Editorial review from Citysearch 3/17/2013

William M. doesn't recommend\r \r I went to the emergency room of this hospital on 3/8/2013. From emergency I went to the third floor. I was diagnosed with pancreatitus and spent four days in the hospital being discharged on 3/12/2013. I had an IV in right arm and lab work on the left arm. Upon discharge my arms looked like a battle zone with redness and hives. After discharge I started getting Hives all over my body. I believe the nurses used some form of latex tape to tape down the IVs.\r \r While in triage I told the nurse that I was allergic to sulfa, levaquin, and latex. This evidently did not transfer to the third floor of the hospital.\r \r On 3/17/2012 I telephoned the hospital to complain of my treatment. The nurse could not find the file on me, and found it only after I gave her the MRN number. The nurse said the hospital does not use latex. I've had severe reactions to latex in the past and know when I have a reaction to this. She said it could have been something at home. I told her nothing was different at home, and I do not keep latex in my house. She apologized for the treatment, but failed to concede any fault on the hospital.\r \r The hospital staff was incompetent if they failed to put on my records that I was allergic to latex. The nurse said she added this information on 3/17/2013 when I telephoned. Secondly, I only tried to tell the nurse what I knew. Her questioning of the facts were unconscionable for someone who had no facts.\r \r Acute allergic reactions can result in death. It would be responsible action to determine in my case what caused the breakdown. I was attempting to tell them of a problem I had to prevent this re-occurrence in the future. Obviously, the staff at this hospital is not amenable to any criticism, and desires no help.\r \r I suppose I will need to go to the Medical Review Board to keep them from killing anyone in the future. Meanwhile, based on my experience at this hospital, I rate their service highly incompetent. more

Would highly recommend 1/28/2012

I would highly recommend this hospital. It is the only place I would take my family. And my family and myself have been patients. I have even have unexpected surgery here. I had nothing but professional service and attention. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. It is an older hosptal but it is undergoing an update at last count. The people made or break it for me. I have been to state of the art facilities and have had unpleasant experiences. This hospital treats you as family. The nurses are top notched. Not sure what bad experiences other have had but I only have praise. more

This is the worst ER in Memphis! 9/17/2011

Was there today for strep throat that ive had for 5 days . The nurse took me to a little room in the back of the hospital and there were 3 nurses at the nurses station eating lunch talking about the little cute guy at the hot wings place. Then the doctor came in with an attitude never introduced herself hell, i still dont know her name! She said ""what are you here for?"" so i told her she never ran any test just looked in my mouth with her lite and said well its swollen i said yea i know that much ive been on antibotics for 3 days and it is still very painfull i can verilly swallow she said well keep taking the antibotics and im gonna give you some steriods and walked out of the room. Then i can hear her and the nurses talking about me saying that i was just in there trying to get pain meds and that she wasent gonna perscribe me any! then the nurse came in with a perscription for thrush mouth! SOMETHING THAT I DIDNT NEED! and she said sign this paper and then you can go! and that was it nothing more nothing less...wtf i thought that the doctors were supposed to find out what was wrong with you not treat everyone like they are junkies and homeless people! just so everyone knows the name on the discharge paper is Jacquelyn Stinnes! And dont let me forget to mention how nice she was to the handsome black man that was in the room next to me that got all kind of test ordered and i believe that he had a cut on his hand! pos people karma is a mfer! what goes around comes around! more

never use their ER 9/16/2011

I went in with my stomach hurting and started having an anxiety attack and couldnt talk. I was treated like a drug seeking addict. They had my clothes cut off and the doors open for everyone to see. they left bruises and pulled my skin off while taking off the little pads they check your heart with. they would not let my family come back and while cathing me they rubbed me so hard i bled for about 3 days. they talked around me saying that at least i was cleaner than the last. they finally gave me some phengran without being diluted and it burned my vein to the point it was red and u could see the vein. all in all i w am trying to sue them they r horrible. the floors on the hospital r not near as bad as the er . more

You will DIE! 8/8/2011

This place will let you die if you go here! On 8/9/2011 I went to Methodist North Hostpital on covington pike about bad chest pains. My heart felt like it was going to pop out of my chest and I kelpt coughing over and over again. Well they got some x-rays, took my vitals, got me to a room, where I waited and waited and waited until I couldn't wait anymore. I was in pain and still in pain as I type this for almost 5 long hours before I left. The physician never came in to see me and nobody checked on me not even once.Soon as I felt a little better I got the HELL out of there. The is by far the worst hospital I've ever been to in my entire life. I wouldn't take my dog there if he was on his last leg. This place need to be shut down ASAP . Never Again more

NEVER GO TO METHODIST NORTH. 12/14/2010

I would not recommend this hospital to even an enemy. I went to Methodist Hospital (Covington Pike location) emergency room on 9/20/10. My head was hurting so badly that it felt as if someone was banging my head with a hammer. I was nauseous, dizzy, confused, had tingling arms, numb legs, memory loss, delayed thoughts, a few recent blackouts, and more. I reported all of this to Dr. Justin Deaton and his emergency room team. An MRI was done. I'm currently looking at the MRI which reads, ""Low lying cerebellar tonsils which have been described with Chiari malformations. Clinical correlation recommended"". However, Dr. Justin Deaton looked me in my eye and told me that the MRI did not find anything and requested a psychiatric evaluation from a local psychiatric hospital. He explained to me that since there was no explanation for my pain, I must have been delusional. After the assessor from the psych hospital stated that there was no psych problem evident, he drugged me up and sent me home. When I followed up with a neurologist, I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation (just as the MRI findings said) that was so progressed I was not expected to live long without neurodecompression surgery. I was given emergency neurosurgery and thank God I'm alive. more

Filthy Hospital 4/12/2008

I would NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone I care about! My mother was just released from there. What should have been a 2 to 3 day stay turned into a 3 1/2 week ICU nightmare. She went in with complications from her COPD, and left with the Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) ""Superbug"" in her lungs. There is no question....she contracted it from being intibated there, and from being on one of their ventilators. Methodist North Hospital is dirty and neglected...to say the very least. There is literally an inch of thick, green mold growing inside the windows of some patient rooms. The bathrooms are disgusting. The ""cleaning"" staff never once sprayed or wiped anything down the whole time we were there...much less, used any BLEACH! My mother even pointed out food in the floor that had been there since before she was transferred into that room. The woman just took her ""Swiffer"" and ran it over the pile one time. It is a joke. I'm only speaking of the cleaning crew right now, but they were all lazy....with terrible attitudes. If we asked them to do anything, they all acted like it wasn't there job. Now, the nurses that were actually taking care of my mother were usually very nice. They were good to her, and sweet when you asked them any questions. But, that isn't enough to make up for a potentially fatal, drug-resistant staph infection! This facility is on the decline at a rapid pace. If you have a choice, I suggest you choose anywhere else!! Pros: The nurses are very nice, physicians seem knowledgeable, and the location is convenient. Cons: It's dirty, and has a lot of cases where patients are contracting staph from being treated there. more
