Nice desserts 6/1/2010

Came here with a group of 5 and we all ordered desserts. We informed the waiter that we were only there for desserts and drinks before we even sat down but he still gave us the full menu. When I repeated myself, he acted annoyed and bothered. \r I decided to shrug off the service and enjoy the desserts. I had the bread pudding which was cool and sweet, and I did try everyone else's desserts and was pleasantly surprised. I would probably return because the location is very convenient. more

Marquet Regulars 11/10/2008

For years Marquet has been a regular spot for my wife and me -- lunch, dinner, any time is good. And since our nearly four year old girl got her artwork on the wall (high on the left hand as you walk in) we love going even more.\r \r The friendly staff has become an extension of our family. There's always a food surprise -- a new appetizer or dish -- but the biggest surprise is the fact that the quality of the food has never declined over the many years we have been going there.\r \r Great food; lovely people; relaxed, charming atmosphere and Livie's awesome artwork ... for us, it really doesn't get better than this.\r Pros: Comfort food with a bit of european penache... Cons: We love it. more

cupcake with mold inside 9/18/2008

I bought a strawberry cupcake. Outside looks pretty but inside was full of disgusting green mold!!!!!! I don't know how long it was sitting there... plus, the service was pretty bad. I would never go back. more

Exquisite food, slightly pricey 10/27/2007

This place has great food and seemed popular. It is a bit pricey, but mainly due to the neighborhood. Pros: French Toast Cons: Price slightly high more

best beet soup ever 3/19/2007

BEST SOUP ever had!!! Their beet soup is the best!\r very cozy place with very decent food. I prefer dinner menu to lunch menu but their lamb meat sandwich was awesome too. \r Try this place you will love it! Pros: good food Cons: slow wait staff but good manager/owner more

worst service ever 2/23/2007

The food may be decent, the decor may be cute, but I have never encountered such poor and disinterested service anywhere in New York. No need to bore people with the long diatribe, but let's just say that mistakes were made and no one seemed to care. Both the manager and the owner were too busy to talk to me (but I could wait 20 minutes for them, if I so pleased). Mistakes are acceptable, don't get me wrong -- but when they're made, at least try to make up for them (and I'm not just talking one mistake). Seriously, it's not worth it. Pros: decent food Cons: worst service ever more

Adorable, Beautimous, Yum Yum Yum 1/17/2007

My sis and I had gone in search of Sweet Melissa's for ""the best mini linzer tarts"" - but were disappointed as they were out! We bought some other pastries from there and some coffee (her cappuccino was yum, my latte and plain coffee both were ick) and continued on in search of the only thing our hearts desired - Linzer Tarts!! I spotted Marquet and HAD to check it out - so pretty! And I'm so glad I did. The Linzer Tarts were yummy, and the Chai tea I ordered ""Can you make it 'spicy' and 'vanilla'?"" ""Sure"" - The best I've ever had! Decadent, Sweet, Sinful, Amazing! \r This place has ambiance, adorable pastries, and good tea (I didn't taste the coffee). You won't be disappointed, at least not in that, and what a great place to be at 10PM! :)\r \r (Btw Sweet Melissa - your mistake in giving me a chestnut and honey macaroon when I ordered a hazelnut chocolate macaroon is forgiven in spades - THAT is what *biscotti* should taste like. Yum too:) Pros: DeGorgeous, DeYum! Cons: nopers more

poor service 1/13/2007

yes, visually, it is quite the place. went for dinner and found an intriguing, if not unusual combination of flavors, all favorable.\r \r however, the waitstaff leaves much to be desired. on slower nights it is expected that perhaps they can shine and yet they don't. they are pretentious on top of being uninterested. very disappointing.\r \r if you don't like your job, life, something about it. Pros: atmosphere, music, menu selection Cons: service more

Best chicken sandwich 9/24/2006

Best chicken sandwich I've ever had - only been there for Sunday brunch; always great food and a nice clean place. Pros: Good food more

Great simple clean food 7/26/2006

I was never disappointed at this wonderfully homy place...all the dishes we had were clean-tasting, fresh and never missed the spot. Service can be a bit slow, but they balance it easily with extensive friendliness.\r Overall a great place to dine casually (alone just as well as with a Mistress (((see previous review)))))\r ;-) Pros: food, friendly staff more

Why was I ever even there? 7/3/2006

The food at Marquet was remarkable, but not in a good way. It was remarkably bad. The texture and the taste both were sub-par, both on my own and my mistress's dish. She had a decent sandwich for lunch there one day and I was free when she wanted to go for dinner. I was extremely disappointed. The staff was nice but extremely slow, and when they finally brought me my food I wished they hadn't. Avoid this place. Maybe it really is good for lunch. Or maybe she's crazy. Pros: The staff was nice Cons: The food was quite bad. more

Just the right ""little place"" 6/7/2006

Brazil meets Paris, in the food and the service. Quiet, charming, relaxed and superb in every way. Try it. more

Best brunch in the Village 5/6/2006

Maquet is the best option for brunch in the village. The food is terrific, the service is quick and the restaurant feels like a pretty cafe. Make sure to make a reservation because it fills up quickly. more

twhat a pathetic attempt at a breakfast joint. Poor service, and cold, stale croissants and bitter coffee are the highlights!!!! But here is a bit of advice for the pompous arrogant wait staff... when a customer calls you over to tell you that his well done egg white omelete is still raw in the middle, and shows you the egg literally running off the plate, dont be a moron and tell him that he had TWO (as opposed to one) bites so it can not be remade or removed from the check. you are the most pathetic excuse for a restaurant ever. and now hopefully more people will avoid your restaurant like the plague. more

Wonderful! 2/18/2006

I went there for brunch today, and the food was spectacular. The restaurant was crowded, but luckily we didn't have to wait for a table. Croissants were given with our meal and they were fantastic. You definitely have to check this place out! As for the service, we had no problems, and in fact our waitress was very attentive and quick. Pros: Food, Value, Service more

Very Good Food !!! 7/11/2005

I've been to Marquet for Breakfast & Lunch, and last week I stop it by, because I heard that they were serving dinner, so I decided to check out. They changed a little the decoration, the place is full of arts, the walls have paints from different artists, and some are for sale, overall was a very pleasant atmosphere. We order a bottle of Rioja wine, delicious.....For appetizer I order the Pasteis filled with Goat cheese & Toasted Pinenuts...very crispy and light, and for main course I had the Buttenut Squash Risotto with Crisp Duck Confit & Pinot Noir Sauce...Brilliant. Dessert we all had the Famous Bread Pudding with Bananas Flambee, to die for. We're all very pleased. I higly reccomend. And I'll be back Pros: Food, Wine, Desserts Cons: hard to find more

Shockingly bad service and average food 3/18/2005

The food was average for a brunch joint. My girlfriend's omelette was fine if a bit gooey, and my oatmeal was also fine, except that the strawberries that they put on top were not de-stemmed. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but try de-stemming a strawberry in a bowl of oatmeal without using your hands -- it's impossible. The service was utterly abysmal. Our coffee and water were never refilled, our food came out 10 minutes apart (!), we were not given bread though the couple next to us was, we asked twice for our check and when it came, they forced us to pay the tip in cash so they could get out of paying taxes! Needless to say, we are never going back. Cons: Horrible service, Overpriced more

Worst service of my life. 3/14/2005

First, my omelette came to the table. Ten minutes later, my dining partner's meal still wasn't on the table. I took a bite of the omelette. It had the wrong ingredients in it. I sent it back -- and five minutes later, the correct omelette was on the table. Alas, my dining partner's meal still wasn't to be seen (neither was the waitress). We asked about it, and 10 minutes later, his oatmeal showed up. At this point, I asked for a coffee & water refill, too, since our cups had been empty since BEFORE the first omelette made its appearance. Once we'd finished eating, it was another 15 minutes before we saw someone who would bring us the check - and after running my credit card, the waitress had the audacity to write ""cash only"" in the ""tip"" portion of the receipt! Judge for yourselves, but be warned. Cons: service more

Eat (and eat)! 9/30/2002
