Excellent food. Worth the trip. 9/1/2008

I've been dining here for 35 years and have had only one "questionable" experience. It was probably 25 years ago & we had a big party. (more than 10 people) The tip was automatically added to the bill (15%) without anyone informing us this would happen. We would have tipped alot more but figured since we were forced into what is normally an elective decision we left without leaving a tip at all. Just what was added to the bill. The food is FABULOUS! Always has been. The service is great. It's a little noisy at times but the experience is worth it. We've had to wait for a table at times but that just tells me the food there is worth it. If it wasn't any good, people would not keep going back! Be sure to try the Margaritas. The Golden Margarita is OUTSTANDING & well worth the price. Always had friendly service & ample parking. Pros: Lots of parking. Great food. Good service. Cons: Sometimes a little noisy. Restrooms need up-dating. more

great Mexican Food 5/16/2008

I love this food. During the summer I go there quite often. I always have left overs and the drinks are great. The staff are so nice and lets you know what good deals are going on. I would recommend this place to others who are looking for good Mexican food. more

I have always loved Mexican Village since I was a child... Until recently were told by the Hostess Lucella that my 3 year old son was being too disruptive(if you call dropping a spoon accidentally... disruptive). She then suggested that we take our son and leave. I have never been so publicly embarrassed. So i left with out paying and only had eaten 1/4 of my meal. I WILL NEVER GO BACK Cons: THEY HATE KIDS more

My Favorite Mexican Restaurant 3/11/2008

This place is awesome! They have cozy corners and lovely atmosphere, a full bar and food to rave about. Service is always fast and friendly. Try the chunky beef Mexican sandwich, a specialty only available at Mexican Village or the shredded beef fried flour tacos, delicious! Or the Nachos with fried flour chips instead of the standard corn chips for a change. Anything your mouth desires is made to perfection at this well established restaurant. I used to work downtown and we ordered carry out once a week, now I go whenever I get the chance. It's hard to visit Detroit and not stop at Mexican Village. more

Worst experience ever - I felt discriminated against 2/22/2008

I have frequented Mexican Village since I was a child but tonight, at 5pm, we were told by the Hostess Lucella that our 18 month old daughter got too much food on the floor - I explained that we always tip at least 50% and give the bus boy $20 on each visit - she said she didn't care. I further explained that I also have had parties for over 100 people at their restaurant - to no avail. She then suggested that we take our child and leave - So we did. I felt discriminated against and will never return and would recommend all to abandon this restaurant for others - I was very disappointed Pros: history Cons: dangerous area more

very fresh 11/18/2007

Best Mexican EVER! 5/6/2007

I can't even begin to describe how much I love this place. Every time my sister comes in from town from college we go, birthdays we go, weekends when we just want some food we go. I have only been there once later on the weekend were we had to wait to be seated. Salsa is amazing and you seriously could drink it. My favorite menu item is the Chicken Chimi and if you try it, ask to have cheese melted on top, it makes it even better. You can get some salsa and chips to take home, however if you don't eat the chips warm they just don't taste as good so I would just get some chips from the store. On birthdays they'll sing and give you a free fried ice-cream. There's also one in Utica that's the same restaurant but you have to go the Detroit one once. more

Best Mexican in Mexicantown! 10/7/2006

Love the food here. My husband and I both agree that it beats all of the other restaurants in Mexicantown. We both like that the food isn't heavy and covered in oil, like so many of the other restaurants in the area. The combination (made all chicken) is great, and with a few ala carte items is more than enough to share. It's a bit off the beaten path, but well worth it. Lighted parking with attendant (free for customers). Great prices as well. Pros: lighted parking, budget conscious Cons: none more

AWESOME 6/1/2006

I grew up in Michigan and have beeng oing to the Mexican Village since I was a kid 40 years ago. I have since moved to Florida and still can't wait to get back to Detroit to see the Tigers play and go to the Mexican Village. Love their chicken tacos and guidsado (?) de res. I highly recommend it! Pros: value, great food, friendly staff Cons: area more

Pros: great food, good prices, awesome service Cons: small bathrooms more

Authentic 5/23/2005

Ive tried several restaurants in the area and there is no comparison to quality of taste and value for your money. Everyone that i have introduced to Mexican Village says its the best! The food is delicious and the alcoholic beverages are great as well as the desert, taco chips and dip and well you get the point. Pros: secure parking, Inexpensive, Kid friendly more

BEST Mexican place in the area 4/23/2005

I adore this restaurant. It has the absolute best Mexican cuisine the city, possibly the state has to offer. It's a shame the place is located in a terrible section of town, because I'm guessing a lot of people are scared off. Do yourself a favor. If you ever go to Detroit, GO HERE!\r \r Inside the restaurant you're greeted with adobe walls and a beautiful fountain. The lighting is perfect, and the atmosphere is both wonderful for families and couples alike. Every table gets a batch of freshly made tortilla chips and homemade salsa, both the best I've ever tasted. Possible dinners include familiar Mexican fair, with Tacos, Burritos and Nachos taking center stage. There's plenty of other things too, but I'm a taco-addict, so I don't stray from the norm. Flaming cheese is to die for, and something I always make sure to get. The prices are neither cheap nor expensive, but you most certainly get what you pay for, if not more. HIGHLY reccommended! PROS: Absolute best mexican food in town, n more

Great Food 12/22/2004

Great food, fast service, nice people, kid friendly, with some good kids meals choices. Don't just settle for the mild salsa, get the HOT! The area is not the best, but still feels safe! Pros: fast service, short wait, secure parking more
