Great, low-cost way to relax 9/9/2006

My friend told me about the Medical Training College of Baton Rouge and convinced me to sign up with her to get massages. It is a massage therapy training college and on Fridays and every other Saturday, the students open clinics in which they practice on the public as part of their training. You, as a member of the public, pay $20 for a 30-50 minute massage, depending on your student's level of training. The clinics fill up fast and the schedules come out on specific dates, so you need to call well in advance to find out when the schedule will come out for the date you want. On that day, you need to call early to schedule your appointment. I know it sounds complicated, but it is worth it. The alternative is to go to a day spa and pay $45-$75 for the same service. The clinic is run in a very professional manner. The student who will be massaging you will have you fill out a form with a short medical history to make sure that you are eligible. You are then brought to a dim room with stations separated by heavy curtains so that you have complete privacy. From there, it is just like any other massage. I left completely relaxed, feeling like a new person, and having spent only $20. Although you will have to plan well in advance for a massage here, if you need a quick pick-me-up and you don't want to pay spa prices, I highly recommend giving this place a try. more
