Kennedy School 4/10/2006

McMennamins Kennedy School is a very fun and unique place to eat. It's actually an old elementary school that has been turned into a restaurant and movie theater. I haven't seen movies there, but they usually show second run shows, and I think there are comfortable chairs and couches in the theater. The food is grill-style and I think there is a brew pub, but I'm not a beer drinker, so you would need to check out their web site for more info. http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=57&id=465 Have a great time in Portland! more

Great Food, Fantastic Atmosphere 4/7/2006

I'm so glad I ventured over to the Kennedy School for dinner a while back. What a fun place. I really didn't expect that eating in an old elementary school could be that much fun, but it was great. The food was excellent and it was neat to explore the halls and check out the movie theater and imagine what it must have been like to go to school there. I love that McMenamins creates such unique dining experiences through their various restaurants. more

Why counldn't school have been more like this 8/20/2005

Like all McMenamins locations, Kennedy School is unique, and like no other place you will ever visit. Make sure you come with plenty of time to look around the whole school. The movie theatre has a decent sized screen, and funky furniture. The atmosphere here is great, and this is a fantastic place to see a movie with a few friends. Food and drinks are delivered to your seat. How great is that? What more could you want! more

Great spot for movies and beer! 8/10/2005

Wow, only one word describes this place. Wow... This place rocks (as do all the other McMenamins establishments). This venue IS an old elementary school (The Kenney School), turned into, basically a large bar. It is quite nostolgic to see people with beers walking through the halls of an elementry school, but that is half the fun as well. For $3 you can get a movie, or you can go sit in 'Detention' and drink a martini. There is a 24 hour restaraunt and also there is a hotel, so lots to do here. McMenamins is a great place for fun and friends, so bring a few along and enjoy yourselves! more

Food, beer, and a movie. What could be better 6/24/2005

McMenamin's Kennedy School is a great place to spend the evening--or, if you're so inclined, the night, as the school-cum-theater has a number of small hotel rooms. The food is decent, the beer is excellent, and movies are cheap ($3). Your food and drinks can be served and eaten during the flick. Kennedy also has a number of watering holes and places to dine within its confines. It's a popular place to be, but parking is always available. more
