Editorial review from GrubHub 9/20/2013

Word of caution - VERY spicy! Medium is equivalent to spicy; mild is equivalent to spicy. I don't even want to know what Hot means. The samosas were superb, rice was delicious, my partner adored the chicken tikka masala, the aloo gobi and the chicken naan were only so-so, aloo paratha and cheese naan were delicious, as was their regular naan. more

Delivered earlier than expected and medium spicy is spicy for me. The tofu one is good but I don't like the lentil one cooked with ginger. more

Best samosas, sauces, naans, appetizers, vindaloos, masalas, and curries; in fact, everything I have had here are excellent. Nice blend of Northern and southern dishes. Dishes are perfectly layered with complex spices and flavors. You can tell that the ingredients used are really fresh and generously combined. I had Manas catered at my house warming party and Holiday party because my husband is English and absolutely loves the food from Manas. Service was excellent. The food was elegantly packed, still piping hot on arrival, ready to be served, and my guests are still talking about the food the week after. Nicer still is that the total cost was about half of most other Indian restaurants. I loved the fact that they are generous in their portions so that I was not stressed over having enough foof for all my guests. more

Just horrible 11/18/2011

They were good when they started but now they are just horrible! I will never go back again. I took some friends and the food was so spicy that they started coughing. I went there again one night around 9 pm and asked for Masala Dosa. They put the stuffing from samosa inside the doas. I being an Indian can easily figure it out. just unacceptabel guy. Stop going there. Try places in Artesia or the new place Mayura on Jefferson/Vermont. Their food is amazing but lil pricy...anway Manas sucks... more

Manas management stands by while customer is accosted 4/15/2011

I live near Manas and have eaten there many times. Today, I stopped in for lunch and a black man gave me a compliment. I thanked him and told him he was ""a class act"" A Russian woman standing near us at the buffet apparently thought that was an insult meaning he has NO class. She followed me to my table, yelling at me, calling me a racist (I'm white) cussing at me, telling me to get the F out, picking my keys up from the table and throwing them at me, and finally SPITTING ON ME. Management stood there doing absolutely nothing. While I support local businesses and have enjoyed the food at Manas many times, even using them for dinner parties, I felt afraid, maligned and completely on my own as six members of the staff (including the husband and wife owners) stood around watching while a repeat customer was verbally attacked by a clearly mentally disturbed woman. Shame on Manas. Shame, shame, shame. more

Excellent Indian Food 8/11/2010

I learned about Manas by accident while cruisng L. A., streets to look at the wonderful classic architecture. My wife, son, and grandson went yesterday. The owner was an excellent host. We explained we'd like to try the buffet but our grandson wouldn't eat anything as he's still a pb and j kid. The host said he could try anything he wanted for free this time (he chose not to, but I neve atge inidan food until in my forties). Let me say that my wife and I are world travelers; we've eaten at Indian restaurants alll over including the famous Banana Leaf Apollow in Singapore. Manas beats them all. The price is great, the food excellent with a wide variety and fantastic chutnies, including mint, cocoanut and tamarind. Altogether, a wonderful experience and no tummy ache afterward, although some of the chutnies will burn a bit. more

Really bad attitude.. 2/11/2010

Been there a couple of times since it's the only (or used to be) Indian restaurant around USC. Food is average, but the turn off i the attitude of the lady who runs the place. Really arrogant. Once when I tried to give feedback she got really annoyed at me. It was disgusting. Pros: Ok food Cons: Bad service, the lady (owners's wife!) is very rude.. more

Great place for Authentic Indian Food 1/23/2010

Nice place for buffet lunch. Neat & clean.\r \r I had been to a number of Indian restaurants in and around Los Angeles. But this one was really cool.\r \r One would find a good number of non-Indians in the restaurant which speaks well for its popularity.\r \r I strongly recommed this restaurant for all Indian food lovers. Pros: Pros :Good variety to suit all tastes, good value for money Cons: Cons : None more

Poor service, bad hospitality 12/5/2009

I used to like the restaurant and it's adjacent grocery store but of late, the food quality has drastically deteriorated. The lady (owner's wife) is rude and ill-mannered. The waiter at the restaurant is inconsiderate. I went for lunch with eight of my work colleagues and booked a table for us. As, we went to get ourselves lunch from the buffet, our table was given away to other customers. On complaining, we were told that since we were only having food from the buffet, we did not necessarily have to sit as a group. On another day, the same lady spoke rudely at the canshier conter. Since then, I have stopped going to this place. I may as well pay a little more and be treated well. Cons: pathetic service, quality of food has deteriorated more

Best Restaurant Around USC 4/27/2009

Manas is definitely my favorite restaurant around USC. The lady who owns the restaurant is soooo sweet and she treats every customer like one of her children! Plus, the food is fantastic! Every time my friends visit me they make sure we eat at Manas. I recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone :) Pros: Delicious food! Cons: If you get the male waiter, he doesn't know what he's doing. more
