Great old style layout, with very mature trees. Fair course, with accuracy rewarded. Fairways are generally large, but there are plenty of places to lose a ball. Water is only ...

Worst

The park is a nice place to run and bring your dog... just make sure it is on a leash. They could improve on the restroom situation in a big way... more than one real restroom wo...

Look to the Left 3/31/2010

As you drive around Memorial Park's West Loop, you will notice many joggers with different sized dogs. If you have ever run at this park, you will notice that your feet and lungs are covered with red clay. If you have a white, furry dog...be prepared for him/her to be peach after a run. Pros: Open areas away from joggers Cons: Exiting the park takes some time more

the people in the club house are total butt heads!!!!!!!!!!! 12/18/2009

they are so mean the course is awesome but the people in the club house aare not very nice Pros: good course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cons: the people in the club house are total butt heads more

Memorial Park 4/13/2008

Memorial Park offers plenty of walking space for those of us who LOVE to powerwalk. Memorial Park is a beautiful park and very clean. Friendly folks who observe and obey the code of ethics. A lovely park for those of us who enjoy staying physically fit. However, the pollution in H town is an ongoing problem, and in the park too. So, you're breathing in that stuff while exercising. Parking isn't a problem (early morning ha-ha). Pros: 2.88 miles of walking/jogging Cons: Bathroom facilities more

Great park 9/17/2007

This park is great, if you like to bike, run, play sports then this is your park. There are lots of things you can do here. The restrooms are not very clean but if you are going to the outdoors you should also not be expecting Ritz Carlton type restrooms. The bike trails are very fun and have all types even for people that are just starting out. The only thing that I would like is that the park would implement park rangers or HPD officers on bikes. Many times you will see the soccer crowd leave beer cans all over or people just acting stupid. You know there always is the few that act stupid. Other than that this is a great park for all the family including the dog. Pros: bike trail, running trail, picnic area Cons: no park rangers or HPD officers patrolling the inside of the park so people litter too much more

Beautiful, in-close, historic course, updated and ideal for today's golf. 2/3/2007

Great old style layout, with very mature trees. Fair course, with accuracy rewarded. Fairways are generally large, but there are plenty of places to lose a ball. Water is only an important issue on a couple of holes. Total distance ranges from 7,305 to 5,459, offering a good chance for every level of golfer. Pros: Beautiful Course. Great Location. Full Service Muni Course. Cons: Parking, Difficult to get tee times. more

I would not recommend no more than just a run or possible bike ride here. 11/30/2006

The park is a good place to run being that the weather is pleasant and allows for it. Cycling can be sometimes difficult with traffic. Overall it is great for those who do not want to buy a gym membership and choose to stay active. The restrooms? Do your best to go before you come. The gas station restroom is a million times cleaner and you have a feel that you will be mugged here before there. Parking is not too difficult even during busy times. Someone is always coming and going. If your purpose is to run and be healthy, forget its flaws and go get your run on. It does have a Beck's Prime on the premises. And no burger can top 'em. Fuddruckers comes close, but does not have the full smoked flavor. Pros: you can get out here and get a good pace going minimal stride breaks Cons: The restrooms. I do not want Rover jumping on me. Keep Him On A Leash! more

A Texas Legend 4/6/2006

I've played all the Houston area daily fee courses, and this is one of my favorites. It's long from the tips, but the landing areas are wide and fair on most holes. Very traditional layout, unlike some of the ""target golf"" courses around, and is a great walking course. You will also use every club in your bag. The marshalls will keep the play moving, which is a plus for me. Home of the Houston Open in the 50's-60's, and was restored to original layout in 1994. It does get more play than any other public course in the area, but is still well kept. Parking is an issue so get there early. Pros: Layout, Challenge, History Cons: Parking, Range Mats, Parking more

Facilities are not the best but... 8/29/2003

The park is a nice place to run and bring your dog... just make sure it is on a leash. They could improve on the restroom situation in a big way... more than one real restroom would be nice. Pros: Trees, Shade more

Better take the bus 5/30/2003

Parking is horrible!!!! This couse is neatly located in the city's largest and most populated park, and you share parking with picnickers, runners, tennis players, and dog owners. Which greatly out number the golfers. Only thing that can be said is ""Good for a City Course at a somewhat reasonable price."" Nothing to compare with the privately owned daily fee courses in the Houston Area. Greatwood or Memorial at the same price? Not even a contest, Greatwood hands down. But you do have to make the dirve to Sugar Land. Pros: Location, Price, Layout Cons: parking, crowded, lack of up keep more

PARK OF NO PARK 1/27/2003

Can't find a parking space near the golf facility at lunch time. Beck's Prime restaurant takes up all spaces between 11:30 and 1:00. Any tee times in that timeframe is hazardous. You drive the lot for as many as 30 minutes. This is a public facility. Why can a private enterprise inconvenience people who want to play golf? Pros: golf staff, location, layout Cons: parking, refreshment carts more

Over-worked 1/21/2003

Memorial's design is exceptional and challenging, but the course shows the excessive number of rounds played each year. At the least, every golfer should play the course at least once just because of the history. The staff need customer service training, especially the Marshalls. It almost seems as if they resent people playing on their course. Pros: Historical Course, Location, Challenge Cons: Parking, Staff more

Could use better facilities 8/28/2002

Not a good place to go if you require restroom facilities. There are few and I have seen times when some of the old ones were locked up. If you don't like portacans and have children, you might think twice about going here. It's a great park, but I sure would like to see more facilities and reopen the old ones that were locked up. I guess the abundance of vandalism penalizes those of us who require those facilities. Not knocking the park, just wish the facilities were better. Pros: Beautiful pine trees, Good location, Variety of activities Cons: Few or no restrooms, Old restrooms locked, Sometimes crowded more

A walk in the Park 8/21/2002

THIS is where I take clients. It is convienent, beautiful, well maintained. It is also just a plain fun course. more

HO CHI MIN!!! 6/17/2002

IF you are a mountain biker, or a runner bored of running with the SHEEP at the regular 3-mile circuit, head for the bike trail, it rocks! It feels like the LOST PINES at BASTROP instead of Memorial PARK! There are several bike trails, I don't know the name of this, but it's the green one. It starts where the picnic entrance is, right on Memorial. It takes me 13 minutes on the bike and 20 minutes running. Pros: great aerobic ex more

Editorial
  • The View
Just west of downtown and east of Loop 610 lie Memorial Park's more than 1,400 acres of bike and jogging trails, volleyball courts, picnic areas, tennis courts, five softball fields, two soccer and rugby fields and a golf course.

    The Appeal
The park's jogging trails are popular with both athletes and the not-so-athletic. Cyclists can get in some leisurely touring or hard-driving mountain biking on the scenic bike trails. For those who want the exercise but not the outdoor climate, a pool and fitness center is available. You'll also find the Houston Arboretum Nature Center in the park. Dedicated to the memory of the U.S. soldiers who died in World War I, the park sits on what was once Camp Logan.
