Divine 6/2/2006

I can't believe I lived in Boston for four years before I ate a cannoli from Mike's pastries. If you've never tasted one, it sounds weird; there's the whole sweet cheese filling thing and the whole not-so-sweet shell thing... Just trust me on this one, it's perfect. Furthermore, Mike's has gelato, biscotti, cake, marzipan, homemade peanut butter cups and those little green and pink leaf cookies that they used to give us in Hebrew school. What's not to love? Well, the crowd isn't fun, especially on a busy night. Give them credit for this, though - if you sit at a table, a server will get to you, take your order and maneuver it back through a throng of sugar-cravers in pretty decent time. Or, if crowds aren't your thing, Mike's delivers through the mail for a somewhat hefty premium. If at all possible, my advice is to walk there, though - what better way to justify those extra calories? more

Mike's Pastry 5/25/2006

This is such a famous place!!! For good reason - the pastries are awesome. we got two cannolis for $5.50, which is a little expensive if you ask me. One was filled with chocolate creme and the shell was dipped in chocolate and had chocolate chips sprinkled on each end. it was delicious!!!! this placed is always packed!!! more

The Go To Place for Pastries 4/15/2006

This place has the absolute best cannolis in town! There's a nice variety, and the price can't be beat. The service is fast, churning through impossibly long lines in no time. If you're in the North End for dinner, then this is a necessary stop for dessert. If you're not in the North End, then you need to go here anyway. more

Pass me a cannoli 3/30/2006

Of all the foods that remind me of Boston, a cannoli from Mike’s has to be the tastiest. Sweetened ricotta cheese nestled inside a pastry shell, dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with powdered sugar…how can you not enjoy it? We used to buy them on warm summer evenings and take them down the street to the park and sit around the fountain and eat them. If you’re not in the area but are craving a cannoli, Mike’s offers them through their web site, although the $45 shipping charge will break the wallet. more

Over-hyped 3/18/2006

The lines at Mike's are so long that you would think the whole town of Boston is waiting there and you also get the impression that it is the best place in the world to get a pastry. Now I will admit that I have not had many pastries from here but what I have had were sub-par. The cannoli's were runny and had a lemon flavor which was just wrong. more

Great Baked Goods and Desserts! 3/18/2006

You can see that everybody love Mike's by the line going out the door on the weekends (and sometimes the weekdays). Everything here tastes great, so you can't go wrong with you get. I normally get an assortment of miniature cookies. My only wish is that they would have already-boxed cookie assortments, so I wouldn't have to ask for a million different types (not fun, especially when its very busy). more

Best Pastries in the Boston Area 3/10/2006

This place serves some of the best pastries in Boston. They have all types and flavors and while I have not had the chance to taste all of them, the ones I have tasted, the vast majority, have been delicious. This place has the BEST pastries in Boston and is definetley recommended by me more

the lines are long, but well worth the wait! 2/8/2006

Best pastries i've had in the Northeast (aside from Dunkin Donuts of course) :) The atmosphere is deli-like, people come in droves to Mike's Pastries on Hanover. If you choose to eat "in house" the'll come wait on you - otherwise get in line and take a LONG look around the cases, there are thousands of cookies, cakes, pastries to pick from and the canolli's are phenomenal! A must see if you're on the north side of Boston! more

hmm...hmm...good !! 1/13/2006

They are located in italian town. The shop is always crowded. Always stuffed with people. They have varieties of pastry. They are really delicious. Sometimes, you have to wait into the line to get one of those pastry. They even close the door and lock it if they are having too many people in the store. Once they are moving out, the worker open it again. more

Best Pastry's Ever! 9/19/2005

This is one of the most famous places for pastry's in boston and for good reason. They have a delicious selection of sweet treats from all variety of canolis to delicious cheesecake. Go here for the food and the experience of Boston. Just make sure you're prepared to handle the mountains of people that will certainly be swarming the store at all times of the week. more

awesome man! 9/13/2005

This place really works out the pastries. It is a legend here in Boston that you gotta go there. Check this place here. more

Worth the wait! 8/30/2005

There's a reason Mike's in the North End is so renowned! Yes, it can get crowded and crazy, but the pastries and desserts are wonderful and is the perfect end to a great meal in the North End. Every time I am there for dinner, I never miss Mike's! My favorites are the peanut butter cups and the awesome cannollis! more

Wonderful Italian Pasteries 8/29/2005

What can I say other than FABULOUS!!! There is nothing like fresh Italian pastries. The canoli's are to die for! more

Good Pastry Despite the Hype 8/27/2005

Mike's Pastry is renowned as the place for tourists to go to grab a cannoli when they are in the North End. Although the pastries are good, sometimes it does not seem worth the hassle to elbow your way to the counter for your pastry. There is also limited seated so be prepared to take your item to go or eat it standing up. There are other pastry shops in the North End that are just as good without the hassle. more

Very expensive pastry 8/20/2005

They have a wide selection of pastries and they are quite unique. Looking at these pastries will make you want to try them. However, the price is very expensive and there is nothing special about the taste of the pastries. I am sure that you can find more delicious pastries at an affordable price elsewhere. Buying pastries from them is just not worthed. Not recommended. more

World Famous for a Reason 8/17/2005

Located on Hanover St in the heart of Boston's North End, Mike's Pastry has been a dessert haven for many years. Mike's sweets and treats will have you dangling by a string, at the edge of your seat, savoring every morsel. Varieties of desserts include cookies, brownies, cakes, lobster tails, and so many countless others. The lobster tail, a croissant-like pastry in the shape of- you guessed it- a lobster tail and filled with cream comes in a number of varieties as well. On weekends, this joint is open as late as 11pm, perfect for a trip after dinner at a North End restaurant. more

Two words. German Chocolate. Cake. 8/16/2005

In my humble opinion, there isn't a better bakery or dessert place in the North End. Or in Boston for that matter. Kim likes the Ricotta Canoli's. They take her back to her youth. I like the German Chocolate Cake. Little know fact, the Italians make the best German Chocolate Cake. There'll be a big crowd of people milling about, who don't really get the system. Be aggressive and maneuver your way up to the front. Don't bother trying to eat there. Getting a seat takes forever and you'll have so many people crowded around your table, it's not worth it. more

Pastries 8/13/2005

This place is always packed. A huge tourist spot and a local one as well. The lines are always out the door and sometimes chaotic. The tiramisu is fantastic as are the rest of the baked goods. Seating is tight and you have to share space with the folks that are waiting in line. Scene can be chaotic at time, but worth the people watching. Every walk of life come in from the wide-eyed tourists to the business attired. more

Mike's vs. Modern - Blind test! 8/5/2005

Last week, my wife and I were eating sushi with my wife's coworker, when we happened to mention that we like to buy stuff from Mike's Pastry. She was appaled. She couldn't understand how we could eat those terrible things Mike's makes. Apparently, she's a Modern Pastry girl (in case you didn't know, Mike's vs. Modern is somewhat similar to Red Sox vs. Yankees, though these two shops are across the street from each other). After a brief argument, we promised to go to Modern and compare. One week later, some cannolis and tiramisu were purchased at both shops. Then, a panel of four experts were fed small pieces in no particular order. The results were: Cannolis: Mike's 2 - Modern 1 (one expert did not participate) Tiramisu: Mike's 3 - Modern 1. Disclaimers: FWIW. YMMV. Too much sweet stuff will make you fat. Oh, and if you want to have good coffee - do go next door to Caffe Vittoria as the other reviewer said. more
