Council Oak Montessori School in Chicago, Illinois nurtures the educational development of children between 3 and 12 years in order to establish a love of learning and heightened cognitive, motor, and abstract thinking skills. For each age group, 3 to 6, 6 to 9, 9 to 12, and 12 to 15, we custom tailor materials and curriculums that enhances children?s focus and concentration to prepare for more intricate study and tasks as young adults.
For 3 to 6 year olds, their primary development is on sensory and motor abilities. We utilize interesting and attractive materials in conjunction with reading, mathematics, geography, history, and science lessons to utilize a child?s entire brain; thereby ensuring they retain both the information presented and the methods by which to absorb that information.
For 6 to 9 year olds, the curriculum shifts from motor functions and basic knowledge to sensory and abstract thought. The use of more advanced materials, pencils, paper, and symbols allows early elementary level students to engage in higher level thought and more complex subjects such as astrology, U.S. history, and geology. We also strive to enhance children?s social maturity with classes on proper etiquette and conflict resolution.
Nine to twelve year olds enjoy fully abstract learning through the use of complex resources such as the periodic chart of the elements and research materials to foster cognitive thought, as well as personal organization.
Our middle school curriculum includes normal academic education in algebra, literature, history, and business. The middle school years are essential to prepare a child for an adult life full of academic and professional success.
