Excellent 12/25/2010

I am not a great cook, but I do love to cook and eat, especially eat. There are a lot of restaurants out there that get the ""I shouldn't have bothered"" rating. The food is no better than I could have done at home, many times worse, much worse. So there is a lot of disappointment with dining out. But Massimo's is not one of them. The food was excellent, the service was good, the wine list really varied and the atmosphere is cozy. It is one of the few restaurants I've been to in the Tampa/St. Pete area that really provides excellent food across the menu. Highly recommended, that is if you can get a reservation. Be sure to plan at least a week in advance, even for week night reservations. more

Must Try !! 1/9/2009

Four of us ate here last week.. Cozy atmosphere. We started with some appetizers: Duck and brie was so great we ordered a second. The calamari was light and not oily like we have had at other places. I think they use a rice flour. Then two of us shared a lobster bisque that was heavenly- creamy and had chunks of lobster in it. For entrees we had Veal Cognac in a creamy mushroom sauce, veal chop that was huge and breaded, Jumbo shrimp and scallops, and the shrimp were huge. My favorite: tuna loin that came with three delicious sauces presented in Japanese style spoons. I asked for more of the sauces so that everyone could taste them, they were so good.\r One of our friends is a wine enthusiast and he had ball going over the wine list. He loved the selections and thought the prices were reasonable compared to what he is used to.\r For dessert we had tiramisu...not soggy or overpowering with liquor like I have had elsewhere. My friend had a pear-mint sorbet that was refreshing.\r Later in the evening the chef came out and greeted each table. He traded some stories with us and was very nice. We will defininetly be coming back.\r Pros: Food, atmoshphere, service more

Great place 10/31/2008

Well, I was browsing the sight and came upon the last review. My husband and I were sitting at the next table and heard everything. It was quite amusing. Both the server and the chef asked if they would like something else prepared and the man kept pointing at the bone, had an issue with the bone...it was a TBONE! They were willing to remove it from the bill and prepare something else, but that didn't placate him....hmmmmmm....... We were enjoying the same dish. We have been there several times with no issues. Like I said, it was very entertaining. Pros: Great food & service more

Rude, poor quality food, miserable experience 10/18/2008

We were anxious to try this restaurant. The website bragged of wonderful delights.\r \r The waitress was condescending, we let that fly, figuring she was new to fine dining service. The butter (his blend?) was frozen. Still, we held out hope. The pour on the wine was laughable. (We enjoy fine red wines and that was part of the draw, although we were underwhelmed by the wine list. Vast, yes, but overpriced and not anything spectacular.)\r \r Finally, the steak dinner (the evening special, a 16 oz steak for $31) was served. It was all bone and grizzle. My husband could not find anywhere to cut and try a piece. The chef was brought to the table and he was arrogant and argumentative.\r \r We would warn everyone to avoid this place. Pros: ? Cons: arrogant, steak inedible more
