regular manicure"". I left the salon and found a nice place around the corner that was professional and happy to have my business. To say that the Avanti Nail Spa was a dump with rude employees and even ruder customers would be an understatement. Experiences like this one remind me of why New Yorkers deserve their reputation as the rudest people in the country. Pros: you can leave and still make it to another nail salon nearby Cons: nasty service, non-service, nasty clients more

never wax here 5/27/2009

I had the most terrible expirience ever in this place . I wanted to have Brazilian bikini wax , so it was 60 $ , then they charge me 10 $ for sensitive skin wax , and 10 $ to do the back ------ i never heard of brazilian bikini wax that does not include the back area for 60 $ WHAT A RIP OFF . I dont recomend any one to wax with these people ! In any location esp in 888 -8th avenue ! The woman took 40 minutes , when normally its 15 , and for 80$ what a waste of time and $ . The manager couldnt explain why 60 $ bikini wax did not include the back ... insted she was mean , yelling , and screaming at me in front of other clients ! I will never go back there again for any service . Pros: none Cons: overpriced more

Clean, Great Service and Friendly 3/19/2009

I had the special, with the manicure, pedicure and massage. The treatment was great and the prices were reasonable. I would recommend this salon to anyone who wants a good quiality manicure or pedicure! The massage was a wonderful added feature, just enough to release tension! Pros: great quality mani and pedi more

washed the washed clothes in pedicure bath with customers there!!! 12/7/2008

I went here last friday becasue it was a bit closer to where I was meeting friends than the place I had tried out a week before. The woman that did my nails was fine, she just quickly went through the motions. It wasnt great but nothing horrible either. French manicure looked good, though it was about 4 dollars more than the previous place just a block more up the street. The problem came when I sat to dry my nails, a few workers took a bunch of the dirty wash clothes used to wrap around hands from the steamer- they proceeded to fill up one pedicure bath, put detergent in it, soak them and than put them in the next pedicure bath of clear water to rinse. The fact that they would clean wash cloths where feet get soaked is disgusting to me. It's not like bleach was used. I will never ever go back here. Pros: none Cons: question the hygiene, price more

The perfect place to relax after a long week of work... 6/10/2008

I have lived in the Upper West side for about 3 years now and just this past year found Avanti...thank goodness! After a long week of work, I love to go their early Saturday morning for a Mani, Pedi, and Waxing. The environment is calm, quiet, and truly a place to get away from it all. I highly recommend this nail salon. One warning on the weekends and after 5pm during the week it gets crowded, the most relaxing time to go is Saturday or Sunday morning! Pros: Beautiful atmosphere Cons: Can get crowded more

among the best in the Midtown West 12/23/2007

I come from a salon owners family and I think this place is very good. I have been to many salons in NYC and this is among the best ones in the Midtown West area for a reasonably priced Manicure and Pedicure. As with any salon you need to find your manicurist who does your nails the way you like as each one of us is different. I have my nails done with the same women each week and once I explained what I wanted she was able to deliver. Pros: Great location, Appointments always available, Friendly service Cons: Needed to explain needs more

Inconsistent experience... 3/31/2007

I have been to this place many times for waxing and mani-pedi. I like that they are open late till 10pm. However, each time I have had very inconsistent experiences. The first time my waxing was perfect! The second and third, so terrible that I stopped going there for waxing. Sometimes I try the sea salt pedicure because the massage is relaxing. The first 1-2 times it was good. After that, it just went downhill. The last time I was there, the pedicurist was very annoying - clearly I wanted to have some peace and quiet and she wouldn't stop talking to me. Also, she kept telling me 'you know this pedicure costs $$$, right?' I told her that I had it before, but she wouldn't stop telling me that. I was quite embarrassed actually. And she honestly had no manners at all in terms of talking, plus she performed a very bad massage. For me, that was it. I have never gone back. Pros: Good decor, late hours Cons: Very inconsistent skill more

This is the best Nail spa I've been to in NYC....period. The entire staff are extreme pros (my fav is Kim). I've visited several salons in the city and I have to say this this one is the cleanest and most relaxing salon there is. I LOVE the hours of they stay open later than most nail spots. Once I was preparing for a wedding and needed to get my nails done last minute the night before. I entered the salon at 9:45 and recieved a spa manicure and pedicure. At most salons they would have just slathered on the lotion and called it the night, but they took their time and really made me feel special. I recommend this to ALL OF MY FRIENDS...even my out of town crew. Go'll love it. Pros: close to train and in the middle of the city. clean, neat, friendly staff Cons: is 57th street more
