The Melrose is comfortable, affordable, friendly and palatable. I've enjoyed the experience for years... and years... and years. It feeds the urban experience and is a great spo...

I'm not a big fan of Melrose. When you first walk in the door, the diner seems stale and a little dirty. The food is a step below the average diner fare. I don't mind little hole-...

Perfect Location 5/27/2006

Oh I love this little diner. In the summertime, you can grab a table outside and enjoy your meal while also enjoying the weather and people watching. The location of this cafe is perfect, right on Broadway in the hustle and bustle. The food here is realy good and they give you these really big portions. I love the salads here. They give you a whole big bowl full of salad and it is filled with fresh veggies and an amazing house dressing. The service here is so friendly too and the food is really reasonably priced for all that you are getting - good food, good service, and a great setting. more

Open 24 hours 4/16/2006

The selling point for this diner is that it is open 24 hours. Located on Broadway, near Belmont, it is not far from where you might be in the wee hours. It serves all the diner staples- burgers, eggs, taco salad, whatever... It's good food, at a fine price, just what you are looking for at that hour!! more

Nice and Local 3/6/2006

True that Melrose doesn't have the best food or service, but man is the seating great. The luster about this diner is the location and how it is 24 hours. You can eat just about everything there expect the burgers. Really. This is a great place to go with a group of people at three in the morning without getting hassled. Worth at least trying, and don't forget to attempt the carrot soup. I realize that it sounds disgusting, but try it anyways. more

Subpar Diner 3/2/2006

I'm not a big fan of Melrose. When you first walk in the door, the diner seems stale and a little dirty. The food is a step below the average diner fare. I don't mind little hole-in-the-wall establishments, but Melrose put me off. The ledges near the window looked cluttered and dirty. The food wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good. There are so many choices on the Broadway strip - I would walk by Melrose and try another place. more

Hit the spot food 1/14/2006

Melrose Diner is the place to go for an outstanding breakfast. The omelette's are fluffy and perfect. You can order one of their many existing omelette's on the menu or you can create your own. The hash browns that come with the omelette's are a great compliment to your meal. In addition, I found out one day, when I was suffering from a cold that the home made soups at the Melrose Diner are terrific. They are flavorful and served hot. All of the staff at Melrose greet you with a smile and are attentive. Whether you are their Sunday morning with your newspaper or Saturday evening after a long night of consuming, the food will hit the spot. more

Fantabulous Experience! 9/25/2005

Melrose Restaurant, located on the corner of Broadway and Melrose in the heart of Chicago's Boystown, is a great place to go after a night of club hopping and fun. Open 24 hours, the menu has a great variety of food, enough to satisfy anyone's taste buds. Serving portions are more than enough to fill one person, in certain cases, it's better to share certain plates. The best salad, by far, is their Blackened Chicken Salad, or the Taco Salad with beef. The service is great. The diversity among the workers makes it easy for anyone to feel comfortable and not secluded. There is patio seating for those nice summer nights, but it is limited. The prices are a bit high, but for the amount of food and great service, it is worth every penny. more

after those late nights bar hoping it ends here 9/9/2005

The food here is good for the time I am here. That is usually in the wee hours of the morning and you will many of the likes here. The portions are big for the money. If you want to come someplace to have a hot meal at the wee hours of the morning...this is the place. more
