Don't judge a book by it's cover. 7/14/2008

The first time I walked into this place, I already had a problem with it... It's a trendy bar on a trendy street named after a location in a Kubrick film. Well, after getting over my own insecurities and not being intimidated by the always-present crowd of great-looking, shabby/chic-dressed people sipping infused vodka martinis and chilling out on cool, 60's ""pleather"" furniture to an endless soundtrack of well-spun soul and house cuts... Oh, and I haven't even mentioned the best part - the patio out back. This is where my co-workers and I end up after closing the restaurant. There is always a great vibe, and they have some of the coolest and cutest bartenders in NoPo. So yeah, in closing, I quickly got over how ""cool"" the place was, and just got into how cool it is. more

Great darn Happy Hour and Smoking Portch 2/14/2008

I had a great time the first time I was there. So much that I'm going back tonight. Pros: Nice Cocktail Selection, Great Smoking Portch, Clean Feeling Cons: Smelly Bathroom Covered in Graffiti more

favorite favorite 7/2/2007

I really like this place more than i expected I would. I live and work in the neighborhood, and usually avoid the newer, fancy-pants looking joints... but all the people who work there are really nice and the vibe just isn't what you might guess. They have turntables set up and all the bartenders listen to really good music. You never really know what you are gonna get, but it's always good. During the day it is really chill and not busy, so the bartenders always have a minute to talk. I've made a habit of stopping by here on my way home from work. You can get such good drinks for so little money, and the food is really good quality. I guess I'd sum it up by saying that this place might not be for everybody, but I've been needing a place like this since I moved here three years ago. more

ahhhh, at last 6/28/2007

I've been to every bar in this stinkin burg sixty times, and it seems that every one that has the slightest bit of style and quality has been either priced out of my reach, plays crappy pretensious music, or populated by nouveau riche car salesmen from beaverton...until now. Pros: Ambience, Infused drinks, Great DJs Cons: no table service more

Remarkably unpleasant! 4/30/2007

Wow! I've read the other reviews, and I wonder if we're talking about the same place here. When we went to the bar it was almost entirely empty, save for 3 or 4 people at the bar. The music, extremely bad AM Gold love ballads lacking even in any ironic value, was playing so loud the speakers were vibrating. My friend and I couldn't even hear each other speak. There were empty beer bottles and glasses on the tables, but the bartender obviously wasn't going to bother cleaning anything up, whether or not she had to. When I went to get our drinks, she ignored me for as long as possible, while she had a lazy conversation with somone at the bar - she tried to look as blase about everything as humanly possible. more

A little less vanilla 4/19/2007

This would be my favorite bar on Mississippi if it didn't smell like a vanilla Glade air freshener. Everything is generally good, the music a bit loud for its quality, the food a buck or two over-priced, the wine list is uninspiring, but the general feeling is good and I'd settle for the most of compromises just based on the people and the ambience in a place I can go to and have a chat with friend or two. The servers and clientele are decent and unintimidating, even friendly. But the smell makes me think this place could stand to be just a little less vanilla. more

Fun Atmosphere 3/8/2007

We popped into Moloko Plus after spending several hours just next door at Mississippi Station (server Rani is awesome!). The atmosphere took a 180 which was fun with a retro-modern-all white feel to it. The fellow customers were great, friendly all having a good time---sorry I can't say this about the bartender. She seemed aloof and unengaged----she made ok drinks, played some cool music. I'd say it's worth stopping in for a drink, but don't linger, there are more interesting places in the area. Pros: cool retro modern feel Cons: seating is limited, bartender needs a personality more

interesting. 2/19/2007

So..the bar itself is a bit forced..white, everything white...white bar, white walls, minimal furniture...one would hope that the service in a place like this would be in the least ""friendly""...no such luck. gal behind the bar this past friday evening seemed completely miserable. we all have nights..but it wasn't just me, several people in our group made the same comment after coming back from the bar. more

Best Bar on Mississippi 1/30/2007

best fresh squeezed greyhound in portland, made by the best bartenders. i love the craftsmanship put into this place, from the white concrete bar to the cool back deck. no smoking inside! and they had no problem making a fantastic grilled cheese sandwich for me (even though it was really late). both times i've been there, there's been really cool music (once it was a dj, once it was just the bartenders playing records). my favorite new place in north/northeast portland. more
