A deli with moxie 8/31/2006

If you've not tasted Moxie, it's an ollllld cult soft drink from New England. The main flavoring agent is gentian, which is really quite bitter. Why do they like Moxie? I don't know. But I know why I like Moxie's Too -- good food and quick service. Moxie's Too is located in a busy office park near Tampa Intl. Airport and they keep workers going with a great formula: offer a variety of fresh food, add good service and make it quick. This deli has such a variety of sandwiches that you can eat there for a year and not get bored. The most popular sandwich seems to be their pressed Cuban, which is good indeed. But try the other sandwiches, too, like the Bleu Max (turkey, bacon and blue cheese) or any number of sandwiches that feature their signature cole slaw. Sloppy to eat, but good. The voodoo egg salad and the "Say Cheese" sandwich are popular with more than just the vegetarian set. Salads, soups and fresh fruit are also available for lighter appetites. Breakfast jitters are allayed, too, by bracing cafe con leche with cinnamon- and butter-smathered Cuban toast or old-fashioned Southern classics like grits and eggs. The staff at Moxie's is fast, the service is friendly (though don't dawdle over your order if they are busy -- this is a no-no) and the dining area is small and crowded, but in a friendly way. Most people take food out and eat back at their offices or outside if the weather is cooperating. If you eat outside, enjoy the family of ducks that has nested and raised several generations around the restaurant. Prices are reasonable. A sandwich, chips and drink will run you about $7.00 but the daily special (usually a Cuban, chips and drink) costs about $4.00. more
