We've been going to Dr Matthews for 2 years now and my 4 yo son has had several procedures done. Many fillings and has been put under general anesthesia due to soft enamel. Dr Matthews has been impatient with my son on several occasions but this last time was the straw that broke the camel's back. My son had to have 2 fillings and after waiting for an oral sedative to kick in, Dr Matthews began to work on my son's teeth. After my son gagged and choked due to a bite guard, Dr. Matthews rudely and impatiently told him/us that he could not perform the work. I believe his impatience was due to the fact that he was running behind and he didn't want to take the time to ease my son into feeling more relaxed. My son has had many procedures so he knows what to expect. But for whatever reason, he was gagging on the guard. We love the staff and the hygienist is always so patient and sweet. The staff is wonderful and we love the atmosphere but Dr. Matthews should not be working on small children. Small kids get nervous and it's not easy having fillings and crowns put on. Gosh, adults don't even like it. But someone who works with kids should be more gently and patient. We will look for another dentist who will take the time to care for our kids.
