BEST VET EVER! Could not imagine taking my animals anywhere else. Always a wonderful and timely experience. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 1/8/2014

Disgraceful and expensive. Nasty little people behind the counter. Vets who do not reply to calls after soaking you. What a rip off. Go to some other city for help. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/12/2012

You really can't ask for a better service for extremely sick pets. We've taken all of our cats here as they were aging to have them diagnosed. They are more expensive than a normal vet, but we always left knowing how to care for our animals and felt that they were getting the right treatment. Dr. Daley was always very calm with our pets and wonderful in her explanations of what was going on with them. more

Vet told me to pay 10K or let my dog starve! 1/8/2012

I went to metro animal clinic in Sept 2011 after being referred by my vet. My dog ate some string and had to have two surgeries, and after the second they found that she had an esophageal stricture (which basically means she can't swallow). I went to the hospital hopeful that this would be an easy fix. I got to metro, and the front desk was friendly they sent me back to a room quickly. When the vet came in she listen to what was going on with my dog for a couple a minutes and then started writing for an uncomfortable amount of time. When she finished she gave me a break down of the cost of my dogs surgery it was going to be 10 grand! I asked if there was a second option; because I simply couldn’t afford that, and she said LET HER STARVE TO DEATH. I have never been to a vet in my life that was so cold and heartless. So I left paid my $100 consult fee to a vet who didn’t even examine my dog! I went home crushed unsure what to do and started calling around. I talked to several vets all of them sympathetic to my situation, but none of them did this particular procedure that my dog needed. After doing research I tried giving my dog a liquid diet of Rebound (doggie pedilite), which gave her enough strength to live. It took a month or so and I slowly made her food thicker and thicker to now only 4 months later my dog is alive and healthy! She might never eat hard dog food, but she can eat baby food. I’m so glad that I took her home that day and didn’t listen to that awful woman. I would recommend anyone who is thinking about using this veterinarian clinic to go somewhere else. Call around and research before you do an unnecessary operation. more

If You Love Your Pet Avoid Metropolitan Veterinary 12/28/2011

Because it is the coldest most uncaring place I have ever been in. On Christmas Eve our cat needed an ultrasound so we had to go there. We let him stay the night so for an ultrasound, cbc and the stay it was 500.00. They wanted to test, test, test though.\r \r My cat Slugger died on Christmas night. They felt he didn't need fluid well they were wrong.\r \r They are in a high rent district and I guarantee you they care more about pulling in the buck than they will about your pet. \r \r We had to put our cat down at Jefferson Animal Hospital on Christmas night and they were very compassionate, warm and understanding as is Davis Animal Clinic in Okolona.\r \r For your pet's safety avoid MVS. Specialists is what you get and they need to test, test test to pay for them. more

Not good for working people 5/24/2010

I called to try and schedule an appointment for my puppy, who has a malformed leg, but the only appointments they offer are in the mornings. I'm a full-time working mother, who already had major surgery myself this year and have no more sick days. They don't offer weekend or evening appointments for working folks. I've called my primary vet for another referral. It was very sad knowing I couldn't get my puppy an appointment. Pros: none yet Cons: schedule not flexible more

Unique procedures at a higher than normal price 3/11/2010

In Louisville, KY, this is a modern facility offering expensive procedures. Saying that understand that you will drop at least a grand for your procedure. With this comes the pleasure of rude office staff with people skills of toads. One girl actually seems to take pleasure in ignoring people without due cause, then being commandingly rude.On the plus side, she will not be examining your pet! In the back, the techs are professional and kind. The doctors, especially Dr. Campbell, are thorough, kind and considerate. As with any vet, prior and post consultations will be received as part of the procedure. Pros: Clean, Dr. Scott Campbell, Vet Techs Cons: Price a bit high, Horribly Rude Front Office more

What a GREAT service! 7/28/2009

It is unfortunate you can rate only 5 stars... I would give Metro Vet a 10! Right when you walk through the doors you feel at home. The receptionists greeted us as if we were family and they immediately took notice to Sam, our lab. Dr. Graehler was our surgeon and he is amazing! He was very friendly and knowledgeable. He explained everything and we felt very comfortable going into surgery. The surgery itself went great and Sam has made a full recovery. I would definitely recommend Metro Vet. The prices are fair, the service is great, and results couldn't have been better. Pros: The most friendly and skilled staff I have come across Cons: There is nothing negative to say about these guys more

Great Experience 6/24/2009

My chi/pug mix was diagnosed with a luxated patella, grade 3, in May. My regular vet recommended surgery and sent us to MVS. All the surgeons there are board-certified veterinary surgeons, so that made me feel very comfortable with taking him there. From the first phone call I made, to his post-surgery checkup, I've been very satisfied. The support staff was very friendly and helpful, the facility was very impressive, and the surgeon (Dr. Neat) was very informative, explaining every part of the procedure and describing all the treatment options, as well as having a good ""bed side manner"". If my dog ever needs more surgery (knock on wood), I will definitely take him back. Pros: Friendly staff; great facility; great care more

MVS because my dogs can walk 4/29/2009

I have taken not one but two dogs to MVS. Both times every question I had was explained in full detail by Dr. Applewhite. He and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I never felt stupid for asking questions and that is a big plus beacuse i want to know everything where my boys are concerned. Between my two fur kids I spent $4,500 and I do not regret it one bit. One of my babies was a rescued great dane whos broken leg was so damaged 5 other local vets wouldn't even go near it!!! Thanks to MVS and Dr. Applewhite my great dane can not only stand and walk, but run and play and enjoy his life! If you truely love your pet money is no option. I'm still paying the loan the restored my dogs leg and I wouldn't have it any other way. So to you who wine about your money don't have pets. And to you who understand how wonerful these vets really are thank you for giveing your pets truely great homes. Pros: took great care of 2 of my fur kids Cons: cost quite a bit but worth evey cent more

Dr. Graehler is the best! 12/19/2008

First of all, Dr. Randy Graehler is an amazing surgeon, and he has operated on three of my Pomeranians. I would recommend him to anyone! I wasn't as impressed with Dr. Daley, but I'm not sure if she was just having a bad day when she saw me or what. I had to wait in the exam room a long time before she came in and was told that the staff had not informed her of my arrival. Then, she looked at the file while I was there as if it was the first time she had looked at it. So, apparently, there was no preparation at all. Then, she just concurred with my regular vet that my dog needed exploratory surgery. When I saw Dr. Graehler, he actually thought that it was a liver infection, but we decided to go on and do the surgery, and it turned out that he was correct. I have always been very impressed with my dealings with Dr. Graehler, and have nothing negative to say in the least! Pros: Great surgeon Cons: Price is a little steep, but understandable since he is a specialist more

Best place in KY for sick pets. 6/2/2008

Best place to take your sick loved one. I drove my dad and our family dog Puddin' (my bubby) to Met Vet to have emergency surgery by Dr. Ben Neat over the Memorial Day Weekend. When we arrived I called Dr. Neat and told him that we had a arrived. He and his girlfriend Kelly was there in a matter of minutes. Our family dog went lame in the backend. Our local vet said he may have a ruptured disk and would need surgery. When we got tp the Clinic or Hospital for pets he welcomed us like we were family. We went to the front desk to give him some information. My dad set Puddin on the floor and his front feet started sliding out from under him. Kelly brought a rubber back rug for him to set on. She showed love and compassion for a pet she didn't even know. That there says alot for her. Anyway, Dr. Neat suggested doing a Dynascan to pinpoint the disk. He found the disk and also told us Bubby (Puddin') had cancer that appeared to me to be growing around his spinal cord. He said he could do the surgery and do a biopsy but the chances of Bubby ever walking again would be 25%. The only other option would be to put him to sleep. I have never seen my dad cry that hard before. I was also crying and Dr. Neat and Kelly cried right along with us. That really ment alot. They felt our pain and repeatedly told us how very sorry they were. They never rushed us. They told us to take all the time we needed with puddin. A couple of days later we received a sympathy card from them. That doesn't sound like a place that is only after your money. Met Vet is a place of caring, compassionate, loving and honest Vets that want nothing more than to give your pet the best care and most comfortable stay they possibly can so they can get back to a normal live with their owners. Now Puddin' is in Heaven with Jesus and his brothers Jasper and Rascal. To those of you who complain about money, get medical insurance for your pet.\r Thank You Dr. Neat and Kelly. GOD BLESS YOU! Pros: Very Clean, very knowledgable vets Cons: 2 hours away more

Most caring, loving, professional pet care in the world 5/24/2008

My beloved family member, Chelsea, was cared for by Dr. Daley and her staff for over 8 years. The care she received was always thorough, appropriate, and most importantly filled with love and compassion. The folks at Met Vet not only cared for my beloved dog, Chelsea, but they also showed care and compassion to me as well, as we worked together to keep Chelsea healthy, happy, and thriving. \r \r After 8 years of care, Chelsea lost her last battle at the age of 14 years and 4 months. My friends at Met Vet helped my Chelsea pass from my loving arms to the loving arms of St. Francis and her heavenly home. I was blessed to have them with me during Chelsea's final days and ultimately her passing. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone with a pet in need. It just doesn't get any better. We are blessed to have this facility in Louisville, KY. Pros: Excellent care, loving vets and staff, wonderful facility Cons: Absolutely NONE!!!! more

Best Animal Care in the Midwest 2/14/2008

After seeing the negative reviews posted, I was compelled to submit a review of my own. Metropolitan Vet Specialist in Louisville are what I consider the best animal specialists in the midwest. I live in southwestern part of Indiana and traveled to Louisvilie with my cocker spaniel for the various health issues that he faced over his 16+ years. Onyx had herniated disc problems, three different bouts of cancer, and heart and kidney issues. Needless to say, we probably have dealt with each doctor at some point. However, Dr. Campbell was Onyx's doctor. I have never seen a doctor go above and beyond for their patients like Dr. Campbell, and his entire staff. Onxy received the best possible care. Each time we made our appoinments, we were met with the friendliest reception. The techs did their best to make Onyx feel comfortable while going through some horrible trials. More importantly, as a pet owner, the doctors and staff were good to me........explained what was going on and making my little guy comfortable.\r \r We do not have the level of care that Onyx needed where I live. Louisville is lucky to have such a wonderful team of caring professionals. Pros: Caring professionals more

Best. Vet. Ever. 1/24/2008

I normally don't write reviews of places but felt I needed to here. My dog needed knee surgery and we were referred to these guys. They did an amazing job. He recovered completely and his knee is rock solid. Probably even better than 'normal' dogs. The people there took wonderful care of our pup and cared for him like his own. The doctor explained everything very clearly and we never felt rushed. The bill was expensive, but they give you an itemized bill. When you look at it in those terms and see what a 1st class facility you are using, you quickly realize that the price is well worth it.\r \r Unfortunately, my pup needs another surgery on the other knee (genetics, whadda gonna do). I'm about to call them again as I wouldn't dream of taking him anywhere else. I hope you never have to take your pet for surgery and you don't ever have to deal with this. If you do, consider going here. We are driving from nearly 2 hours away because they are simply the best. Pros: Exceptional Staff, Never Feel Rushed, Doctors Explain Things Clearly, 24 Hour Observation in ICU. Most peole don't get medical treament this exceptional! Cons: It's pricey. But isn't your pet worth that? more

Exceptional Service 12/31/2007

I can't say enough great things about Metropolitan Vet Specialists. I have had several of my animals treated here, and have always been treated with the best service. Not only towards me, but towards my pet's. Dr. Graehler and Dr. Applewhite have both been top notch. I would recommend anyone that I know there. Pros: Very caring and compassionate staff from the front desk to the surgical staff. more

The BEST of the Best 12/28/2007

I have had to use Metropolitan Vet. Services for three of my animals; two of whom had surgery. One of my dogs had knee surgery with Dr. Groehler (sp?) who treated me with the greatest respect and my dog with the most tender of care and patience. My dog weighs 180 pounds and can be quite intimidating; this didn't phase the Dr. who treated him as gently as a puppy. The surgery was extremely successful and my dog recovered well. Throughout the whole process the Dr. made frequent contact and kept us informed each step of the way. The staff's follow-up was very personable and efficient. Recently my dachshund had major back surgery performed by Dr. Applewhite. He went above and beyond in easing our fears and taking care of my little guy. Dr. Applewhite made us aware of all the options and, once we decided on surgery, explained exactly what we should expect throughout his surgery and the recovery period. Since the surgery, I have had questions for the Dr. and have always been able to speak with him right away, which is rare in today's world. I cannot say enough good things about Metropolitan Vet. Services, the doctors or their staff. Hopefully my animals will not require their services in the future, but if they do, I will rest easy knowing they are in the best, most competent hands available. Pros: A very caring, efficient team of Doctors and Staff with the highest of skills. Cons: None more

Avoid at all cost 11/19/2007

The following review expresses my opinions about Metropolitan Veterinary Specialists and my recent experience with this business. \r In my opinion, this is basically a surgery mill that charges huge fees for services rendered, including expensive and unnecessary tests/procedures. While the surgery itself may be competent, there is little or no communication after surgery and that information that is given prior to surgery is, in retrospect, quite unrealistically optimistic. Post operative care is minimal to non-existant. Once this business has your money (and lots of it), it is clear tha they are through with you and your pet. I took my pet to this place on the recommendation of my local vet and minimized the written reviews from this site, thinking they were just a couple of unreasonable/disgruntled individuals complaining about relatively minor issues. I was very wrong. Maybe all of these vet specialist places are the pretty much same, and are out for as much money as they can get with little or no real caring for the pets that they are ""treating."" One thing for sure is that they have pet owners who love their pets over the barrel if the pet needs certain procedures, since there are not many of these places around in certain geographical areas. I simply do not have sufficient data to to make such a determination. What I will say is that if I am ever forced into a situation where my local vets do not have the nessecary skills and/or equipment to help my pet, I will certainly be investigating other facilities-- such as those in Indianapolis-- before taking my pet for treatment. Actually, I think that I shall do so BEFORE my pet may need treatment so that I can go there immediately if necessary. In any event, if you love your pet, please BEWARE of this place and the things that they may tell you more

Don't Try To Change Your Appointment Whatever You Do!!!! 9/19/2007

Took our dog there to have surgery because they are one of the only ones in KY to do this surgery. Had a follow up appointment scheduled and needed to change it due to work schedule being changed. Called to change appointment and was talked to really rudely by receptionist. Told that changing appointment wasn't possible. Finally got appointment changed and went in for appoinment and needed to schedule final appointment for 8 week follow up. Was given a date that was during the days that we work (we're off certain days during the week) and was talked to rudely yet again by same receptionist and given another date and told that was the only one, take it or leave it. Also payed over $2000. for pets surgery only to find out that that doesn't include the xrays that will be needed before our pet is released or the sedation that she may need to complete the xrays. You would think that follow up xrays would be included in such an expensive surgery. You would also think they would hire courteous front desk help since they are the first people the customers see and talk too. Seems that once they get your money, they're done with you. Don't care if you come back for followups or not or if they can assist you in making appointments. Thank goodness Dr. Applewhite was such a wonderful doctor and good with our dog or we would've really been even more upset. Pros: Dr. Applewhite is an excellent DVM and seems to care about his patients Cons: His staff are very rude. The person at the front desk anyway. Xrays should be included in total bill not added in. more

Avoid at all costs!!! 1/28/2007

Drive to a specialist in Ohio or Indiana if you value your pet's life! They are incompetent, arrogant, egotistical and only care about generating $$$; and can get away with it because they are the only specialists in Louisville. If something goes terribly amiss with your pet's treatment, the doctors will deny responsibility and you will be left to speak with the snarky, unprofessional staff and blaming yourself for your choice. If you care enough about your pet to seek the treatment of a specialist, deal with the inconvenience and drive out of town! more
