Editorial Review 10/28/2011

This museum has a lot of fun and interactive exhibits for the kids such as the All Aboard the silver Streak, the model train, the aviation exhibit, the farm, toymaker3000, chick hatchery and the idea factory. The fairy castle is enchanting and the full scale coal mine is a wonderful experience. more

Who Doesn't Love it 5/27/2006

This museum has a lot to offer, from the stationary exhibits (i.e. submarine) to the changing exhibits (currently Da Vinci). This is the place to spend a day, with kids or without. Be sure to bring film as many of the exhibits are great backdrops (or subjects) for pictures. Easy parking and relatively affordable prices; $11 adult, $7 child. Special exhibits are extra. more

Fun Museum 5/27/2006

This is my favorite of all the Chicago Museums. It just offers so much for people to do. I love their little medical section where they show you how the body works and they have neat presentations. I also really like their depictions of major towns in the past, present, and the future. This museum is just so enjoyable and there are so many different things to do here that everybody can thoroughly enjoy it. more

Check Out The Chicks 5/27/2006

The title is a bad play on words, I know. I like the lower level of this place, because they have this farm setup where you can watch chickens hatch. It is pretty cool to watch them break out of their shells. I used to like coming here as a child for this particular exhibit. There is also this place upstairs where you can get a picture taken of you and who ever else you are with in an old time setting surrounding an old black car. I must have a dozen pictures with me and my family standing around the car smiling. This is a good place to go with the fam. more

Great for the whole family! 5/3/2006

The Museum of Science and Industry is packed with exhibits that will entertain both children and adults! It's been a while since it was updated now, but the 'new' underground parking really added a level of convenience to the museum that makes it more tempting to go. We spend the entire day looking and reading and learning and touching - and when we are too tired to do any more (or the building closes) we often find that we still haven't seen it all. If you use the museum often, consider purchasing a membership. Enjoy! more

Kids love it! 4/13/2006

Kids absolutely love this museum and I can see why! There are parts of it that need updating, but it still has all the classic exhibits that we loved as kids (like the coal mine) and they have updates it a lot to reflect the interests of today's kids. They have a section on robot assisted production, the internet, etc! I love going around Christmas time because their exhibit of Christmas trees from around the world is breathtaking. I'd definitely recommend you make this a stop when yo visit Chicago! more

Spend a day with your family 3/31/2006

The Museum of Science and Industry is filled with wonderful exhibits for every age. Both adults and kids will find interesting stuff everywhere. The underground parking garage is expensive; take CTA instead. If you can attend on a free/discount day, it's best for saving money. It truly takes hours to fully explore this museum - allow a full day! It is a wonderful experience. more

My favorite Chicago Museum 3/19/2006

This museum does an awesome job of merging new exhibits with old favorites. They have a massive amount of space and house everything from an educational children's play area to a pharmacy from the past. You can also almost always find innovative science exhibits to teach you something new on a Saturday afternoon The museum is beautifully arranged and staffed with a wonderful group of attendants to help guide you or offer explanations to your questions. I've often been pleasantly surprised with how much their guides know about the place. You'll definitely need to visit more than twice to get a really feel for what they have to offer. more

Museum of Science and Industry - fun for kids 3/18/2006

The Museum of Science and Industry is a huge complex that is fun for kids. It is by the lake and east of Hyde Park. There are lots of educational and hands-on exhibits, like the incubator where you can watch baby chicks hatch right before your eyes. I like checking out the “foreign” trees from the colorful “Christmas Around the World” exhibit every year. more

Cool, But Gross 3/17/2006

Cool: This place has a huge model train display in the center of it, and an area where you can watch live chicken hatching. There is also a place to get your picture taken in an old car. They even give you hats and scarves to wear. Gross: They give you all of this information on the human body and one part of it has to do with pregnancy. In this exhibit they show you the fetus from start to finish. The bad part about this for me is that the fetus's are real. That might not be gross for everyone, but if you have a weak stomach then you might want to stay clear of that section. more

Museum of Science and Industry 3/10/2006

As a museum professional, I both love and hate this museum. As many other reviewers have mentioned, this giant of a museum has an amazing range of exhibits from a walk/ride-through coal mine to a German u-boat that you can actually tour. There's an omnimax theater and plenty of special exhibitions that are housed in the traveling galleries. What I dislike about this museum is how I have seen parents let their children run wild here. I know that kids learn by touching, and interactive exhibits are meant for lots of that, but I cannot tolerate watching kids slam their fists on computer screens, try to rip panels off the walls, and run around screaming. If your kids can't act civilized and respect the museum, take them to a playground. All in all, this is an amazing museum that is well worth the $12ish dollars of admission. more

Fun Museum 3/1/2006

The Science and Industry Museum is one of the most enjoyable museums in Chicago. For one, it is HUGE and packed with so many fun things to do. You can easily spend in entire day in here just browsing around and checking out all the exhibits. Its also a really fun place to take the kids because of all the interactive exhibits they have. And while the kids enjoy and learn, you will also have a great time. On normal days this museum can be quite expensive, but they do have days where they offer free addmission, so check on their website for those. more

History and Science 2/4/2006

A great museum for kids, but the adults will be fascinated, too. The museum used to be free every Thursday, but now the free days are more sporadic. They're listed on the admissions page of the website, so plan accordingly. Know that weekday free days will likely be packed with elementary school field-trippers. Even when it's not free, this museum will more than fill your day, so it's still worth the admission. more

A lot of family fun! 1/16/2006

Most, if not all of the museums in Chicago are worthwhile ways to spend a day alone or with a family. The Museum of Science & Industry is no different. It is educational, but don't worry, the kids will find lots of stuff to enjoy. It's free on Tuesdays, so try it then if you can. Parking can ve steep so if you can, take the El or the Metro. Buses run regularly as well. If you live or visit here, you need to try it. more

Fun museum for kids of all ages 1/16/2006

This place is one of Chicago's biggest tourist attractions and for good reason. I have been coming here since I was a kid and I still enjoy it. This is one of the original interactive museums. There are buttons to push, levers to turn, cranks to cranks. Motion is the key word. Almost every exhibit moves. They have a model train set up that will knock your socks off if you are into model trains. And of course don't forget the coal mine, the U505 submarine, the walk through heart, etc etc. A fun place for da whole fambily. more

You can't take it all in... 12/13/2005

As much as you try, you'll never be able to truly absorb all the available information in this place. From the Holiday Christmas Tree Display to the day-on-the-life of the farm - it's amazing how much you can learn at MSI. Many of the exhibits are hands-on, and it's sure to get the attention of anyone - 8yrs old to 80yrs old. IF YOU'RE FROM OUT OF TOWN, THIS IS A MUST SEE! more

Wonderful Family Museum 11/10/2005

This museum is one of my favorite "tourist" places I have been to. The displays are excellent, very interesting and enjoyable. They update many parts of the museum frequently so it is worth going back to many times over. It is also very kid friendly with one section that is just especially for kids. My girls love it. They also have free days and you can find when those are on their website. more

Fantastic place to go with family 11/8/2005

There is so much to do here! The exhibits are great and expansive. You could literally spend days here. There are a few drawbacks- parking lot is usually full so be prepared to hike! You have to pay quite a bit to get in and the Omnitheatre is an additional charge! Pack your own lunch or snacks because you can pay an arm and a leg for food there! more

GREAT KIDS MUSUEM 10/15/2005

Museum of Science and Industry is a great place to bring your family. Recently I brought my nephew to see the new submarine (U-505) from the German U Boat. They also have a great exhibit of Robots and history of trains with a large display of model trains. There are so many other exhibits that you can spend the entire days just going through each one. Parking maybe difficult to find but there is always underground parking in Chicago and a quick walk to the Museum. more
