Don't miss the corn dog shrimp!

I've been hearing people talk about this place for years! My boyfriend and I decided to try it out. It was a Saturday, so we expected it to be busy. The hour wait wasn't the probl...

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/29/2012

Went there for the first time for dinner after hearing the brunch was very good. It lived up to the expectations. We started with the fried calamari and it was very crispy, but melted in your mouth. I had the eggplant parmasean and it was excellent. Ended with the apple pie that had maple icecream. \r \r Had great service and atmosphere. I now need to try brunch. more

Great food and atmosphere 1/5/2011

It is a pretty unassuming place; however if you are in the area you should try it out. A true Austin restaraunt all the way. more

You MUST eat here! 12/22/2010

This place is delicious! I think I tried a bite of almost everyone's plate and was very satisfied with everything! I would definitely recommend a side of the baked macaroni. The atmosphere is fun, and it's a great place for a large group. It's conveniently tucked towards I-35 in downtown Austin which makes parking a bit easier if you go early. The only downside to this restaurant is that there are no reservations Friday-Sunday. It gets busy because this place has such a great variety of food, so get there early! Don't worry if you get there and there happens to be a wait because the drinks are great too! I suggest the Silvermoon Margarita! more

Salads!! 12/17/2010

The cornflake-crusted chicken salad & the Waldorf chicken salad are terrific!\r \r It can get a little loud when crowded, but the old stone house decor is quite inviting.\r \r Portions are huge.\r \r Only con is $4 for valet. more

Amazing food and service! 11/27/2010

My wife and I tried this place because we wanted a nice, romantic place to eat while staying in the downtown Hilton after our wedding. The flavor combinations left me astounded and the down-home cooking vibe reminded me of being a child...if the food when I was a child was ten times better. I had the smoked chicken with the Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce, and she had the pepper crusted tuna steak with paper-thin fennel and granny smith apples on top...both are HIGHLY recommended. The atmosphere was made even better with being there during the holdiay season. I wish I had been able to remember our waitress' name, because she was amazing. My wife and I will definitely be going back soon. more

Awesome Brunch 10/21/2010

Love the brunches here. Moonshine introduced me to my new absolute favorite drink too, the pomagranate mimosa! I've brought several people to experience brunch at Moonshine, thus far everyone's loved it. The wait for brunch is a pain but it's only because its so awesome. more

Excellent Brunch 7/7/2010

Excellent time with mother-in-law and my wife for brunch. A top 5 brunch in all of Austin. Strong drinks, excellent food, great service. Usually go here for brunch only. Dinner is hit or miss with service. Servers get busy and forget about their entire section. Never had anything that wasn't delicious to eat there though. Pros: great good, great service, great location Cons: price more

Great food and atmosphere!!! 5/5/2010

I must say, I am so glad we tried this place! From the moment, I walked in I knew it would be a great place. There was a little bit of a wait, but there's a bar outside and another waiting area where you can wait, without being in the way of people coming in the place. We had the RIBS! which is a must if you come here! I had the trout as my dish and it was to die for! Definitely coming back when I visit Austin again! We tried to go back before we left town, but it was an hour and a half wait! Pros: Everything is great here! Cons: Parking can be a little tough, so Valet is the way to go... more

I love this freakin place! 4/8/2010

Maybe it's because earlier in the week, paid $12.25 for a shot of tequila at a hotel bar, but the Moonshine shot at Moonshine the restaurant were nothing short of awesome. They had 2 boozes mixed, chilled, and served up for $4.50. For those versed in the vernacular, this gets the job done. After two, I was ready to defend the honor of my beloved IU. Go Big Red! Fortunately for me, standing upright quickly brought the balance compromising potency of the shots to my mind.\r \r Next came the appetizers. My olden lady and I had the Crab Backs. It's a crab cake served in a crab shell. I've had crab cakes all over Chicago (Heaven on Seven, Pete Miller's) and Key West (Kelly's Caribbean, Blue Heaven). The Moonshine Crab Backs were as good or better.\r My entree was simple. I had the Buffalo Meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Some call it comfort food. I call it great food.\r Wait. \r I forgot the popcorn that they bring to the table in lieu of nachos. Even it was delicious.\r Finally, my wife had the brownie. I was underwhelmed by the lack of middle tongue chocolate complexity. I'm not sure that's a thing but I know what I like. It does not matter, though. I would go back tomorrow if we were still in Austin.\r Pros: Great drinks and food Cons: dessert brownie lacked middle tongue complexity more

Southern Cooking- Austin Style 3/29/2010

Moonshine has great food, drinks, location and atmosphere. The macaroni and cheese is amazing and the servers are always helpful. \r \r The dim lighting and home-cooked-meal atmosphere is perfect for a first date or a night out with friends. \r \r The unique, yet comfortable menu items are all a hit and the location is perfect for your pre-downtown dinner spot. Pros: great mac and cheese! more

Great for Downtown lunch 1/4/2010

Went to lunch with a friend. It was his first time to go to Moonshine. It was my first time for lunch. The lunch menu is greats-apps, salads, sandwiches and entrees including horseradish salmon & chipotle chicken fried steak which is what we ordered. Both were served with generous portions of seasonal vegetables and a choice of one of their delicious sides. I've been several times for happy hour as well and it's a great one. Their cocktails are unique but delicious. I love the ambiance...the place is just cool. Pros: Mac & Cheese is the BOMB & I love the Cocktails Cons: sometimes parking is a pain but they have valet more
