Worst

Are you kidding me? How can this place get such good reviews? The pizza is TERRIBLE! The salad I had before the pizza was wonderful -- but this pizza is just plain bad.

Go somewhere else 8/28/2011

This review will have nothing to do with the quality of the food or if it was worth the price because I never made it that far. My wife and I went to Moonlight for dinner tonight and we were told by the girl at the bar that we could seat ourselves outside. We sat there for 15 minutes without so much as a hello from our server who walked by our table 5 times. more

Great pizza... absolutely terrible service 3/20/2011

Let me start by saying that there were two good things about our visit: the pizza was amazing and it was nice to have outdoor seating. Now for the bad... we got there and waited for some direction on where to sit. After getting none, we seated ourselves and watched as the severs walked past us several times. We finally had our drink orders taken after about ten minutes and we also placed an order for hummice, thinking that the pizza was going to take a long time. We ordered a child's pizza and a large pizza for the adults. Time passed and the hummice didn't come. We got our pizza, and while it was good, they left out one topping we had asked for and also messed up the kid's pizza. We were starving by that point and just ate the pizza, which was really, really good, but we were so mad about the lack of service that the pizza isn't enough to get us to go back. Furthermore, when we got the bill, we were still billed for the hummice and had to ask to have it taken off. Overall awful service. I would never take my nephew back again due to the long service, but if I had a lot of time to kill, I might chance it again in hopes that they were just having an off day; the pizza really was good. more

Moonlight is our favorite 2/14/2010

We absolutely love Moonlight. We have gone to it for years and years. From its pitchers of good, local beer to the patio, to the themed calzones and pizzas. Venus & Mars pizza is our yearly tradition for Valentines Day. Pros: Venus & Mars Pizza is the best Cons: Parking on busy nights more

$20 pizza on a premade crust? 2/11/2010

Very disappointing experience. Service was good, toppings appeared to be high quality (though not very well seasoned), but the crust ruined the whole thing. It was dry and tasteless and seemed even like it might have been pre-made? Surely for a $20 pizza, someone is back there tossing dough to make crusts - so on the way out I looked into the kitchen and there's a rack of crusts just sitting there drying out. We had 2 pies, a large four-seasons and a medium peperoni - and I was very excited about both, but both were a let-down. Pros: Good toppings. Cons: Worst crust I've had in a long time. more

A true gem 1/30/2009

We go to moonlight several times a month. It's especially pleasant when you can sit outside and relax- the closest thing Raleigh has to eating at an Italian cafe. The food is spectacular! The pizzas and salads((homemade dressings) are really the best in town-seriously. I have always had very attentive service here. I was shocked to read the unfavorable review above, for we have never had any problems w/service. This place is an undeservedly well-kept secret. It deserves to be wildly popular. I can't say enough good things about it and I am a very fussy former restaurant critic. more

SO delicious! Who knew?! 9/9/2008

Drove here around 5pm during the week and thought we were in the wrong place because it is small and unassuming. We walked in and thought the decor was casual but cozy. We sat down at a booth near the front and enjoyed kind, attentive service throughout. The menu looked great, and I ended up choosing the mezaluna calzone with pesto, cheese, and pinenuts, and my friend chose a stromboli and added prosciutto. When they came out to our table, both were steaming hot, BEAUTIFULLY made (you could tell they make them by hand and roll them up so nicely), and we couldn't wait to dig in. We both devoured them and I have been dreaming about that calzone ever since! Can't wait to go back! More expensive than your usual pizza place (ended up costing me about $15 with tip), but soooo worth it!!! Pros: FOOD, service, parking, decor Cons: a little pricier and not in the prettiest part of downtown more

Maybe I went on a bad day... 5/21/2008

So Mellow Mushroom was CROWDED as usual, so my husband remembered Moonlight. So we drive over to Morgan Street and walked right in the door and was sat down at a table on the patio within minutes. Unfortunatley, that was the only great thing, b/c the service was horrible! We had to flag a waiter down to take our drink order after waiting patiently for approx. 20-25 minutes. At that point, we figured it was best to go ahead and order everything which we told was not a problem. Another 35 minutes or so, the pizza arrives. Only another problem, we never received our two appetizers that we ordered. Nor was anyone at our table ever asked if they needed another drink. Finally got more drinks after asking about them. The water came out in a grungy looking glass with no ice. My friend said it tasted like toilet water! So she asked for a diet coke. Came out in yet another grungy glass with no ice. This time, the drink was flat and had no fizz what so ever. Third times a charm - the sweet tea was decent. Never during our visit did we complain. We only raised our hand to get someone's attention when we saw someone and needed something. Luckily the pizza wasn't bad. Pricing was average - not too steep for downtown. And lastly, our waiter could have cared less about us - he never checked on us, we basically had to work to get service. He literally only took our order and just disappeared. Too bad for him, b/c I tip well for great service! We really had a bad experience there and have no intentions of returning. We will take our chances and wait an hour and a half at Mellow Mushroom :o) Pros: Price, Location, Decent Pizza Cons: SERVICE SERVICE SERVICE!!!!! more

Delicious Pizza! 5/10/2008

Best pizza in Raleigh!!! I would order it to go because the furniture is not very comfortable. I will eat here tonight probably even though I know it's not comfy. Pros: pizza, pasta dishes, prices Cons: furniture more

Great Pizza, Great Bar Selection, Super neat ambiance 2/8/2007

Tasty Pizza, with any type topping you can image, made specially for you! We always get half no-cheese pizza with avocado and pistachios (really is tremendously good!) and half whatever combo the the cheese-and-meat-eater wants. Great selection of beverages, interesting servers (in a good way!), and eclectic atmosphere in an arty spot near downtown. The food may be a tiny bit pricey, but sooo worth it if you want to spend time with a friend, share some laughs and even share some tears over pizza and then coffee (as we and our sister have done too many times before). The booths feel really neat and secluded from each other which allows for rockin privacy too. Or dine on the patio when the weather's nice and enjoy the view toward downtown. Love this place for sooo many reasons. Pros: Amazing topping selection and great environment Cons: A teensy bit pricey more

Great salads, easy take out 12/20/2006

I get salads to go at lunch time fairly often (the Greek Salad with chicken is fabulous), and find the service friendly and quick. Most of the folks there remember what I order, so it's easy to feel like a ""regular"". I like going to dinner there when I want a casual, low key atmosphere where you can have a conversation. Good beer on tap! Pros: Good service, good food, quiet and nice atmosphere more

great place to wine and dine... 11/7/2005

i go here atleast once a week with friends, we live just a few blocks away and this is by far the best neighborhood hangout i have found. the food is perfect everytime, service is wonderful, and atmosphere is inviting. this is the kind of place you can go and just relax or bring a group and have a blast Pros: food, service, location Cons: not open everyday more

Best kept secret in town 8/3/2004

I accidently came across this restaruant. Since my discovery, I never EVER went back to Mellow Mushroom. My experience there was awful, food was so mediocre, service was slow and absolutely rude, I felt pressured to eat and leave so they can seat more guests. I think I may have had better pizza out of the freezer. Moonlight's service was friendly and energetic. I always have a friendly chat with them. The decor was vibrant and cheerful. I took a tour of all the art on their walls while I waited for my food to arrive...and the food presentation looked like art itself. The pizza was delicious! I love going there and not having to wait. I hope this secret doesn't get out...I would hate to see the tranquil ambience to change. My only problem with them is that they are not open for lunch All in all, super experience. Pros: relaxed environment, Inexpensive, GREAT food more

Where Everybody Knows Your Name 2/8/2004

That the pizza at Moonlight is the best in town is already well known, so let me just say that I love Moonlight for the neighborhood feel and the awesome cocktails. My boyfriend and I head over to Moonlight every Friday night, sometimes to eat but always to sit at the bar and relax. The staff all know us and greet us like friends, and many of the patrons are neighbors and folks we've met there. The biggest secret about Moonlight is that Dave, manager and bartender on Friday nights, mixes drinks to die for. Moonlight is our own Cheers! Pros: Neighborhood feel, Cocktail scene, Value more

you'll come back for more 11/1/2002

I can't say enough about Moonlight. I've never had to wait to be seated, the service has always been stellar, and the atmosphere is great. The food is excellent--the bruschetta is divine in its simplicity, the pizzas outdo Lilly's in my opinion, and salads & pasta dishes are great too. Good selection of beer & wine. I go there a couple times a month-it's consistently that good. more

Best kept secret 8/23/2002

oonlight combines great food with a relaxing and sexy decor. And tucked away in a quiet portion of downtown, its perfect for starting the evening off or closing it out. For dinner, try a vanilla stoli martini and any one of their awesome calzones. more
