We couldn't believe the line at Mrs. Wilkes...it was around the block but the tour guide told us to not let it deter us, that ten people are seated at a time and that it would be worth it. We are so glad we listened!
Mrs. Wilkes seats 80 patrons at a time at 8 tables of 10. It's family style and you are seated with others you don't know unless you came with a party of 10. When you come in the food and drink is already set on the table and you just begin dining.
We waited in line an hour and a half. Once we sat down we were AMAZED at the spread. Delicious friend chicken, beef stew, about 20 fresh vegetables all prepared southern style, mouth watering biscuits, peach cobbler, banana pudding and more. We feasted to our hearts content and then were instructed ""in keeping with the Wilkes family tradition"" that we were to all take our plates, cups and silverware to the kitchen.
Scrumptious food and a great price for all you receive. We will definitely go back.
Pros: Amazing food, history and hospitality all rolled into one
Cons: Standing in line a long time but it's worth it
