Love my furniture and experienced GREAT customer service 7/31/2010

I had liked a floor sample back in March but was hesitant with negative reviews I saw on-line. I was looking to furnish my bedroom and was disappointed that everything was veneer vs. natural wood....and the styles out there did not catch my eye. This floor sample stayed in my mind and I went back to Yianni who was a pleasure to work with and had excellent follow up and worked with me to create my perfect custom bedroom. The quality is excellent, the design is fantastic and the price was a good value. They even delivered in 1 month when they said they would. Pros: custom, flexible, excellent quality, ontime delivery, beauti Cons: i didn't experience any cons more

vastly improved and well worth it 9/8/2009

We have purchased a number of pieces from MDC over the last few years, I am sure well more than the cranky-pants angry reviewers that litter this listing. For best results, stick with the new UWS location and work with Yanni. Yes, Samantha was a drag and it is good she is gone. But we have always been happy with the end products, even while she was there. I'll give one example only. We needed 3 bathroom vanities custom made for a house that we renovated outside of the city. One was simple, another a more complex built-in, and the third a difficult curved-front. Our contractor quoted us something astronomical and ultimately couldn't get the pieces done. Yanni took our architects drawings and had the pieces built to spec, one in walnut, got them done in 4 weeks, and came in at less than half what i had been quoted elsewhere. Bottom line, if you choose well, you will get furniture at a cost and quality comparable to Crate n Barrel or even Room n Board, but custom. Just steer clear of the late 80s styles they have lying around as examples. Pros: quality materials and workmanship, helpful in design Cons: need to keep eye on finishes more

I ordered 4 stools from these guys after visiting the downtown showroom--the were orange lacquer counter stools. They were supposed to be here by March, but weren't actually delivered until July. When they came, they were Stainless steel stools w/ orange leather cushions--completely different from what I ordered. I refused deliver and call MDC. They tried to get me to accept the incorrect stools by saying that they had had some problems w/ the finish on the lacquer stools and that they were chipping. And if I wanted the orange stools, I would have to wait another 8 to 10 weeks. When I said I wanted a refund, they all of a sudden say they don't give refunds! They were rude and unhelpful, and even admitted that the situation was unfair to me, but that they couldn't do anything about it. I then disputed the charge on my credit card--MDC's response was to flat out lie and to say that the stools delivered had been the ones that I ordered, and that I had just changed my mind! They even said that they had originally offered me a refund (untrue). Now I have a $1600 credit at this place that I have to use, and I can barely make myself even go in the store I'm so angry at them. They do not care about their customers. If anything goes wrong with your order, you are screwed. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. THESE GUYS DO NOT DESERVE YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY! Pros: Furniture looks good in the showroom Cons: Everything more

I don't even know where to start, if there was such a thing as customer dis-service award ,MDC will take it hands down. I bought my entire living room there and was told it would take 8 weeks to arrive, i finally received my order 15 weeks later and it arrived damage, when I called the head office in Brooklyn to complain about this, some guy named sassan (a real KNUCKLEHEAD) said that i was lying and that it will cost me more money to have these damages fixed. Not only have I waited for eternity for my furniture but to my biggest surprise I was being bullied and insulted and punished for something that arrived damaged. Pros: my sales person Sal was very nice Cons: WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE more

MDC furniture store, Samantha and their reviews 6/23/2008

I just happened to stumble upon these bad reviews and I will try to make this as short as I can? Pros: Thumbs up for this store and Samantha Cons: It should be a bit larger store more

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. According to them, ""custom made furniture"" is not what you would expect from custom made to measure furniture. They lie to your face about how perfect it will be before you order it, but after you receive it and there are so many problems, they tell you that ?custom made furniture is not perfect!.? Here?s what they do - they make a generic piece which is not customized until it is onsite and therefore unworkable for its specific purpose. Their idea of customization is to ?hack away? at the inferior design to ?jury-rig? it for a ?makeshift? solution. The result is a poorly designed piece furniture that does not adequately take into consideration the needs of the user for whom it was intended and does not even remotely function as promised. For this, they require payment in full before taking delivery, leaving you no recourse when you discover that you have been duped. Then when you are dissatisfied, they blame the buyer! and scream and yell at you. These people can?t design to save their lives, to say this is custom made furniture is an outright LIE! You are better off getting a bunch of stuff from Ikea and hiring someone to cut it up to make it work in your space ? you?ll get the same product and save a lot of money, aggravation and time. Worst Customer Service Experience EVER 2/28/2008

My boss initially ordered a bookshelf for her children's room at MDC; it arrived within a reasonable time, however, wasn't the correct size and wouldn't fit up the stairs in her home. Realizing mistakes happen, she attempted to resolve the matter with them, however wasn't called back. She wrote a letter to them, & was called back only once, and left a voicemail. The unprofessionalism here is nothing short of shocking. Cons: Terrible customer service, especially Samantha. Headaches galore. We thought it was reasonably priced, now we know why. more

Good Stuff - Affordable Furniture with Some Basic Functionality 12/29/2007

My wife and I love our wall unit that we custom-designed and purchased from MDC on the Upper West Side. Pros: Affordable, High Quality Cons: Long Lead Time, Mediocre Customer Service, Little Variety more

Avoid this place like the plague 9/7/2007

a truly horrible experience. they were great when we talked about our furniture, they gave us a nice deal, took our deposit, and then it all fell apart. aside of the furniture being several weeks late, the delivery was scheduled for a weekday. we wait all day for the truck to come only to find out at the end of the day, after we called over and over again, that the ""truck is broken"". we reschedule for later in the week with a guarantee that it's coming. again, after blowing a second vacation day, we called to doublecheck and the warehouse knew nothing of a scheduled delivery. with our money in their bank, we were treated very poorly. we were warned by a previous customer that this would happen and we didn't listen. you should! more

Great product and service 8/10/2007

I heard of MDC from family friends who were very happy with their entertainment unit they had bought from MDC a few years ago. When we needed our bedroom redone we went to the MDC shop uptown and were really impressed with the level of expertise of their designer at hand, and the quality of the product displayed. We placed an order with them for the storage pieces to be done and shipped in the 8 weeks standard time they take for custom projects. more

Prior to shopping at this store (909 Broadway), I did not know that I could find such great deals on furniture in the city. more

Horrible customer service and products substandard 5/9/2007

After ordering several products for clients of mine, they were not delivered on time (late by months) and now a full year later we're still struggling to get the pieces repaired/replaced. The items we received were made incorrectly. When we spoke with them, they insisted the product was correct, which was laughable and obviously not true; and have since continually delayed, delayed, delayed. Even though the pieces cost nearly 10,000.00 we were told it wasn't a priority to repair them for us , and that new clients coming in took top priority over current clients and any repairs. Extremely immature and bad business practice, almost like a child was running a company. We're nearing taking legal action against the company. more

Worst Customer Service, Subpar Furniture 4/28/2007

We literally don't know where to begin. Our custom built-in desk for which we gave them a very specific template was not at all in the shape that we specified. There was glue left on the seams, a number of sides were left unpainted, the grommets (holes for cords) were not cut, our file cabinet did not fit under the desk as we had asked, and the computer tray was too small to hold our computer. We also had two small shelves made and these were delivered looking like something that someone's kid made in shop class. Cons: horrible customer service more

Very poor customer service 4/18/2007

We ordered a piece of furniture with MDC and were told it would arrive in 3 months. We called when it did not arrive and were given new dates when a ""shipment"" was supposed to come in. This happened every month for the next few months. Nobody called us to say that there would be a delay. Frequently we were told that the person managing our furniture order was not available (and then never received a call back) or we were misled with promises of yet another shipment. Nobody seems to know what's going on there. Very poor customer service. We ended up asking for a refund. more

poor quality 2/18/2007

The in store salesman was curteous while we were buying our sofa. However, after we paid, the good customer service ended. We were informed of the long delivery time so we did know what to expect, however, it was extremely frustrating when they could not give us an exact delivery date. And anytime we called for an update we were treated like a nuisance. Unless you are extremely patient or don't need your furniture immediately I would not recommend this wait period. more

Worse customer Service I've ever experienced 5/9/2006

After a 8 month delay (yes, ""month""), the company owner renegged on a promise to provide free delivery and discount price. But not before being rude and completely unprofessional. This is not limited to him - we had similar problems with the store manager where we made our purchase (909 B'way). This whole place is dysfunctional, and clueless at how to treat customers...I think they see retail customers as pests and annoyances. Don't shop here...other people deserve your money more than these clowns. more

First Class 3/2/2006

First Class service and products. Where else can you get a piece of furniture and cabinetry made to order without paying premium prices? Not cheap but the value you get is well worth it. The designers work with you to refine your ideas, have great suggestions, help you keep costs down. My designer came to my home 4 times measure and re-measure every step of the design process. Pros: Great Service more

Poor customer service 8/5/2005

After placing an order with MDC, the customer service team was very discourteous in the follow-up procedure. My order was a month late, and despite trying to work with MDC in resolving the issue, the MDC staff was extremely hostile, rude, and unreasonable. They do not take care of their customers once the sale is complete, and really have no interest in devloping a trusting relationship with clients. I would highly discourage anyone from ordering furniture at MDC. Don't waste all your valuable time trying to track down an order that is well overdue. Pros: Cheaper furniture, Location, Customization Cons: Rude service, Poor follow-up, Broken promises more

Wonderful Experience 3/13/2005

I just purchased a number of items from this store. I was pleasantly surprised at the prices and the quality. The service was outstanding. I have yet to get my isn't due for another few weeks, but so far...I was pleased enough after spending a lot of time looking for styles that would match my budget (not that this stuff is cheap, but it is no way near the prices charged by higher priced stores for the same look). MDC definitely has a particular style, so if you're into clean looking pieces, I'd highly recommend checking it out. Pros: Service, Good styling, Construction Cons: Limited selection more
