I moved from LA to Chicago 16 years ago, and for the first 15 of those years continued to fly back to LA to have my hair cut and colored. (In fairness, I did have business in LA, so it's not quite as crazy as it sounds.) When I left my company 2 years ago, I was finally forced to find a new salon in Chicago, since adding a $400 plane fare to the price of a haircut seemed a bit over the top. I called Marianne Strokirk Salon, after having read an interview with Emma Thompson in the Tribune in which she talked about falling in love with the salon during a movie shoot in Chicago. I figured, if it was good enough for Emma, it was probably good enough for me. I talked to the receptionist at length about how fussy I was about my hair, and she set me up with Kelly for a haircut and Stacy for color. One year later, I can honestly say I wish I'd found these two earlier. Kelly does such an amazing job cutting my hair -- it always looks good, even up until my next haircut. Stacy is also quite talented, coloring my hair in such a way that it isn't obvious to anyone. And they are both absolutely delightful people -- I enjoy the chance to chat with them while having my hair done. I would strongly recommend this salon, and Kelly and Stacy in particular, to anyone who is nervous about their hair. You will not be disappointed!
Pros: Easy to get to; parking in front for only $5; always on time.
Cons: Prices are in line with high-end spas, which are somewhat high.
