pretty good service 5/24/2008

we went here as a random craving for indian cuisine and we ended up taking a friend a long that was not familiar with other food stuffs aside from pizza.. . when we arrived at its location we were greeted kindly and was seated right away, i honestly was expecting a lame crappy lit poor atmosphere setting but i was suprised to see the decor matched with its theme with a collage of various indian actors along the walls, spotlight lighting making it feel like a stage room, and there was a dancer that walked around and greeted everyone seated. during our visit we ordered the chicken tikka masala, onion naan, and some vegetable rice that was incredibly delicious. everything we ordered was really good including the restaurant specialty drinks that i can't remember the names of for the life of me. The staff was attentive and was readily available when we had a question about the food. overall a really nice place to go with friends for an intimate dinner and quite possibly a great place to go for the outlandish date. Pros: yay for great food more

Mandatory 18% Gratuity for a Buffet 5/19/2008

The first time we went it was a decent place because the atmosphere was nice and clean. The second time around (yesterday) the food was bland and they had fewer dishes at the lunch buffet. The buffet consist of chicken tandoori, chicken tikka masala (I think?there was no taste to the dish), two vegetable dish, some type of samosa and a green salad. Six dishes are not what I would consider a buffet. Additionally, be prepared to pay a required gratuity of 18% for BUFFET meal for a party of 4. Pros: clean, nice atmosphere Cons: few offerings, mandatory gratuity, bland food more

Masala Bollywood CATERS WEDDINGS better than any other restaurant!!! 1/12/2008

The gorgeous Sonalee and her restaurant catered my wedding at the Ocean Place in Long Branch, NJ. They traveled all the way from NYC on a busy long weekend with their entire staff to make my wedding the best affair anyone had attended. Everything about the day turned out perfect, thanks to the impeccable service and delicious food of Masala Bollywood. Every and each person at the wedding came up to me after the wedding and made it a point to tell me that they have never had better food at a wedding in their whole life. They put Mogual and Chaand Palace to shame. Guys if you have a special day coming up in your life, don't waste your money on such run-down food as these places. Try something creative and new. They specialized my whole menu for me to fit the theme of the wedding. They brought in Thai iced tea, and sushi, and a falooda station, and any other request I had, when all the other caterers told me they don't provide that. They came in with a food decorator to the hall to analyze the "look" of the wedding. It was the most personalized vendor I had worked with. You don't understand how many people asked me for their contact info for THEIR wedding afterwards through seeing my wedding firsthand. Sonalee and her team also specialize in event consulting and provided a decor and theme for my wedding catering as well. I was stunned to see the results of the hard work we all put into our wedding. It was the most beautiful day of my life. Go to the restaurant and see for yourself. It's the best Indian/Indian-Chinese, Punjabi food anywhere! And the best caterers anywhere!!! Pros: The FOOD, the Hostess, the ambiance Cons: All the way in NYC but worth the drive more

Bollywood Bollywood.. Balle Balle Food 1/1/2008

I love to watch bollywood movies and eat Indian curry. Frankly I have passed this place numerous times but never found time to check it out. But last week it was raining heavily & I was very hungry and this place was right there so I decided. I was welcomed nice by younger waiter and got seated on one of their boots on the right side. This place decor is something else I mean nice. I order st8 main course Chicken Tikka, panir makhani, lamb sag and plan rotis. First bite and I was in heaven def nice, very distinctive taste not so much of anything all spice were blend well. I like this place they will def see me again. Pros: chicken tandori, lamb dish, naans more

Had a great time 11/8/2007

This place rocks went with 4 other friends started of with their special drink 2 ?Mango masti? quite a interesting mix of rum & Kajurtini ( oh I like this one). In appetizer we had the best samosa chat you can find in NYC & 2 spicy masala papadam. For main course we ordered chilli chicken, butter chicken, methi mutter malai, jeera rice with some onion kulcha & tandori roti. FOOD is GREAT!! very delicious from the start to the end... except there was no room for dessert as they have my favorite ?Rass malai? in there happy ending section?will take it a rain check. Over all it was a great experience service was great, food was delicious & there unique ambience of the restaurant is definitely worth experiencing. Pros: 5 thumbs up... more

Great Place to dine 7/16/2007

I had been to Masala Bollywood with a friend of mine. Its a really a nice place. Good service. Food was good. I highly recommend everyone to go the Masala Bollywood. The menu includes an appetizing array of signature Indian dishes from Bombay. The assorted appetizers like Gobi Manchurian, Tandoori Chicken, Prawns were excellent. Then in main course we had Chicken rice that I never had before at any place. The food over all was very good and would love to go to Masala again. Pros: Food, Service, Cons: dont know if any more

JULY 4th Dinning Experience. - 7/5/2007

After watching JULY 4th fireworks which started late all the restaurants around NY were pretty much close we were hungry as horse only choice we had was to go see if some place is open on Murry hill, and yes that was this shinny place called Masala Bollywood. It was packed; this was about 10:30pm. We were 16 people so lady manager got us seated gave us menu to look up, took while before they took our order, we totally understand as place was over flooding with people. We consider our self lucky to just have a place to eat so we order like 50 items like there?s no tomorrow. I have to give Masala Bollywood staff a great appreciation for being so calm and fast with us even though we kept on changing our order they served us with all smiles. Food was served on time, and service was great. I visit NY occasionally so when ever I am in city and craving Indian food will be coming to Masala Bollywood that?s for sure. I recommend everyone who is looking to have great time and tasty food to give this restaurant a shot. Pros: service, decor, food, service service. oh lady manager :) more

MOST ARROGANT AND DISRESPECTFUL STAFF EVER 7/4/2007

If I had a choice to give it zero stars I would. This has been the worst place i have ever been to. Let me start by saying that i am not the kindda person to take time off to write reviews about restaurants but this place ticked us off to the extent that i decided to express my self. The first impression is decent because of the decor, you kindda feel it is an absolutely desi place with all the huge bollywood pictures. Well i guess that is the best thing about this place from there on every thing is down hill slide .The food is absolutely crappy and to top it off the staff is definitely the rudest i have ever encountered. The service is miserable .We had to wait for an hour and a half before our order was served and guess what they bring us, the complete wrong order. To top it off the manager was the rudest and most disrespectful person i have ever met. It is a very heart rendering fact that being an Indian restaurant that they disrespect Indians by saying they are not catering for Indians and all their customers are mostly Americans. I guess any one would be ticked off if you have been sitting there and Americans who walk in 30 mins after you get served and are done with their food while you are still waiting. Mind you I am a very patient person, I understand things take a long time sometime i dint mind the wait even though it was an hour and a half but it was the attitude of the staff that really put me off. Me and my friends are never going back to this place and we would advice all our acquaintances the same. Pros: DECOR Cons: THE MANAGER IS THE UNPROFESSIONAL,RUDE,UNCOUTH more

Had a Great Bollywood Time 7/4/2007

Went for my Birthday with my boyfriend last week , place was packed. We started of with thier signature drink Bombay Masti was splendid which we received shortly before ordering starter for that we had asked for murg masti & assort Appitzers & for Main dish we had of course Chk Tikka Masala, Kadai Lamb and Methi Mutter Malai accompanied by bread basket. Must say service was great, we had great time enjoying the ambience as well as food which was served mannerly and on time. The entire staff at Bollywood is pleasant as soon as manager there who is very welcoming and beautiful young lady discovered about my birthday she treated me with special bollywood dessert...YUMMY sweet gesture. We thought she was bollywood actress but found out later that she?s a bollywood dancer she mentioned she?s going to have bollywood dance nights so def will be going to watch that. So, overall we really enjoyed it. Nice Food, Good atmosphere,Great service. Would defiantly go again and recommend it. Pros: great everything more

Excellent time. 4/18/2007

Rencently at Masala Bollywood i reserved table for 25 people for my birthday & we all had amazing time. I was bit afraid since most of my friends never had Indian food, i thought it would be exotic experience to have my bday celebrated there. I was completely satisfied with the managment. They have Great food, great service, and great ambiance won our hearts and will not forget the most entertainning night we had at Masala Bollywood. I jsut wanted to correct that Ms Sonnali was a fabulous host, she took care of us like her own friends. She even surprised me with a Bday cake. She's young, good looking and doing a great job. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who's looking to have truly good time, great drinks and out of this world food. Pros: Enjoyed bollywood dance videos, food, service, DEF BOMBAY MASTI drink Cons: none. more

Avoid for events! 2/11/2007

The manager Sonali is terrible at coordinating events. She double booked us and is just not professional with handling customers and situations. DO NOT RELY ON HER for reservations/booking etc. Pros: Servers are accomodating. Cons: Terrible place for having huge party events because the manager is absolutely unprofessional. more

One of the Best Indian Restaurants in NYC, at ANY price 12/29/2006

Indian restaurants usually come in two varieties: expensive and good, or cheap and average. Bollywood blends the best of both, at a fairly inexpensive rate. And, unlike the other restaurants in the Little Lex India area, Bollywood has a theme and clean decor. The staff knows how to make true spicy Indian food. Better food than Tamarind...One of the best in NYC. Pros: Great food, Excellent Value, Personal Service, Even the Bathrooms are Nice... Cons: Nothing...Really! more

A truly amazing experience 11/7/2006

Service was outstanding and thier ongoing bollywood videos were really entertaining. Amazing idea. Pros: Theme, Decor, Food more
