Terrible Food 12/29/2007

Recently visited Nelsons to branch out and try a new restaurant and the only way to describe the food is terrible. It started with a sashimi tuna appetizer with maple syrup. Strange combination I though but gave it a try. Not good and the tuna was overcooked and low grade. For entrees, I had flank steak with spinach and potatoes. Steak was blan and vegetables were cold. My wife had scallops, rissoto, and vegetables. Once again cold and blan. It's almost like everything is pre made and scooped out to your plate. Server asked how our meal was and I had not choice but to say awful. Our server sent over the manager who handle the situation very well and comp'd our meal. I wouldn't recommend dining there until they do something about the food. Pros: Server, General Manager Cons: Food more

Chef Ramsey Please Help 12/23/2007

About a month ago I ate at Nelsons only because I head they hired a new chef. I ate with my brother and we quickly realized the new chef must have been found on the side of the road. Nelsons claims to be a four star restaurant but once you eat there it?s a notch above a fast food chain. It first started with the bread and butter; the bread was plain and was not homemade. Nelsons served us unsalted butter that was cold. Butter should be served at room temperature and infused with herbs. We then ordered beef spare ribs that were served cold. We sent the appetizer back thinking they would make the order over because any prestige?s restaurant would have reordered the appetizer. What they did was heat the rips in a microwave. I know this because I asked our server. We did order a peck of oysters as well witch was not bad but how do you mess up oysters. Nelsons is known for there seafood. Good seafood means great cocktail sauce. No! wrong again, I have made cocktail sauce since I was young it not hard. Nelsons cocktail sauce had too much ketchup and not enough horseradish. I should have just asked for a bottle of ketchup to go with my oysters. Finally our entrees got to our table I ordered soft shell crab and my brother ordered fish and chips. The soft shell crab had no significance to the dish. It had little salt and I tasted no spices in the batter. The salad that came with my meal was good but keeps in mind it?s a creaser salad. My brother?s fish in chips was not authentic at all. The chips were very thinly sliced potatoes that tasted like air. The fish batter was horrible. Obviously Nelsons tried to put there own curve on a great English dish. \r My advice is to stay far away form this place. The food will disappoint you and leave you needing to take on a second job to pay for the meal. \r Cons: Expensive, disappointing, horrible food more

place is basically awfull... if you like hanging around guys that just graduated from unc or state that sell real-estate in raleigh that ""subtly"" go to the bathroom to do c0ca1ne almost constantly with owner then nelson's is the place... service is awful, food is mediocre at best, and the owner is a pretty low rent kind of guy... do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the dollar menu at mcdonalds across the streat. Cons: all round sleeze more
