Please read if you love your child 12/3/2011

I brought my two little girls here about 6 months ago, and I have never seen my older daughter so unhappy before. She became so withdrawn and lost all her confidence, I spoke three different times to Mr.Charles and the problem never got any better! Then to top it off two of the only people that spoke to her and played with her where the teachers that taught her, and guess what they both QUIT there position in a months time, one after the next, then the front desk lady also quit all at the same time. Very weird and I hope you all read this before sending your children here! ps they also run after your pocket book, and the men that work there are creepy! Stay away! more

Wonderful School 8/6/2011

Both my daughters attended Mother Goose School until very recently when they began kindergarten (overall we were there for nearly 3 years). I simply can't say enough good things about the school. I never worried when leaving my girls there and they were always excited to go to school. The management and teachers are great and, contrary to a couple other reviews, create a nurturing and positive environment. They give kids the skills they need to be responsible, kind and respectful. Yes, there may be an occasional time-out when appropriate, but parents are always made aware of any challenges so they can work together with the school to resolve ongoing issues. My girls were treated with kindness and respect and easily made the transition to kindergarten. The school has an on-site chef and their meals are terrific. I never had any issues with the back office - statements and other information I needed was provided without delay. Happy kids, great memories, and smooth transition to more

This school seems to be all about the money. While other schools have waiting lists, mgs will enroll everyone and then place them in whatever program they have open. Mr. Charles has a seething and angry way about him and is condescending. The owner is down right creepy and but for his inheriting the school, he is the last guy that you would imagine running a preschool ( let alone want to keep your children around.) The teachers and other staff members act like they are scared for their jobs. This is an unhappy place, avoid! more

Great no-nonsense school 10/6/2010

Our daughter went to Mother Goose 5 days a week for 2 1/2 years until she recently left to go to kindergarten. As with the majority of other reviews, we found the teachers to be wonderful - our daughter loved her time there and misses not just her friends, but also the teachers and staff.\r \r Some of what the other reviewers have concerns about is at least partially true - the office at MGS is a bit of a mess, and the staff can be a little short with some of the kids at times. Some of the staff (Mr Dana and Mr Charles) aren't what you'd call touchy-feely, and this can be offputting to some parents. The business side of things sometimes seems a little haphazard - getting invoices etc. isn't as slick as some places.\r \r Frankly, we were attracted by the fact that MGS has a reputation for being 'no-nonsense' (it was even referred to by one parent who didn't like it as 'strict') and my daughter (who is very outgoing and had spent time in a family daycare situation since she was 4 months old) more

A wonderful gem of a school! 8/20/2010

My son has attended MGS for 3.5 years and my daughter has been there for 1.5 years. They love going to school every morning and I am grateful for the loving teachers, the age-appropriate activites and curriculum, the other wonderful families and children that we have befriended over the years, and the affordable tuition. Both of my children have done very well and get complimented frequently by strangers on their good manners. MGS offers a structured but loving environment. We recently went through the kindergarten application process in SF and admissions directors at the private and parochial schools we visited all expressed their high-regard for MGS and the quality of the kids performance when they move on. Ms. Susan is very well respected and I have found a wonderful partnership at MGS. Thank you! more

Concentration camp for kids. 5/26/2010

If you don?t mind paying for your child to be yelled at, disrespected, ignored, humiliated and generally treated badly this is a school for you. If I had to do it again, I would never allow my child to enter this preschool. Avoid at all costs. more

do not recommend 3/23/2010

I have worked there.\r And what the woman say about inappropriate behavior is true. As an insider I know that the staff , especially Mr Dana and his wife are not treating the children with the care they deserve, they don't treat teachers very well either.\r The teachers are great but the office is totally outdated, you can just tell what a mess they are just by looking at their office. \r Again i am talking about the office people, not the teachers who are great caring teachers more

I went to Mother Goose (1978) & both my boys 8/20/2008

I attended Mother Goose 30 years ago still have fond memories of the staff and entire experience. There is a family type of environment along a fantastic learning environment. Not only is the space great (nice outdoor area plus spacious inside), they have home made hot meals everyday. \r \r Both of my boys attended (2002-2005 & 2005-2008) and their transition into Catholic school was seamless. They always speak about their experience in a positive light and miss attending. Ms. May, Ms. Mildred & Ms. Linda are the BEST teachers ever - they are fun but still have control over their classroom. My youngest son ended up reading by the end of his stay at Mother Goose. Mrs, Susan is very open minded and will listen to any concerns you may have - and she will follow up. They are also very reasonably priced compared to other SF preschools. I love Mother Goose!!! more

A great school with the structure the kids need! 8/12/2008

This facility is a great place for kids to learn on all levels: Creativity, linguistics, fun time, etc. My daughter just turned 3 and is a handful, strong-willed like mom and dad. Not only are my observations are a 5 star, but my daughter looks forward (with great enthusiasm) each day of going to 'esquella' (my daughter is half Hispanic). If your child does not respond well to structure, find another facility. In my view, their curriculum and structure prepares kids for the real-world and maximizes their development. more

Good school 2/12/2008

I'm surprised that someone ranked Mother Goose with one star. That does not reflect our experience at all.\r \r Our son has been attending Mother Goose for a year and a half. He enjoys the school. His development has been impressive. The teachers and staff care a lot about him. He's very close to his teachers -- a three year old can't fake affection.\r \r Every other parent I've talked to about the school is happy with it. Many of them have enrolled multiple children in the school.\r \r Perhaps most significantly, Mother Goose has been around for over 50 years, and has been managed by the same family ever since. As a result, they are well known and have a good track record. more

Unbiased Review Available 1/11/2008

I submit this review without any communication with the school on the topic of reviews, and completely independently. I found this site by accident, looking for the zip code of the school.\r \r Our child has attended Mother Goose school for two years. Our other child, (post-pre-school now) who attended a different San Francisco pre-school entirely, has become the friend of the director. The director has been extremely kind, generous, and supportive of our family. The co-director has also demonstrated great care and concern for our children, as have all the staff. \r \r There may be differences of opinion at any school, between parents and teachers over behavior. That does not entitle anyone to an immature outburst of accusations in a review. \r \r It is an extremely demanding and difficult to teach pre-school children. It requires skills that are undervalued and under appreciated in our society. Teachers are worthy of respect, as are the people who care for my children, as is everyone at more

TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE APPROACH AND COERSIVE TYPE OF PRE-SCHOOL 10/20/2007

ppropriate "anger" and frustration, and feel scard of this man. Mr. Dana's wife and co-conspirator-Ms Susan does a good job of hiding the true abusive nature of this school. \r \r The program is developmentally inappropriate, with a harsh and unhappy staff, and children unable to cope with the rigorous demands of following orders, and expectations, are punished with shame and humilation. \r \r Do not send your child here! more

Mother Goose School 9/22/2005

Mother Goose School is a great place for kids. I know of at least two situations where parents came to visit significantly earlier then our friends whose kids joined at 2.5 yo and were so taken with the place that they simply waited for their kids to be old enough so that they could start at Mother Goose School. While looking, our friend visited six caregivers and nothing else came close. Another parent told me that she'd tried twelve with the same finding. more
