montessori at its best 10/14/2010

I attended MINW for the Primary Training Course during 2009-2010. During the time at MINW I had the opportunity to meet extraordinary people who shared the philosophy. The course connected the true potential of children to the beauty of Montessori as a whole. The training staff were genuine, intelligent, and embraced Montessori in every way. As a first year teacher, I think about the words that were spoken by Ginni and Sarah on a daily basis, as they are enlightening and inspiring. Being a part of the course was one of the most uplifting and challenging parts of my life and I wouldn't change a thing about it. more

Awesome experience at this training center 8/6/2008

I graduated from MINW last year (2007) and it was a life changing experience for me. Even when I was neck-deep in work (and there's a LOT of work) I loved it. It was very inspirational and refreshing to me (I feel good about humanity again :) I can't imagine getting a better grounding in Montessori theory and classroom practice than at I did at MINW. The staff was professional and friendly - very helpful but were still good about abiding by school policies, etc.. Ginni (the trainer) has to be seen to be believed - every day she would come in with energy and give these wonderful, passionate and USEFUL lectures on the theory and the materials. It's worth listening to her speak at a parent night or info night if you're on the fence about taking the course! The facility is pretty nice. Could be bigger in the practice classroom but I hear they're getting a second practice classroom so it won't be so crammed with big adult bodies when you're practicing with the Montessori materials. I'm really proud of the work I did at MINW and the name of the training center carried weight when I applied for jobs around the country (even in Connecticut, Chicago, etc...). Be aware - it's a very thorough and intensive course, so be prepared to work hard and keep in mind that you won't have a ton of free time. This is not like an online or distance course where you can take it at your own pace. They work you hard but you come to love it! I would recommend it to anyone who is committed to improving the lives of children and is interested in alternative education! Pros: Amazing lecturer, facility is pretty nice, incredibly in-depth and thorough training Cons: None! more

I have attended the Introduction Course, evening classes and had hired the trainer as a consultant for our school. I have found MINW to be a staff of dedicated, loving, hard-working women who have been a tremendous support to both me and my school. more

Excellent teacher training, kind staff, great place to be! 5/29/2008

I trained at MINW a few ago and it was a wonderful experience. The cirriculum was outstanding, I felt ready for the classroom when I left. The trainier and assistant were both knowledgeable and friendly ( I have found the same to be true of all staff members). It was a fun place to be. I have since been back for community education classes. There is a wide variety offered and the topics change from year to year. It is not olnly a great resource for teachers, but parents as well. I highly recommend any offerings from MINW. more

Montessori education at its best 5/29/2008

The staff are helpful and positive. The director is both accessible and knowledgeable. The institute offers a range of services for Montessori teachers, parents and student teachers. I am an Elementary teacher who often takes advantage of their development workshops. more

Good training, nice folks 5/29/2008

Did my AMI primary training here. A tough nine months but worth it. Their employees help you out as much as they can throughtout the training. I have a friend at another training center and it seems like this is one of hte better ones. was a bit price-y (about 7500 when I went there) but other places are charging about the same price for the same training. There are other training courses for cheaper (online, distance learning) but I doubt you would learn as much. Pros: on a bus line, modern facility, staff want you to do well and help a lot Cons: expensive (but same as other places), student lounge isn't huge more

Wonderful experience at this Institute 5/29/2008

I loved my time at MINW. Not sure what the person below is talking about. From what I know, they have a GREAT reputation in portland and beyond as one of the best traning centers. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff, Ginni Sackett (lecturer) is awesome and supportive. There were lots of people of color in my course as well as a few guys and they were treated the same as everyone else. I'm poor, so I can guarantee their not elitist!!! :) I feel really prepared to work as a Montessori teacher after my training there and I would recommend it. Pros: Lecturer is great, good location, nice facility, helpful staff Cons: Limited parking around back but lots of parking on side streets more
