Editorial review from Citysearch 2/20/2013

The guy is a ripoff. It doesn't look like the ritz for nothing. Computers always down. Unprofessional behavior. Not on time. Tries to sell stuff you don't need. Go someplace else. He is a salesman more than a dermatologist. Having to have a credit card on file is their way of hoping you have a no show so they can charge. Makes one feel more that they are wanting your money more than they care about your illness. Go to someone that is moderately concerned more about your care than your insurance and credit card. more

Fantastic Experience & Great Care! 11/11/2010

The care at Sunflower Dermatology has been phenomenal for my entire family and we are appreciative of Dr. Matthys' expert care and compassion. I have two children with mild skin and each has had his fair share of skin issues. Each case has been expertly solved over the years by Dr. Matthys and his staff. Aside from the positive results, we always feel welcome at the practice. I highly recommend Sunflower for its professionalism and the care my family has received- THANK YOU!!! more

Great experience! 11/9/2010

I had never been to the dermatologist before, but my husband urged me to go to check out some moles I had been worried about. Dr. Matthys was very friendly. He recommended I have one mole removed for biopsy- which I did not want to do because I was afraid it was going to hurt. Thankfully, he was gentle, and I didn't feel a thing! A few days later, they called to tell me I was fine. more

One of the best! 11/8/2010

Dr. Matthys has been my dermatologist for five years now and discovered my first melanoma. He and his staff were most professional, but also caring and compassionate during this difficult time for me. I see them regularly and feel more like family than a patient. Over the years I've had many friends ask me who my dermatologist is and I send them straight to Dr. Matthys at Sunflower. I always hear back that my friends have the same professional, caring experience I've come to expect from them. more

Top Notch Dermatologist 11/5/2010

I've gone to Dr. Matthys for several years now. Not only is he great with patients (and kids), he knows his stuff. And then some. He's effective, efficient and has suggested a lot of things in the way of treatments that I hadn't considered. All have been extremely beneficial to the care of my skin. I've seen excellent results. I like the fact that he's congenial, affable and doesn't try to sell you the farm. I've found his medical staff and spa staff are always ready and willing to help -- despite many of the comments on this page. And the best part? If I'm ever in a complete bind, he makes a concerted effort to get me in -- no questions asked. I feel lucky I found him ... which was just dumb blind luck five years ago. But glad I did. And you will be too! more

Keep a tight grip on your billfold! 10/25/2010

First visit was fine, I understand them wanting the $25.00 co-pay right away. The problem is when I went back for the follow up visit for the test results after having a mole removed they wanted another $25.00 calling this a new office visit. This may legal but certainly not ethical. When I said I just want my test results without having to pay for an office visit they informed me I would be charged a $50.00 no show charge. This seems very underhanded and wrong. They will never see me there again or anyone I know. more

Love the doctor, highly recommend 5/13/2010

First and foremost, I absolutely love Dr. Matthys. My son and I have both seen him. He makes me feel very comfortable and confident in what he is doing and I have never felt like he was in a rush. My son has seen him several times for eczema and I had to have a mole removed from behind my ear. The procedure was scary, but he made me feel very at ease and it was over in no time. Pros: Doctor is friendly, takes his time, very personable. Cons: Staff leaves a lot to be desired. more

I recommed Dr. Matthys 11/2/2009

I have had really good experiences with Dr. Matthys. I was ?blessed? with fair skin and am now paying for it with skin cancer. Dr. Mattys is extremely personable and professional physician. He did not rush me in and out like so many other physicians I have interacted with. I had my first skin cancer detected and removed approximately 10 years ago while living in Boston. I have been seeing Dr. Matthys for approximately five years. I have found Dr. Matthys to do a more thorough job and the skin cancer he has removed has had much less scarring than work done by his east coast peers. Pros: Great medical treatment more

Horrible 10/27/2009

It is his family that makes up the majority of the office and they are rude and he is very much full of himself Cons: Its a family mess more

The Worst Medical Experience of my 43 years!!! 3/24/2008

It's apparent the employees have not received Customer Service training at ALL, to inculde the Ofc Mgr. Let me point out, I speak clear English, it is my primary language, & has been my entire life. As a consumer, I ask questions. I asked the receptionist of the document I was about to sign authorizing them to debit my account for procedures up to $250.00 w/o notifying me. ""Does this mean you can charge my debit card at any time without my knowledge, for any amount?"" She replied; ""yes."" Next question; ""is there an alternative?"" She said I could use a major charge card. Instantly I recalled readign the Dr's bio which gave the impression of a compassionate practice. Upon this, I asked to speak to the Office Manager (please note, this was pretty much the jist of my conversation with her regarding this matter, no need for even raised voice). While waiting the 45 mins to speak with the Ofc Mgr who was supposedly on hold the duration (during which I overheard her speaking with another patient she messed up with, HE got a free coffee cup out of the deal). The Ofc Mgr was even less cooperative than the receptionist... I've discovered who administers training in this office. She interrupted me constantly, accused me of lying, being rude and ""attacking"" the front desk. Another humorous point I informed her I called my bank during my extended wait (which she was well aware of and offered no apologies for) and they instructed me (after I told them word for word what the receptionist said and read the document to them) that this was illegal. She informed me it was not... ""they had an accountant"". I'm assuming from her statement, their office requires accountants to have law degrees. She declared it to being the same as using my card at any other comsumer... gas station, hotel, etc... Hmmm. No, not at all. It was a 'red flag' listening to the two at the front desk bad mouthing the other staff members including Ofc Mgr (45 min wait)... Pros: first will never know following three... worse than 'not recommend'!!! more

Terrible Customer Service 1/30/2008

Very similar experience as was mentioned by two other reviewers I read on this review. I received the same credit card or else mandate as with all patients. Front desk staff was very unfriendly to their patients that I saw. Had I not needed to get my proceedure done quickly, I definately would have left. I would not recommend anyone to the business. Run, run, run, away........ more

Poor Patient Care Services 12/6/2007

The office will ask you for a credit or debit card / driver's license and insurance card. What ever is not covered by your insurance will be automatically taken from you checking account or placed on a credit card. They will call you if it is over $250.00 but the total amount will be charged or taken out of checking. So if the visit is $1,000 and your insuarnce pays $50 the balance is charged or taken out of checking. No other options. There was also a confused elderly lady in waiting room from the attached hospital and she was to be taken into patient area and staff pushed her wheel chair with her feet under it. When it wouldn't move she shoved it harder three more times. Finally someone in the waiting room said ""you are hurting her feet they are under the chair."" I don't feel this clinic is patient oriented or professional. I walked out of the clinic after asking for my cards back and not agreeing to the payment method. The receptionist who was angry with me calle me later to let me know "" you left your debit card."" No apology of keeping it. I would not suggest this clinic. As a patients we deserve to be treated professionally and kindly. My personal opinion is you won't find it here. Cons: Patient care is not number one priority, money is.... more

I will never step foot in Sunflower again! 10/30/2007

I took my son to Sunflower for a skin condition, had the initial visit and set up a follow up vist 3 months out. My son's condition grew worse and he needed to be seen sooner. That visit was good and we set up a new follow up visit. Everything was fine until I recieved a $50 ""no-show"" charge for the first follow up visit on my bank account. When I called the office to explain that there was an error, that there were duplicate appointments, I was informed that there was no error and questioned if I knew how to read among other inappropriate comments, then hung up on because ""the conversation is going nowhere"". The treatment I received from the office staff was so outragous that I will never step foot in the office again. The nurse that treated my son was good but not worth being treated the way I was treated by the staff. Be forwarned, Sunflower is really motived by the ""no-show"" fees not by good patient services. Cons: Rude Office Staff & Outragous $50 ""No-Show"" Fee more
