I've been renting bikes from here for years. The team is smart, helpful and very knowledgable. And they are off the charts on customer service.

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/9/2013

I have a 29er MTB. When I got a flat one day, I decided to upgrade my tires to Schwalbe Big Apples (in lieu of just fixing the flat). $120 and an hour later, i was on my way home. 2 days later I'm looking at my bike and realize that something's not quite right. I then realized that my rear disc brake rotor had been replaced. I didn't do it. The only people who touched my bike in over a year had been me and this shop. (Not only was i sure i hadn't done the swap, i don't possess the mechanical skill or tools to torque and true a disc rotor ... but the bike seemed to be stopping ok). Not sure what to do, I waited until I discovered the next flat (same rear tire, with the new tube; five days later). Upon taking out the tube to see what was up, a piece of hard plastic fell out of the inside of the tire (it was what had flattened the tire). That's when i decided it was time to try and get at least an explanation for the disc rotor. I took the bike back to the store, where i was, in no uncertain terms, told that I was 'lucky that i got a new rotor for free.' No apology, no 'i'll look into it'' ... nothing. I was made to feel like i was the one in the wrong. Did I mention that I only went into the store to buy a set of new tires ... NOTHING whatsoever to do with the brakes. Yet i was lucky that I didn't get charged for a rotor that i never asked for (much less gave anyone permission to replace). If you want your bike to have its parts swapped out for lesser components while it's being serviced and then made to feel like a complete idiot for daring to question them ... then this place is for you! The attitude of the people who work in this store for years has been abysmal. I will never again so much as get air in my tires from this place. more

great rental experience 10/6/2009

I needed a bike rental for the New York MS ride. I was frustrated about not being able to reserve a hybrid bicycle in advance as I was traveling from out of state for the ride. Manager Don took a reservation so that would be sure to have a bike on arrival. On arrival he had the bikes set aside and ready to go. Changed out some pedals I brought with me and was out of there in less than 5 minutes. Great service, Great attitude, Great manager. Our 2nd year of renting from them for the MS ride and we'll back next year! Pros: great manager, fast friendly service more

Best bike store in the city! 6/2/2006

Years ago my father and I did a serious search for a fancy new bike and, after months of research, ended up buying from Midtown Bicycle. I was just back by today for help packing a bike to ship and they could not have been more helpful, efficient, or easy to work with. At least two of the people working this morning raced professionally, so they know a lot of technical/practicle stuff from experience, but they are also respectful of the most naive questions and requests (me- who can't fit my own bike it my own case, and another woman with a fancy bike who can't change a flat...). Plus, seemed everyone was bilingual, everyone likes each other, the place is organized and the prices seem great. What else could you ask for? Pros: wonderful people, efficient, inexpensive more

Amazing Service 5/13/2006

I highly recommend going to Metro Bicycles (Midtown Bicycles) for all your needs. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, especially Leo, the manager. He outfitted me with a new bike, selling me what I NEEDED, not some supped-up bike that I did not need. He then spent over two hours making sure I was properly fitted on the bike. Great staff, great store! more

Great Selection and Service 7/23/2005

After a few unsuccessful attempts to buy the right bike at a couple of ""trendier"" places, it turned out Manhattan Bycicles had a few bikes in my price range/size for me to try built and ready. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They have a great selection of bikes, and if it's not built and on the floor, they can put one together for you in about hour. In fact, it turned out they had the one bike I wanted that was on backorder everywhere else I went. I would definitely recommend this shop for anyone looking to buy a bike in Manhattan. more
