Happy Hour 9/21/2010

I went on a Sunday with my family. They have complimentary mimosas all day! You also get one free edamame appetizer. Prices are very reasonable for a sushi place. Also try their noodle soup its really good! more

Epic quality at common prices. 6/29/2010

I travel a lot of places for business, and recently had the pleasure of eating here with a friend/co-worker who highly suggested this restaurant. I was not disappointed even slightly. I tend to be very demanding on sushi quality, and find the garbage that most accept as great to be anything but. The sushi at Masa is very high quality and you can taste how fresh the fish is. Their Temaki (hand rolls) are well balanced (which tends to be hard to find) and their Maki rolls aren't as skimpy as you get elsewhere. Best thing is their Philadelphia roll isn't overly cream-cheesy like almost every other sushi restaurant tends to screw up. Pros: Good Quality, AMAZING tempura'ed Ice-Cream Cons: Location is the only almost-con. more

i had better 6/27/2010

yes the food was okay and at lunch it was cheap. but the service WAS AWFUL and how they prepare the food made me sick. i was sitting in the booth next to the sushi bar, and i got to see how they made the food and it was gross. they NEVER washed there hands and NO ONE wore gloves when making the sushi. The glasses we drank out of were dirty but no one could really see it because its too dark in the restaurant to notice, but next time have a look and you will see. And how they refill there soy sauce was disgusting, they would use there water pitchers to pour the soy sauce into there bottles then reuse it to refill drinks. what made me never want to go back here was the awful service, it was at the end of the night (an hour before they closed) and i guess our waiter was too busy (even though we were pretty much they only people there) to service us. he kept on going outside to make phone calls and he was drinking was the owners, it took him 30minutes to bring our order out to us and when he did he gave us an attitude when we asked for more wasabi and ginger. Another waiter came to our table and took our soy sauces after that also. i would NEVER go back! Pros: close to home Cons: bad service and alright food. more

Sushi Friendly 5/25/2009

We tried Masa Sushi off of Nasa Road 1 for the first time this past Memorial Day weekend. We were seated at a nice table by the window, and immediately brought the menus. The sushi and sashimi offerings are extensive. We tried shrimp tempura, the shrimp roll, the crunch roll, and the Honolulu roll. All four of us at the table had our own opinions on which one was the best. But I have to say that the Honolulu roll was absolutely outstanding; I highly recommend it. You get about 10 pieces on this roll, which is served on a very long plate. It includes tempura shrimp, crabmeat, avocado, and much more. It is drizzled with honey mustard sauce, and is just incredibly delicious. Our waitress was very attentive, very polite, and just a super DOLL of a cute japanese girl, who was very sweet in taking our order. We also had hot sake, an order of Japanese Udon noodles, and the Hibachi Steak. All of the dishes were very tasty and served steaming hot. My two comments would be to have them not pick up the soy sauce and condiments from your table at closing, if you are still eating, and to turn the music down a little lower\softer. It was too loud in my opinion, but I did enjoy the variety of music. We will definately be going back again. The sushi and meals were fantastic. PS: They brought us a complimentary bowl of Edamame (steamed soybeans) to our table, before we even ordered; very nice touch! Pros: Excellent and Fresh Sushi, Great Service Cons: Closing routine a little intrusive more

Good Stuff 4/17/2009

I’m a hypercritical person when it comes to restaurants. I have really high expectations. So for me to not be able to find anything wrong with this place says enough. I think the cost of the food is reasonable and so is the food. I don’t eat raw fish but I do enjoy perusing their roll selection. I recommend the Crazy Roll. If you go on Sundays you get free edamame and mimosas! My husband gets the bento boxes which I don’t see the fascination with those but he is always pleased with them. I’ve never had any issues with bad service. Pros: Good Quality Food at Reasonable Price Cons: Restaurant Has Slight Fishy Smell (If I had to pick a con) more

yummy!!! 2/14/2009

Their signature rolls are really unique and tasty, worth every dollar of it. Small place but fast service. very romantic, definately worth to bring your date there for dinner. Pros: signature rolls, romantic atmosphere, good service Cons: small - about 4 boths and 15 tables more

Rivals the best! 2/2/2009

Rolls were plentiful and tasty... definitely will be going back... Pros: Sushi, service, Cons: Music (radio with commercials, and the volume was too loud) more

Fresh Sushi Owner's Brother Owns A Fish Market 12/10/2008

so i could never figure out how masa's sushi was not only so fresh, but HUGE cuts. Yeah, you're paying $2 a piece but it's the thickest cut I've ever seen at any restaurant. i talked to the owner and he explained his brother owns a fish market. i eat sushi all the time and i take a lot of pleasure in trying out new places. i've also worked at several sushi restaurants so i know my stuff. take it from me, the sushi here is so fresh, and so large, that it's well worth your money. fufu roll will feed a family of 4 on its own. Pros: fresh thick sushi slices Cons: music is always 90s style more

LOVE IT!! Small environment, very nice for a date 8/19/2008

We discovered this sushi gem a couple of years ago. We are about 30 miles from it so we only go every so often. However, it is a birthday favorite of my boyfriends and myself. The service is always consistent, I can't ever think of a time when our order was wrong. The food is always stellar, we love the crunch roll and the tuna tartare. They also have a nice selection of sashimi and sushi pieces. My boyfriends mother doesn't eat sushi but loves the regular menu. They do however have a couple of interesting ice cream flavors. My boyfriend loves the green tea, it tastes exactly like green tea. There is no other way to describe it. They also have red bean but we have not tried it yet, maybe next time. The dinning area is small so on weekends it is a bit crowded. If you have a large group and want to go on either weekend night, call ahead. If you do not then you can expect to wait forty five minutes to an hour. It's worth it but it can get frustrating. The bar can be fun to sit at. We have tried a few new rolls recently because we sat at the bar and watched them make a couple. All in all our favorite sushi place that we have discovered so far. Pros: great sushi and comfortable environment, booths are nice if on a date Cons: crowded on weekends more

Best Sushi Place Ever! 8/9/2008

I eat at Masa Sushi ATLEAST twice a week. I am very picky with sushi and have tried almost every place in the city of Houston and Masa is the best place by far! Great environment, very nice people and wonderful service, and extra fresh food. Great place for casual dining during the day and at night the mood is set very nice for a romantic dinner. Prices are reasonable too! Sushi anywhere is never cheap. I more than highly recommend Masa Sushi. Pros: Great food, friendly people. Cons: The music sometimes isn't so good for that type of nice dining and needs more parking spaces. more

Great service friendly staff plus great food what more do you need 5/18/2008

I have eaten here many times and every time it has been an enjoyable experience. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. The sushi and sashimi is some of the best in Clear Lake. I highly recommend coming here if you want to enjoy your meal. Pros: Great food and service more

Most Expensive Sushi 2/12/2008

I eat sushi all the time and I've tried just about every place here in the Clear Lake area from Tokyo Bowl to Sushi Coast, Ichibon, you name it I've tried it. Masa's sushi is by far the most expensive place and a big waste of money. I remember first trying sushi 10 years ago when it was considered a delicacy. Nowadays, you can get sushi just about anywhere. My wife and I went to Masa on a Tuesday night and I ordered the various sushi and sashimi while my wife tried the new steak entree that you cook on a hot rock. I think it's called Ishiki (spelling?) or something. Anyhow, the whole ordeal was a ripoff. Thirty something dollars for a few pieces of steak (and it wasn't even filet mignon). Also, our male server kept on glancing at my wife on several occasions. I had gone to the washroom during the middle of my meal and when I came back the guy was standing next to my wife trying to make conversation. For heaven's sake, let your customers dine in peace! Our billed totaled $85 and neither of us were full. At least the sushi was good, but my wife was totally disappointed by her entree. Granted we won't be going back cause there's a lot of places in this area that I'd rather spend my money. Pros: Fresh fish Cons: Way to Expensive, Bothersome Waiter more

Decent Place for the Area 7/31/2007

Masa has fresh sushi, and a great feel to it, but they are a little pricey for what it is compared to the many Sushi places in Houston. The Lunch menu could have a few more specials, and at better prices... The Tai was fresh and tasty. Pros: Fresh Sushi, Great Vibe Cons: Prices more

Best Crunch Rolls ever. Go whenever you get the chance and you'll be addicted. 3/10/2007

Masa Sushi is my favorite restaurant. Its a nice quiet place, great for dates. You can eat at the sushi bar, on the patio or inside at a table. My favorite appetizer are the crab puffs and I always order crunch rolls and oh yeah crazy sashimi. The blackened tuna is another favorite of mine. Order any of these suggested foods and your guaranteed to be a fan and frequent customer. hope you try it and enjoy!!! Pros: Quiet setting, great for dates. Delicious menu. Cons: Needs extra parking. more

Great place for sushi 1/30/2007

Yes this is the place to be for great sushi with very fresh fish. come any day on the weekend and it is packed with customers that have good taste. the staff here are very friendly and are always on the ball. If you are reading this and have not tried this place yet, do not make lunch or dinner and come here to try great food that you will not be disappointed. I have been to other places on bay area and notice that this place is the best on the southeast clear lake area(bay area). Other places like hoshizuna, samurai, and tokyo bowl beware because this place will beat all there competition. Pros: great japanese fusion food, always impressed every time more

Great Sushi with an even greater staff 11/26/2006

This place is open every day - and if I could, I would go every day. The food is just awesome - innovative, but also traditional. The staff knows exactly what they are serving and can answer questions authoritatively. And the food is just downright great. Definitely worth the trip -- try the deezy roll -- it is TOO good! Pros: Great food and great staff Cons: needs more intimate seating arrangements more

  • The Scene
Subdued lighting, contoured ceilings, bonsai trees and light-wood furnishings create a modern Asian appeal. Diners are seated at a wraparound sushi bar, in line of deep booths or at a handful of tables. The mid-day crowd of office workers and NASA employees orders quick meals from the affordably priced lunch menu while the evening crowd of neighborhood regulars lingers over conversation, enjoying the soft '80s music. Service is casual and neighborly.

    The Food
The menu features a combination of traditional sushi favorites (tuna, salmon, fresh water eel) and more avante garde dishes. The Oh! Ya! Crazy Sashimi features seared white tuna with white onions and garlic sauce. The Space Center roll packs tuna, salmon, yellow tail, smoked salmon, shrimp, crab and avocado in a cucumber wrapper. Other options include dinner combos, bento boxes, hibachi and even pork tenderloin, lamb chops and mashed potatoes. For dessert, try the fresh sherbet or greeen tea ice cream.
