Love the Training, hate the showers/bathroom 1/26/2012

Great gym, horrible bathrooms/Shower. I have trained in most of the boxing gyms in NY, and yes I am a female. I real liked Mendez and the trainers. I used to go in the mornings and really enjoyed the workouts and was learning and progressing. HOWEVER... as I trained in the mornings I needed to shower before work. The showers are so tiny and there is no reason on earth I need to stare at the same gum ball/hairball stuck on the bathroom wall every day. NO reason that there should be hair in the shower drains first things in the morning! In the end, I just couldn't take the showers there and left. Like I said,I have never been to regular gyms, only boxing gyms. So I am used to grimy. But when I am paying good $$ I expect the showers and bathroom to be clean. Theres no excuse!! Mendez-- if you work on your bathrooms I am coming back!! I did enjoy the gym, just wish you guys would put some effort into making the showers and bathroom a better place. more

Best Boxing Club in NYC!!! 2/24/2009

Awesome!! I would recommend it to anyone! If you want to get into the best shape of your life and have a blast doing it, Mendez is the best place in the city to learn the sweet science. This gym is clean and well run. The trainers are very experienced and amongst the best in the region. There is no hard selling or initiation fees. I have lost the weight, quite smoking and gained physical and mental strength in my 15 months at this establishment. Pros: Experience, Price, Staff more

Salvador Sanchez would be proud... 2/14/2009

This place is great. You enter the building, take the elevator, and on the 5th floor the elevator door opens up to Mendez Boxing. Whether you just want to get in shape, are looking to get good enough to spar and/or fight, or have already been boxing for years, the trainers are friendly, funny, and certainly know boxing. You can go in, work hard, and get out, or you can sit down after your work out and talk to some of the regulars there who sit at the table talking or sipping coffee, from current and ex-boxers to just everyday people with interesting conversation. \r Definitely worth checking this place out, and there is a free first lesson to see if you like it. Pros: Staff, knowledge, atmosphere Cons: Hard to find more

I love Mendez makes me feel like Rocky, but still like I'm getting a workout! Aaaaaadriane!! 1/27/2009

Now this place is awesome. Totally unassuming from the outside, you take the elevator up to the 5th floor...elevator opens, and you immediately feel like Rocky. From the folks bobbing and weaving in front of punching bags, to the fellas in the ring swinging at eachother, this is the place to get a great workout, relieve some stress, and to feel great. The staff is super friendly and it's easiestly one of the cleanest boxing studios in NYC. Go there now. They have a free boxing lesson for all beginners deal. Why not? if you dont, i'll fight you. :) Pros: Clean, energetic, awesome staff. Cons: Hidden, hard to find. more
