A rare & wonderful experience for Brkln 8/19/2008

The six of us wet there for our 25th HS reunion. We had a wonderful time. I'll start about the ice-cream, althoug we had it at the end. Smooth & creamy with what seemed like a natural flavor. It's heaven...and the selection is overwelming. Hot sandwiches were tasty, gourmet, modest on meat, thoug. You can taste that the pizza crust is something else with that brick-oven-baked flavor. Deserts are a heaven for your eyes with all different colors from fruit topped to chocolate, tiramisu, cheese cake...and then some... for your taste buds. They (surprisingly) have a full bar so we each tried a different drink. The live music provided by a well-seasoned singer was the reason we stayed there for so long. He sung such variety to touch almost everyone, while backing himself up by playing a keyboard that produces so many rich sounds. The guy did Sinatra, Elvis, Tom Jones, Engelbert etc, while also singing in Italian (Italian favorites), in Spanish and playing a few Russian tunes. His smooth entertaining did not overpower our chatting & laughing but made us feel very cozy. He occasionaly made friendly comments, introducing songs which made us feel that we were a part of a live performance and not just listening to some boring, background music from a house CD player. The youthful staff seem to really try to please us. Their smiles were friendly while running to cater to everyone. All in all, we highly recomend it. It's a rare, beautiful experience for Brooklyn and the rest... Pros: Ambience, tasty foods, live music Cons: parking more

I LOOOVE this place! 7/22/2008

My girlfriend and I literally eat at this restaurant at least twice a week. The food is excellent! The servers are always pritty nice The varity of food options makes me want to go there every time I want to eat out, from pizza to veal and chicken dishes not to mention the gelato and deserts it is the best in brooklyn, I always make sure to go there at least one of the nights that they have the live music, it is normally every Friday, Sat, and Sun. The outside cafe is amazing when you set there you see all the people driving by slow down to look at this place, I always recommend this place to ALL my friends they all thank me when they go there. This is my favorite restaurant! more

A taste of New York while living down south 3/25/2008

Living in Charlotte, NC makes me long for the cakes and cookies from Mona Lisa. I ordered cakes and cookies for Easter from Mona Lisa and was amazed at the packing and how every thing arrived in one piece. Every thing tasted like I was at the cafe in Brooklyn. It was so good I ordered another cake 2 days after easter. more

Unbelievable Wedding cake! more

The Most Beautiful Wedding Cakes 2/23/2008

My wedding was a few months ago and i went to Mona Lisa to get my cake. The cakes on display in the store and in the photographs were absolutely gorgeous. they were elegant and had just the right touch. The pastry chef himself was wonderful and guided me through the process of choosing a cake that was beautiful on the outside and delicious on the inside. He provided me with various pictures, each with different color schemes and decorations, form fresh roses to pearls and chocolate. My wedding cake was simply magical and everyone ranted and raved over it. My sister recently went back for her daughter's 1st birthday cake, a pink and purple decorated cake with a picture of my niece on it, it was simply enchanted. My cousin loved the cakes at our parties so much that she went back for her son's communion cake. They made the cake into a bible with the color schemes of gold and beige finished with the a sparkling touch. I have never seen such beautiful and elegant cakes! Pros: beautiful & delicous cakes, great service more

awesome pasteries! 2/23/2008

I go to Mona Lisa at least twice a weak just to buy cheese cones and canolis. I have never tasted such great cheese cones: a caramelized shell filled with a creamy cheesecake mixture. And the canolis are always fresh and appetizing. the place is spotless, i have never seen it dirty. the servers are always pleasant. The bread is also delicious. There are so many different kinds, even whole wheat. Pros: awsesome food more

Best cakes & desserts in brooklyn 2/23/2008

I recently went to Mona Lisa for my daughters birthday. We were a party of 15 and the service was excellent. We were seated within 2 minutes of our arrival. There was a great variety to choose form on the dinner menu: over 20 different kinds of paninis, and several pizzas as well. I ordered a grilled chicken panini which was out of this world. The chicken was cooked just right, and the toasted bread was fresh as well. The margarita pizza was also delicious and truly displayed real Italian cooking. All of my guests loved there food, ranting and raving the whole way home. We each got gelato for dessert, and it was the best i have ever tasted, which a perfect smooth and creamy texture. I would definitely recommend Mona Lisa if you want to have a delicious meal, lunch or dinner, or even a quick snack! Everything was perfect! Pros: food, service more

Great and friendly service, great food 2/20/2008

We just returned from Mona lisa and I had decided to write a review based on my experience, we ordered eggplant parm, salad, tomato with mozerella, two cokes, and a margarita pizza all the food was very delicious . Overall the experience was great, the service was great, the food was great, the time it took to get the meals was great, I would defenitely recommend another visit. . I tipped 25% to my satisfaction. After we had diner we stoped by the bakery and everything looked so good, the pastries, cookies, cakes, we couldn't resist taking cannoli, cheese cone, and cookies. Pros: food and service Cons: crowded more

great food, deserts, as well as service 2/20/2008

if you want to have a very good food as well as very good deserts and gelato you should go there, the only thing is they are very crowded, I been going there for more than three years since I moved to brooklyn and everytime I want to treat someone to a very good place I take them there. At first when I moved to brooklyn I was kind scared to go eat there because the place looks so elegant and I thought it is very expensive but when I tried it I found it not expensive at all. more

Part 2 2/17/2008

Again, she offered her apologies and did not even attempt to offer even a free glass of water as a matter of good will. If that happened in my business, I would go out of my way to diffuse the situation, by any means possible. The last thing I would want is an irate customer ( I have been paronizing Mona Lisa since 2001), one who will undoubtably cease from coming to my place of business, but more importanly, generate lots of negative publicity. It's obvious that the owners have no clue as to how to run a business, expecially in the customer service department. I would be surpised if the combination of regressing quality and deteriorated customer service can keep this place open for much longer that a year or two. As a result, I have to keep a close watch on my credit files, but I must confess that I would love to see an actual breach od security resulting from their negligence so I can drag them to court. Pros: Decor Cons: Bad Gelato, lousy service. more

Was great before new owners took over in late 2007 (Part 1). 2/17/2008

The Gelato has suffered the most under the new management. The flavor is diluted and the texture is no longer as good. The Pizza, my favorite, has ceased to exist as it was. It definetely looks like they're cutting corners trying to pay the bills, but it will not work, not in the long run. BUT MY BIGGEST CONCERN, is their lack of controls in the business management, like Credit Card processing. I would suggest anyone thinking of patronizing this place to pay in cash so you won't have to go thru what I went thru. I ordered (on their website) a $100 cookie tray to be delivered to a local BMW dealership. Law and behold they delivered more than the cookies, the delivery which was left at the recipient's desk also contained the full internet order form, which included my full Credi Card number, expiration date, security code, name, billing address and the order total. Needless to say, I was mortified when I received a call from the recipient teeling me what he had found on his desk, aside from the cookies. God only knows how many people came in contact with that sheet of paper, from Mona Lisa employees (all of them possibly) to the various employees of the Dealership. After I brought the matter to the owners attention, it was discounted as a simple mistake by (their admission) an inexperienced 17 year old driver. Her suggestion was for me to call Amex and close out my account and request a new card. I informed them that I have had my card, with the same account number number for 30 years and I have numerous automated transactions processed by Amex evry month and subsequently, closing my account was going to inconvenience me a great deal. Pros: Great decor Cons: Lousy Gelato, even worse customer service more

Best Sfogliartelle!! 9/24/2007

The Sfoglartelle is always fresh made every morning. Very crispy and light with just enough orange peel in the cheese. Other pastries are beautifully crafted with nice flavors and texture. Pros: Beautiful Pastry Shop! more

Great Pizza and Best Cakes 2/27/2007

i've been at monalisa a couple of times and i've really liked the service and the food. the thin crust pizzas are the best i've ever eaten in ny and the desserts are delicious as well. my favourite is the baccio ice cream and the cake they make with the same flavor. the waiter was cute, attentive and funny. the only negative thing was that it took awhile for people working there to aknowledge our presence and to sit us at a table. we waited for a few minutes at a sign that said: " Wait for the host to seat you", but no host was anywhere to be found, but that's fine: it didn't ruin our evening. the waiter and the food made up for the bumpy start. Pros: waiter and food Cons: no host/hostess more

Mona Lisa's Pies 10/19/2005

Mona Lisa has got the BEST pies! I remember buying a Peach Cobbler Pie. My friends and I finished it in one go! more

Great Brick-Oven Pizza 5/14/2004

If brick-oven pizza is your thing, then this is the place to go. Their pizza is crisp, a little bit cruncy, and a little bit burnt, just the way I like it. It's also a good place to unwind after dinner and have some coffee and cake. For those with a sweet tooth, they also have a variety of gelato flavors to choose from. Pros: Inexpensive, Al fresco dining, Prompt service more
