I don't feel that this place deserves one more thought from me, so I am just going to say DON'T GO THERE. Cons: Greasy, tasteless food. Horrid service. Overpriced

Simply amazing 5/8/2009

This is not your typical mexican place. The sauces and drinks are made from scratch with fresh ingredients. And instead of copying every other mexican restaurant, they've got their own recipes. The adobo sauce on the tilapia was amazing, and the sangria was the best I've ever had. Pros: Fresh everything, wonderful service more

Best Mexican food in Portland! 3/4/2009

This restaurant is amazing. Unique recipes, artful presentation and a great atmosphere all combine to make for a great dining experience. With low prices and great deals, this is a perfect place to experience NW Portland on a budget. Pros: Great menu, authentic Mecixan, excellent deals Cons: not open Monday more

Taste of Gringo 8/21/2008

Last night was my second and last visit to Taste of Mexico. The mole' was the absolute wost I've had in my life. It was watery and bland, totally tasteless and the chicken was tough and dry. The salmon was a tiny portion for the price and the shrimp was bland with a tasteless sauce. You be better off going to any taqueria rather than to pay fine dining prices for Gringo Mex. Cons: no air conditioning, lukewarm water, overpriced, tasteless, strange hard objects in food more

WOW! I don't miss living in South Texas any longer! 2/21/2008

Coming from Southern Texas it has been hard to find a TRUE Mexican food venue. Tonight I found what I have been missing. Taste of Mexico is TRUE Mexican food. It is NOT Tex-Mex and it is NOT a chain restaurant. It is the real deal. I had the tortilla soup which was absolutely the best! The Chile Relleno was equally amazing. No canned peppers used here and my peppers were not covered in sauce, just true flavor. The night was ended with the Kaulua/Rum flan - holy cow, talk about a treat. I will return again and already have my mind made up of what will be next...... more

Better Chili Relleno's than my mom makes! 11/16/2007

I have eaten here several times and the service is always awesome, and the prices are great! The Carne Asada and the Chili Relleno's are the best I have ever had. I hae taken a friend from Mexico with me to eat here, and he raves the Chili Relleno was better than his mom makes!!!! I would HIGHLY Recomend eating here often! Pros: Great Food, Great Prices, Friendly Staff. more

A Taste of Mexico? I Don't think so. 9/10/2007

This place was so bad my friends and I thought we must be on Candid Camera. It was very strange. Luckily the food wasn't expensive, so we we didn't let the terrible food and bizarre service get to us. It looks like a cool enough space and the menu looked great. However, the descriptions on the menu fell far short of the actual execution of the meals. I had the bistek. It was a tough, paper thin peice of flank steak stuffed with chile's and what appeared to be cheeze wiz, then smothered in brown gravy. Huh? A friends salmon was smothered in what tasted like chicken gravy. Seriously? Another friends stuffed pork chop was smothered in a deep red tomato sauce that tasted straight from the can. Yum! Our server was very friendly and we really wanted to like him. However, after being asked three times if we were ""soaking up the sun"" while in Portland, his welcome wore thin. Soaking up the sun? OK Sheryl Crow, back off, let us eat our cafateria grub in piece. This place is in a great location, on a really fun street. We should have figured something was wrong when this was the only place that wasn't completely packed on a Friday night. Now we know. Pros: Great location Cons: Everything Else more

Fabulous Mexican Food in NW Portland 7/7/2007

Excellent food! Reasonable prices. I would highly recommend this place. The owner creates his own recipes and other are from his family's recipes. Try the tortilla soup--to die for...it has avocado chunks in it! The flautas, fish tacos and chimichanga are all great too. we'll definitely go back over and over again. Pros: Food is awesome as are the prices! Great service Cons: No A/C inside but fans help cool it. They have outdoor seating too more
