I cannot tell you how absolutely thrilled I am to FINALLY find someone in Atlanta with the level of talent and sheer ability that Steven Sloss possesses. After debating for a while about whether to make a potentially awkward appointment with him while he was working in the same space as someone who did my hair for years, I finally thought ""what the hell, since when did I care about awkward?!?"" I looked him up, and as fate would have it, I happily discovered that he had opened his own place! Divine intervention, I like to call it :)\r \r First of all, the place is FABULOUS. Great space with a warm and inviting feel to it, one of the coolest and most unique salons I've ever been in, and the music they play really adds to the great atmosphere (I knew I was in the right place when I heard The Devil Makes Three, one of my favorites - outstanding!). The staff there could not be any friendlier, they totally put you at ease, and even though I was apologetically late for my first appointment for reasons beyond my control, there was no disdain - not even a hint of it! No threats to cancel my appointment and force a reschedule, no dirty looks, no nasty attitude! In fact, the only attitude waiting for me when I arrived was understanding and welcoming, which was very much appreciated and really refreshing! \r \r One side note: parking is on the street, and the streets in Cabbagetown are a bit narrow, but spaces open up quite regularly both in front of the shop and around the nearby blocks within easy walking distance, so if you have a little trouble finding a space at first, just call and let them know you're in the vicinity and be patient, it will come. :)\r \r As to Steven Sloss, he is personable, friendly, has a good head on his shoulders, and is exactly in line with my thinking about hair and hairdressing and what it should (and should not) be. His artistic ability is immediately apparent, and far surpasses what passes for talent in most Atlanta salons. I am so tickled with my haircut and his vision for my hair - and so relieved to see a return of the edgy, attractive style I knew my hair had the potential for before it was covered up by so many mediocre haircuts! Steven Sloss is, hands down, the most intuitive and innately talented stylist I've had the good fortune to find here in MANY years - and here I was, worried about having to undertake an extensive and potentially exhausting search for a phenomenal stylist in Atlanta - psh - nooooo problem! I'm all set :) more

Love Steve! And Love this place! At first I thought this was just a cool new barbershop but was so pleased to find they also do women's hair. Steve did a great job on my coiffe!! Cool, friendly, great vibe, good prices, and they know how to cut hair! If you are a guy looking for an old-timey fade, or a chick looking for a cool colour/cut, then go see these guys! They are awesome! I added some photos more

Went to Mary Todd to see what the hot shave was all about a few days ago. It was Awesome! I was seated in one of there many comfortable antique barbers chairs, and offered a cold brew while Jumpy, the resident straight razor craftsman, steamed the towels. As he placed the towel on my face, I noticed my pores instantly opening up. They use some sort of a eucalyptus oil, which really helped get the pores open. Then he applied the shave cream and went to work. Jumpy was great! He shaped up my sideburns up, and had me looking like a well groomed gentleman in no time! I didn't have to shave for 2 days afterwards! Seriously relaxing, and well worth the price! I highly recommend giving it a go, you'll be back for another with out a doubt! more

Steven has been cutting my hair for over five years and I'm happy to follow him to his own place. Not only does Steven provide a great cut, the space and people he has put together is top notch. Quality cuts and quality people without the pomp of a typical salon. more

I was excited as I saw this salon being added to my neighborhood. I was hoping the prices and level of service would be similar or better than what I had been used to in the burbs. \r \r I've had a few haircuts by Steven and I am very happy with the outstanding work and the reasonable prices. This is a neighborhood gem! more

The coolest place in Atlanta to get your hair done. The salon has all these interesting vintage barbering and hairdressing items, and it's been put together with much thought and love. Steven and his crew are awesome. I don't even live in Atlanta anymore, but when I visit I make sure to get my hair cut here. I tell everyone I know,"" Want to look awesome? Go see the peeps at Mary Todd Hairdressing."" more
