Mars Hill is a great place to take your animals! My husband had taken our pet there and could not say enough about the staff and Dr. Gross and he is usually a very hard person to please.....They were wonderful with our pets and very caring. more

Mars Hill is Magnificent 6/1/2010

I have just returned from one of my frequent visits to Mars Hill Veterinary Hospital and just had to express how grateful I am to everyone there. They are all, staff, techs, vets, so compassionate, caring, competent and professional. I had one cat with multiple medical issues who became terminal last year and now my other cat is going through multiple medical issues and is likely in the end stages. But I feel so much better about it knowing that he is recieving the best care in the area at Mars Hill. For the past several weeks he has been on twice weekly fluid injections. He gets the treatments for free after I pay one fee to purchase the bag. And after his vitamin B injection two weeks ago made him feel so much better, they have been giving him B injections along with the fluids without charge. Again, just pay one fee up front instead of $47 each time. He also gets medication for hyperthyroid in a convenient pen-style applicator. We were out of town last winter and I was afra more

I would not take my darling dogs anywhere else! 5/30/2009

I don't think there is the time or space to say all the wonderful things I would like to say about Mars Hill Animal Hospital. I would never trust the care of my dogs to just anyone, and now do not trust their care to anyone else BUT the staff at Mars Hill. We started going to them in 2003 after moving to Athens. A few years later we had to move out of state for a brief time, and would always schedule yearly check-ups when we knew we would be back in the area- and still claimed Mars Hill as their primary vet despite living in a different state. After moving back to Georgia we found that our drive to the clinic would be over an hour, yet still continue to use only their services. I have never found another vet that shows that care and compassion for both pets AND owners as Mars Hill.\r I am sympathetic to the reviewer who lost his pet rabbit. However, I have never witnessed or experienced any of the issues that he/she had, and in fact can claim the exact opposite experience. Mars H more

Great staff, Great facililty 8/26/2008

I have been a customer of Mars Hill for 3 years. I have 5 dogs, several of which are champion show dogs, and a cat who has asthma, so I am a "frequent flier". I have never had a problem with anyone here. The staff are great, and know me and my animals by name. The veterinarians are knowledgeable and experienced, and the facility is the cleanest I've ever seen. In spite of what a previous reviewer stated, money is NOT the bottom line here. Mars Hill is not a 24 hr. facility, and animals in need of critical care at night are referred elsewhere so they can receive proper treatment and monitoring: It would have been irresponsible to "set up an oxygen cage" and leave a critically ill animal alone overnight as the reviewer wanted--perhaps he did not want to pay for ICU services at an emergency hospital??? Also, I have never been asked for payment prior to treatment, even in emergency situations, so can't imagine what this reviewer is talking about. All of the doctors at Mars Hill ar more

Poor Ethics and Treatment 2/3/2008

On Monday, January 28, 2008 at about 5:30pm our bunny rabbit Lola began gasping for air. Afraid that she was choking, we rushed her to Mars Hill Animal Hospital for help. Lola was taken back and put on oxygen. After about an hour she had stabilized a little but was still gasping for air. The doctor called us back and discussed treatment options. The prognosis was that she either had something stuck in her respiratory tract, or that she had contracted pneumonia. The doctor said that she needed to sedate Lola to take an x-ray and visually inspect her nose and mouth. The doctor explained the risks, and said that respiratory problems in small animals usually had a low chance of recovery. \r \r I explained that although we didn't have much money, and that I understood the risks and pitfalls, that Lola was a member of my family and that I would appreciate them doing anything they could to save her life.\r \r A little later the doctor came out and said that Lola made it through the sedatio more

Compassionate and Reasonable 11/5/2007

I have taken my dog, cat, and guinea pig here, and they have always been friendly, prompt, and have reasonable rates. I feel that they have always gone above and beyond my expectations- for one example, they refunded the remaining cans of a case of specialty cat food after my cat passed away. more
