62 days ago we visited Manor Care looking for a facility to care for my 79 year old father who had suffered a fall and spent 10 days recuperating in the hospital. The only way he would make it back home was if he got serious physical therapy from a qualified facility. I felt as if the weight of the world was on my shoulders since it was up to me to visit facilities and pick one........a responsibility that no child ever wants. I went to Manor Care and gave them the third degree, especially in light of the negative comments I had seen on the internet.
I took their tour, talked to the admissions staff, the chief physical therapist, several of the therapists and one or two of the patients I saw in the hallways. Dad stayed there 60 days.....much longer than anticipated. They cared for his many medical needs while putting him through as much physical therapy as he could stand. I spent 10 hours a day with him over the first week watching for anything that wasn't up to what we needed/expected before I had to return home on the east coast. My mother was with him every day over the next 7 weeks.
Bottom line: these guys are good! He got around the clock care from people who really care.........from the nurses and therapists to the nutritionist who did everything possible to satisfy his meal requests. I trusted my dad to them and they brought him back from the brink. I can't speak about hospice or assisted living care there..........but if you're after therapy for someone who is coming back home, Manor Care met our every expectation. I don't remember enough of the names, but I will always remember what Claudio, Ed, "GlitzyRN", Marilee and the rest of the staff did for us. Robert Bohn Jr.
