Excellent results! 4/1/2009

I went in last week for the Tuesday night ""workshop"" and did not leave disappointed. The skill level of these professionals (they are not students) is high and the cost for the services is low. The apprentices are all beauty school graduates who are in a two-year program before they can get a chair in the salon. $20 is absurdly low but in this economy, it's a great deal for anyone who really cares about their hair but perhaps cannot afford to pay a lot these days. Be prepared to spend at least an hour for a haircut and more for color. A supervisor is present for both the consultation and then reviews the results. Pros: Great skill-set Cons: Receptionist not very friendly more

Better Men's Cut then I ever got in New York or Los Angeles 12/12/2008

Recently moved to Chicago and don't have the greatest hair. My collegues recommended the Marianne Strokirk Salon. First of all, the salon is a great experience and very comfortable, but more importantly I have the best cut I have ever had. Wash it, towel dry it and that's it. That to me is what makes a great haircut. And besides, it must be great. People ask me where I get my hair cut. You won't find better. Pros: Easy, convenient, comfortable, everything and everybody reflects the great sense of style more

Great haircolor stylists!! 12/5/2008

Went here for a fresh ""new"" look...and I got it!! Received lots of compliments on my still blonde, but very updated look. If you want a great color job that's right up to the minute (helps to keep you youthful looking AND current)--ask for Shelly!! Pros: Superb stylists more

Great for Speical Occasions 11/13/2008

Toni was wonderful with updos for a wedding or special event. Super patient, would not let me or any Pros: great styles Cons: pricy more

Marianne Strokirk is the best by far!! 11/11/2008

I started going to Marianne Strokirk on the recommendation of a close friend when I moved to Chicago ten years ago. I've been going there ever since! Kelly is an excellent stylist and I love the way she cuts and styles my hair. The service is great, the salon is ""trendy"", and Kelly has become a friend. I would highly recommend this Salon!! Pros: Friendly, Helpful more

Expert haircolorist - John Castro 11/9/2008

I've been going to John Castro for many years for haircolor and highly recommend him. Before finding him I was letting my stylist cut and color my hair and my color did not look natural or healthy. I also like that I can dry my hair myself which helps with expenses. He is an expert on color and is constantly updating his skills. Trust him. The salon itself is very nice and in a good location for city dwellers like myself. more

Best Salon in the City 11/7/2008

Hands down, the best salon in Chicago. The staff is incredibly friendly and the stylists are top notch. Always a pleasant and relaxing experience. The personal attention is unparalleled. I highly recommend Marianne Strokirk Salon to anyone who is looking for THE place to go for his or her salon needs. Truly the best around! Pros: Professional and Friendly Staff more

Best haircut and color 11/7/2008

My coworker got her haircut here, and she looked great. I heard her get tons of compliments, so I decided to try it myself. I've never been happier with my hair cut or color, and I've never received more compliments on my hair. It's more expensive, but it's worth it. Pros: Service, Quality Cons: Expensive more

Best Haircut 11/6/2008

I've been going there for 10 years. Best haircut i've ever got but i only go to Tracy Kuchar so i'd recommend her.\r Pros: Quality place Cons: expensive more

Highly trained staff, consistently good service, well worth the price. 11/6/2008

I've been a client at Marianne Strokirk Salon for over 10 years. Several times during those years, I tried other salons for either color or cuts thinking I could save a little money. The adage ""you get what you pay for"" is true in this case. I was never satisfied anywhere else and usually went back to Strokirk to get fixed what another salon screwed up. I will never go anywhere else again. The staff at Marianne Strokirk is knowledgable of the latest trends and products for color and style. My haircolor is so perfect that no one knows I have any gray and Marianne makes sure my style is current but appropriate for my face and lifestyle. Last summer, I had my hair straightened with the new keratin process. It was wonderful and performed well all summer. Pros: Easy to park, prompt service, high quality products Cons: Expensive, long lead time for appointments with certain stylists more

Maximize your image with a GREAT hair cut 11/6/2008

\r Marianne Strokirk has done a remarkable job of matching my look to my personal style and professional image. Marianne provides me with a distinctive look and positive first impression. She has helped me in the success of my business, providing me a style that works in the aesthetic design world. Over fourteen years, she has changed my hair style from extremely short to very long and everything in between. All of the looks have worked... I have been asked by people in other cities if Marianne Strokirk cuts my hair... her excellence is recognized by many, even outside the beauty industry... I have enjoyed innumerable compliments on her work for a long time... \r Marianne and the members of her staff help you to look and feel your best. They make you feel comfortable and welcome. I encourage my friends and family to go to the Marianne Strokirk Salon, as well. We never looked so good!\r Georgy Olivieri, GO Initiatives more

A Great Haircut Guaranteed 11/4/2008

I started going to Marianne Strokirk on the recommendation of a family member when I had just just gotten a horrible haircut from a different salon. Not only did Jodi salvage my hair, but she gave a fantastic new cut that I kept for years. I trust no one else with my hair. The service is great. Always receive an excellent head massage, a great blow-dry, and while it's an upscale place, it is not an intimidating setting. It's convenient to get to both off 94 and off the El. Pros: Quality, Convenience Cons: Expensive more

I started going there when my old barber died and the new one gave me such a bad haircut that my wife cried when she saw it. I always look so good when I walk out of there, and my hair stays nice for quite a while. Sandy really understands what I like, and I can't even imagine going elsewhere now. It is not cheap, but it doesn't look cheap, either. It's a great style, and worth every penny. Pros: wonderful cut - wonderful people more

Hands Down the best salon in the city 11/3/2008

I just got a cut with Marianne. She's hands down the best. I've tried a number of times to find someone else a little lesser in price but I just can't find the quality. My cut literally looks good for months. \r \r I go to John for color and I love when I walk out of there. I don't look ""suburban blond"" it's just my own color but better, not an imitation of anyone else, so it's very personalized. \r \r Pros: Quality is worth it Cons: Expensive more

Wish I'd discovered this sooner! 11/3/2008

I moved from LA to Chicago 16 years ago, and for the first 15 of those years continued to fly back to LA to have my hair cut and colored. (In fairness, I did have business in LA, so it's not quite as crazy as it sounds.) When I left my company 2 years ago, I was finally forced to find a new salon in Chicago, since adding a $400 plane fare to the price of a haircut seemed a bit over the top. I called Marianne Strokirk Salon, after having read an interview with Emma Thompson in the Tribune in which she talked about falling in love with the salon during a movie shoot in Chicago. I figured, if it was good enough for Emma, it was probably good enough for me. I talked to the receptionist at length about how fussy I was about my hair, and she set me up with Kelly for a haircut and Stacy for color. One year later, I can honestly say I wish I'd found these two earlier. Kelly does such an amazing job cutting my hair -- it always looks good, even up until my next haircut. Stacy is also quite talented, coloring my hair in such a way that it isn't obvious to anyone. And they are both absolutely delightful people -- I enjoy the chance to chat with them while having my hair done. I would strongly recommend this salon, and Kelly and Stacy in particular, to anyone who is nervous about their hair. You will not be disappointed! Pros: Easy to get to; parking in front for only $5; always on time. Cons: Prices are in line with high-end spas, which are somewhat high. more

The best haircut ever! 11/2/2008

I have been going to Strokirk's for over 10 years, and have NEVER been disappointed! Pat is a wonderful hairstylist and Stacy is a fantastic colorist. I am often stopped by strangers to ask where I get my haircut, and am always proud to recommend Marianne Strokirk's salon! Pros: Parking is quick and easy more

I have been going to Marianne Strokirk Salon so long I can't even remember when I started there. It is over ten years, for sure. I feel like family there now. For years, I had a terrible time with my hair looking stringy and limp and thin. As soon as Sandy cut it, I found out I had a nice head of hair, easy to manage. I get constant compliments on my haircut. It is my one extravangance. I cut out all sorts of other things when times are tough, but NEVER my haircut at Marianne Strokirk. It is truly a necessity now because it keeps me looking and feeling great. more

Great Salon 10/31/2008

Marianne Strokirk has a beautiful, light-filled salon on Chestnut and Orleans. I have unruly, curly hair and I have definitely been satisfied by their expert stylists and great customer service. Believe me, I have shopped around! I would like to especially mention Monica for color, Toni for cut, and Ganka for luxurious manicures and pedicures. Also, if you come on a Saturday, you can munch on almond croissants and sip gourmet coffee while you are waiting for your color to develop. Pros: Great customer service; experienced staff; friendly, noncompetitive atmosphere Cons: Nail services are a little pricey. more
