I love going to Michael's genuine just to get their kimchi salad with a nice glass of chilled wine. It is always fresh and savory. The service was impeccable on this day. more

After hearing all of the rave reviews and seeing the dessert menu featured on The Food Network I was extremely excited to experience everything MIchael's Genuine had to offer. I went on a regular Tuesday night and was met by a very rude hostess. I have been in the food industry for years working in both the front and back of the house. Needless to say I pay attention to EVERY aspect of service that is provided. First thing you should know about dining here is that this is not an inexpensive menu, so you need to be prepared to spend. After careful review of the menu, we decided to order the chili chicken wings (4 wings), the fried pig ear (1 ear), and the whole roasted chicken (which takes 1 full hour as it is made to order). After placing the order to a waiter that took 20 mins to greet us, our appetizers arrived. The pig ear was OK, nothing spectcular at all. Already becoming disappointed, 30 mins into the wait for our chicken, and the EXTREMELY tiny appetizers long devoured the server returns to tell us that they ran out of chickens and he did not realize it when he placed the order......... At this point my husband and I were starved and not happy AT ALL. We looked back at the menu and decided to order the Pork Loin with a side of mash potatoes (sides are separate). Trying to remain optimistic, the Pork Loin arrives extremely overcooked and extremely DRY!!! Thank God they put a chimichurri sauce on the plate because it was almost inedible. Despite everything, my favortie part of the meal is dessert and the real reason why I wanted to try this restaurant. We ordered the coffee with sour dough and sea salt dessert and I have to say it was divine. The manager did try and make up for the chicken by giving us a complimentary Orange Creamsicle dessert and the mini donuts which was very nice considering.DESSERT is by far the only thing good at this restaurant and may be the only reason why I would ever go back to this OVERPRICED place. more

What a great vibe, went for lunch, spectacular service from the bartender, killer jazz collection playing and an amazing grilled swordfish cooked to perfection and tasty greens dish with a red pepper olive oil sauce which was designed to compliment the spice of the fish! Wonderful!\r \r I also witnessed the most amazing customer service here, a waitress spilled coffee on a customers sweater:, the bartender took club soda and cleaned it, the waitress after a thousand mea culpa's presented a free dry cleaning voucher and then they got free dessert (party of 3)!\r Amazing!\r 5 out of 5 stars more

We enjoyed every bite the entire night. The food is GENUINE and we can't wait to go back! more

Great location we found by accident, driving around the design district. After a short wait we were seated outside, and a very attentive waiter got us through the menu and the specials. The Skirt Steak was very well prepared and cooked. Her sandwich was very testy as well. A foodie will be happy with all menu variations.\r Unfortunately over the amazing dessert, people behind us started smoking. Why ?\r All in all it's a $100,- lunch w 2 glasses of wine and tip. Parking is contentious in the area.\r Great experience, but Manhattan kinda prices. Really ?? \r But the place is full so they are doing something right. more

Not so impressed this time around. The few apps we had were "ok" at best. Waiter sold them as stellar. Burratta was good. Chorizo, pate, average. Rib and pork shoulder, on the dry side with lots of condiments for flavor. Hopefully next time will b better... more

I order for our app crispy pig ears and chicken liver on bread. the crispy pig ears were light and crunchy. very delicious. the kitchen liver was very good, but it is very rich so be careful. too much of that can make you feel sick.\r I ordered the large pizza cooked in a wood burning oven. real italian pizza, not domino's pizza. it was delicious. i also ordered a whole 2 lb snapper that was cooked in the same wood burning oven. delicious! it was a tad too salty in certain areas but i used the lemon to cut that. \r it was cooked perfectly with a slight burnt char on the outside. i also got asparagus as a side. it wasn't the best asparagus i have ever had, a tad over cooked for me.\r Parking is a hassle and expensive, much like everywhere in Miami. Make sure you get a reservation because they fill up quickly!\r Would def recommend! more

Overpriced. Overrated. 3/24/2012

Let me just start with the fact that the food is not bad. However, good food does not make a great restaurant. I can make good food at home, but I come out for service/food. Indifferent waitstaff, pretentious front of the house and open tables as they announce that there are no seats are insulting. I reported our experience to American Express Concierge since they made the reservation for us. It seems that Michael's serves large family style groups better than a couple of two. If there are two of you then you will be seated next to another couple. We were seated next to a couple that listened intently to our conversation and talked about us in Spanish. So much for intimacy. The hostess, Margo, appeared to be managing the reservation. She is just the restaurant pit bull. She gave us one story about seating being unavailable so go to the bar and the next couple was told to wait for seating. Really? The waiter slammed down dessert menus for us both and walked away. Presentation poor. Service subpar. Attitude indifferent. We won't be back. more

This is the nicest way that I can explain this restaurant. Anytime the hostess treats you like she doesn't want you there...LEAVE!, the people suck! The hostess, Margo, absolutely fake, phony and full of it. We arrived and she told us that there were no seats for the evening and we could sit at the bar, but there was a family of 5 waiting for seating. When 3 men in a party are seated and the mother and daughter stand around the bar chairs...LEAVE, the people suck. \r So I called American Express Concierge, they immediately found a reservation available within 30 minutes. They called the restaurant and confirmed our reservation. Margo finally seated the rude family and we had wine and appetizers at the bar. Shoulda stayed at the bar because the bartender was the only person who acted like he was at work making money for a service. Why? Because the people sucked. \r At the time for our reservation, I went to the front and informed Margo that we were there for our reservation. She smiled and blew me off, politely. 15 minutes later, my boyfriend informed her that she needed to get a seat immediately and she recounted her instructions about the bar. He informed her that our reservation was confirmed so find a seat. In less than 60 seconds flat, we were seated at a rickety table, oh distressed, this is the Design District, so raggedy is hip. We sat less than arm's length from a nosey couple that obviously liked our conversation more than theirs. \r Our waiter was a mess, but the food was good. The cobia fish was light and the short ribs were tender. Time for dessert, our waiter returns, slams down the dessert menu in front of us both without introduction or presentation. Is it obvious that he too sucked? We immediately asked fr the check, but wait, he had to bring the menu to the nosey couple and explain the dessert offering to them. So his service was intentionally bad to us because he clearly knew the best way to present a menu where people would want to stay. So while this is the new hot spot with great food, the servers and hostess feel entitled to size up their customers where they are bad for biz. I'm afraid that it won't last because the people simply...well you already know. more

Michael's is hands down our favorite restaurant in Miami. The bar rivals any found in this city, and the staff is surprisingly friendly, considering this city isn't known for it's hospitality. We eat there atleast once a week! more

It is the perfect place to eat outside the box. And sometimes I just come to Michael's for dessert. It is by far my favorite restaurant to eat. Try the Pot du Creme doughnuts! To die for! more

My boyfriend has been raving about MGFD for quite some time, which built up my expectations. He had made reservations in advance, but when we arrived, the hostess could not find our reservations, but she was still able to seat us quickly. The place was packed and the scene was live, which I thought was a good thing. Now, I understand that the square footage in the place isn't much, still I don't understand the "communal" type lay out they have, where you're seated almost on the other patron's lap. That made me feel really uncomfortable. Definitely, not a suitable place for a First Date!! The table was so small and wobbly that the waiter kept having to come back to remove the dishes as we finished our meals. The water tasted like tap, but it didn't bother me. The bread was good. My pork shoulder was amazing! & the garlic mashed potatoes were a dream. The dessert my boyfriend chose was also delicious. In fact, it was so good, that we ordered a second serving. Our waiter was really friendly and made some great suggestions. Overall, my experience was really pleasant, but i think the prices are exaggerated for such small meal portions. more

this was our 2nd time here, first for lunch and last night dinner, both of them were very good, dinner was a big hit with our table , waiter was very good, [ robin f ] there was 4 of us and everyone had a app ,entree, dessert, and our plates were emtpy, highlites= chili chicken wings, greek farro salad,\r octopus salad, lamb leg, port shoulder, pesto tomato, this is a well run restaurant, everyone liked it, very impressed, thank you more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 2/7/2012

price is not $ 30, we paid $ 75 each. the small bottle of white wine was $ 36 (plus tax &tip). the "genuine water" is from tab (either with or without gas - and they do not sell other!) and tastes chlorine: ruining what remained from the taste of outside burnt vegetables and burnt squid. ceviche was fresh and tasty, so was the duck. service is pleasant. the chef was absent! more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 1/23/2012

Over-rated. Our server was pretentious and the food didn't live up to the price. The table next to us chain smoked 2 feet from a pregnant women. Real classy. more

My husband took me to MGFD for my birthday, since I've been wanting to go for quite a while. We currently participate in a community-supported agriculture program and like the farm-to-table concept. \r The atmosphere was pleasant - we sat outside. For an appetizer, we ordered the burrata, which was extremely fresh and creamy, though we wished we got a little more (or more tomatoes, or other vegetables) for the price. My husband had the short ribs, which were fork tender with a savory romesco sauce. I ordered the leg of lamb, which was cooked perfectly with salsa verde and a strong-flavored olive oil. Both dishes were good, but we agreed that the lamb was our favorite.\r While the food is great and made with high-quality ingredients, some may find the menu pricey. Note that the "medium" size dishes are the size of an appetizer at typical restaurants. The entrees do not come with sides, either, so add about $6 or more to the price of each entree if you plan to dine there. MGFD will be a go-to for special occasions. Just make your reservations early - especially if you want a table for 6-7pm on a weekend. In that case, reserve at least a week ahead of time. more

Went to Michael's last night and had another excellent experience. Although we had a reservation, we ended up choosing the bar instead of a table. Happy we did because we had a great time, Albert the bartender was attentive and knowledgable, and the food was superb. This place is popular and there is good reason for it being busy even on a Monday night. I have seen some reviews that criticize the front desk, and I can see what they mean, not always the most friendly. On one trip here where an elderly relative was with us we were seated in the near empty room in the back, I felt on purpose. Nonetheless we will always come back. more
