Bad service, small menu, overpriced 5/25/2008

Really bad service for weekend lunch. Cashier did not read order back, causing me to have to stand in line a second time. Go anywhere else. Cons: Bad service more

Not a Good Deal, and Not Good Mexican Food 10/31/2007

Yeah, unfortunately I agree with the last reviewer. I'd been told I HAD to try Mijita and was excited about it. I went with my husband for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We shared the chilaquiles and the huevos con chorizo. Neither was very good or spicy or authentic. I also didn't like having to sit on those long benches, but I would have been ok with it if the food had been good. Also their guacamole was completely bland, and for the price they charge it should have been much better. I had to ask the cookds for some chiles, onion, and cilantro to fix it up a bit. On the plus side, they have a good selection of Mexican beers. If you're in the mood for Mexican food, walk a couple of blocks to Orale Taqueria... seriously good and authentic Mexican! Pros: Location, Beer, Aguas Frescas Cons: Overpriced, Ambience more

Nothing like Mexican in the Mission 7/24/2007

If the food were good, I wouldn't care that it was overpriced and that I had to sit with a ton of strangers at dirty tables. But it doesn't even come close to the worst Mexican food in the Mission. The spices are all wrong. The options are so limited. Avoid this place. Cons: Bad food, high prices, communal tables more

A Great Lunch! 3/25/2007

My husband and I were visiting SF and stopped by the Ferry Building to check out a couple of the shops. We weren't really planning to eat lunch there, but the smells from Mijita drew us in. Yes, the menu is a little pricey, but the quality of the food was incredible. We had the jicama, grapefruit, and avocado salad to start, which was a fantastic medley of flavors and colors -- I want to re-create this dish at home! My husband had the fish taco, and the attention to quality was obvious; the tortilla was one of the best I have ever had and the fish was cooked perfectly. I had the quesadilla Mijita, which was more of an empanada than a quesadilla, but it tasted so good I didn't care. The filling was delicious, the crust was crunchy but not greasy, and the salsa and guacamole were fabulous! My mouth still waters when I think of this meal. YUM. Highly recommended. more

Great albondigas soup! 10/9/2006

This is a fun place if you want some organic mexican food, albeit pricier than usual. The chips are nice and oily/salty and the guacamole is fresh. I especially like the soups, espcially the albondigas on a chilly SF day. Pros: It is in the ferry building! Cons: Seating isn't that comfortable indoors. more

Terrific Mexican food, more expensive than most 9/24/2006

I salute Traci des Jardins on several fronts; launching this restaurant because of her heritage, and cooking with organic ingredients. In fact, what des Jardins has done is elevated the taqueria in a way that makes it more acceptable to the elite, who might otherwise miss out on this terrific food. Pros: Yummy, organic Mexican food Cons: Overpriced, not a wide-ranging menu more

You pay for the location 5/2/2006

Can't beat the location, food is good, but it's way overpriced. Overpriced because they don't serve plates of food that fill you up. PEOPLE GET HUNGRY, FEED THEM! Pros: Chips n' Salsa, Location Cons: Price, Portion size more

Quite expensive for what you get 10/20/2005

So this restaurant is very limited in its menu. Mainly just tacos and a quesadilla and a mini burrito. I was expecting a lot more. Also I feel that it is highly overpriced, but then again it is SF. Each taco costs $4.00 and it will take at least 3 to fill up any guy with an appetite. The agua fresca is pretty good. Cons: pricey more

yes, i know i know, you can get a cheaper taco. but the rent at the ferry building is a LOT more than practically anywhere else. i love the fact i can have a fish taco down town. i think it's incredible. i adore sitting outside watching people cram every delicious morsel down their throats. this is an incredible place. traci des jardins has done it yet again. the reviewers who are bitching really should try and make a gorgeous mahi mahi taco for $4.00. mijita, thank you. Pros: for a novel date, best fish taco ever, incredible location more

Not Good Enough 11/17/2004

I have to agree with most of the other reviewers. Tacos are too small and the flavors are oddly bland. Soup was hearty (although not piping hot), but its meatballs still lacked punch. Ingredient quality is high, kitchen fast enough, but I didn't taste anything that would make we want to go back for more. I would gladly pay these prices for unusually good Mexican food, but this food was merely unusual. Pros: Location, Inventiveness Cons: , Flavors don't sing more

Over-Priced Mexican Food 11/4/2004

I recently dined at Mijita with a friend, and between the two of us we spent over $27.00 for a couple of aqua frescas, 2 fish tacos and a side dish. The fish tacos which they are supposedly famous for had very little flavor. We kept spooning the hot sauces on the table and that didn't improve the flavor. Don't waste your money on the Aqua Frescas either - they are watered down! Pros: Views more

Not Worth The Money 10/18/2004

I knew Mijita would cost more than a taco truck, but I expected more bang for my buck. The horchata was the dullest, most watered down drink I have ever had. The taco de carnitas was nothing special and very small. The grilled corn was nice, but it was a special. I spent over $10 on lunch and left hungry and disappointed. There's a fabulous taco truck on Folsom and Spear. I suggest getting some food there and eating it by the water. It'll be more satisfying in the end. Pros: Nice View more

A Wonderful Medley of Mexican Cuisine 10/16/2004

Wary after reading some of the reviews about Mijita I found myself at the Ferry Plaza ready to try it out anyway. The guacamole was thick and fresh, the tortilla chips prepared the same way as those I've had them in rural Mexico, and the agua fresca I ordered sweet and delicious. The Tacos that I ate were warm, however, I noted that cold salsa was added on top. I enoyed the combination but would recommend salsa on the side if you want a piping hot meal. The staff was extremely friendly and the kitchen manager even came over to assist me in selecting my items when she saw me staring undecided at the menu. Great prices too. Pros: Great prices, Nice presentation, Fast service more

Closed at 7pm? 9/22/2004

Even worse than $4.50 for a fish taco is that they close at 7pm! A manager of another Ferry Plaza merchant told me Traci's plans are only to cater to the commute crowd... but she's obviously not been around at 7pm, when most of the other FP restaurants are open and building up a solid evening business. more

Not so Fabulous anymore! 9/20/2004

Update - I used to love this place and have gone back several times only to be disappointed again and again. Food has been served cold the last 5 or 6 times I've been there. I used to love the tacos but the last several times I've eaten there they have been served cold - a hot filling but cold corn tortilla. Made the tacos taste bland and inedible. Took my family there and their food was cold as well - my mom even had to take a bowl of beans back because they were cold. Maybe too much early prep and not enough attention to what is being served. Also, dirty dishes everywhere and bus boys who stop at your table while you are eating with huge bins of dirty dishes that they leave right in plain view. Pretty gross when you're trying to eat. I've wondered who is minding the store since quality and cleanliness has clearly gone down hill. To bad, used to love this place. more

Go to The Mission 9/14/2004

It is great to get good mexican food at the Ferry Building, so if you want it you'd better go on Saturday when the tamale stand is set up out back amongst the other prepared food vendors @ the farmer's market, because you can't get it @ Mijita. It is nice to sit outside along the water and people watch, but in my experience that was the only positive. My carnitas taco was under sized and under seasoned. The queso fundido which was visually appealling, served in a earthenware dish, was served cold, causing the presumably once melted cheese to eat like chorizo topped rubber. Really just nothing special, especially for the price Pros: outdoor seating, pleasant staff Cons: , price, no beer more

Over Priced 9/10/2004

The ambience is very nice - choice location with outdoor patio at Ferry Bldg. But the $4 tiny taco I ordered was a major disappointment. The small spoonful of barely flavored carne asada was drowning in a cold, gelatinous green salsa. Fresh onions, cilantro, and homemade tortilla were the highlights. Drinks were also astronomically high in price. Pros: Nice ambiance, Great location more
