Wonderful place to take your child!

Good: It was fun and spacious. However half the games were broken and just took tokens.. Bad: My daughter fell through a poorly positioned hole in the play area. It leads to a fir...

This is a neat place! 5/1/2010

We were in AZ two Christmas's ago. We went to Makutu's Island the day before we left. It is so much fun! I saw even old people enjoying themselves there, going down the slides and stuff. I tried to email Makutu's Island and ask them to build one in St. Louis, MO or Springfield, MO, but couldn't find a way to email them. That would do so well in one of those places. I would definitely go at least once a month! more

Regarding "Thiefs" review 9/7/2009

To the person who did the 7/22/2009 review entitled "Thiefs". I hope I got to you in time. Go immediately to your bank about this. Don't deal with a local manager if it is BofA. Call the customer service line. If you haven't gotten the money back yet, go to the fraud division. If you have gotten the $ back but the bank is not reversing the bounce check fees, send Makutus a request for reimbursement for the fees in writing. They have insurance for errors like this. Also, go to the customer service line at your bank and point out the overdraft fees and, if you did receive the overcharge credit from Makutus, show them how they tie together. Note that you ONLY have 60 days to do this at the bank, which means appx. 9/22, so act quickly. Of course, you have every right to take them to Small Claims Court, but I'd try to handle it without that if you can. Good luck. Hope that helps. more

Thiefs! 7/22/2009

On July 3rd we had a small birthday party for my 3 year old son Zander. We had 7 children total attending the party, 4 of which were Zander's siblings. I booked the party over the phone, and gave my credit card number for a deposit. On the day of the party we showed up and had a good time. I felt that the party was overpriced, but that the fun my children had was worth it. After we ate our party planner asked me to come up front and pay. I followed her up and she retrieved my file, then went and got a co-worker to look at it with her. After a few minutes they came back and said that the deposit had never been charged to my credit card, and they would need to swipe my credit card. I told them that I didn't carry a credit card, but gave them my debit card instead, with the understanding that I would pay cash for the entire bill of $205.12. They swiped my credit card and asked me to sign, which I did, and then I gave them the cash. I thought all was good until the next week when my debit card was declined for a fuel purchase. I checked into it, and Makutu's Island had charged my card in addition to taking my cash. I called them and spoke with management, during which time they took 4 days to check into the issue. Finally on Wednesday, July 22 they called me and said that unfortunately their employees had no idea what I was talking about, and they would be unable to fix any charges. I have incurred over $250 in bounced check fees due to this error. I asked the manager if I could bring in my bank statements to show that I do not go around bouncing checks... or if they had a camera on the register, or why I could remember receiving change if I had not paid in cash, but she was very uncaring and blew me off. This mistake, or theft, whichever it may be has turned my life upside down. I simply do not have over $500 to cover the mistake when I already paid $200 for the party! This in an event I will be sure to remember when anybody invites me to this establishment again. Please help! more

My daughter was hurt at Makutu's Island 5/17/2009

Good: It was fun and spacious. However half the games were broken and just took tokens.. Bad: My daughter fell through a poorly positioned hole in the play area. It leads to a fireman type spiral pole. The hole is to climb down but there us no lip or edge. My 6 year old was not looking and fell right through. Some older kids were running and pushing through and when she stepped around them she stepped right through that hole about 7 feet to the floor. She is in a lot of pain and her back and chest hurts. All they did was take a report and toss the clipboard in a drawer.. Improvements: Better supervision and planning for younger children. That area in the tree is not safe.. more

AWESOME! 5/16/2009

its awesome and clean and very very nice i give it an A++++ more

Worst place to go. Never go here 5/10/2009

I would say this is the worst place to go. Never go to this place. The manager or the supervisor is the rudest person that you will ever meet. No business skills or customer focus. Just an moron. Dont ever go to this place. I would definitely avoid going to this place. more

Wow, Just WOW! 6/30/2008

I went to this place about a year ago and I felt like i had a medicore experience. but my kids loved the place so much i felt like we would give it one more try and let me tell im very very VERY happy we did. All the emloyies were very helpful and nice to my 6 year old Cody. The last time I went they had a lot of broken games but now they have ALL NEW GAMES that were very fun and easy for the kids to play. I'd be lieing if i said i didnt play the games myself, expesially the jumping jackpot! My husband and I will definitely be going there a lot more this summer. It is a safe fun place, expecially in Arizona with all the summer heat. more

Makutu's Island 6/30/2008

Just Recently vistied it with the family and all i can say was it was the one so much fun for the children. It makes me feel safe about bringing my children and letting them play partially because of their security system They use wrist bands, which are given to families. Not only that but they just got brand new video games for the children. Best time ever, i highly recomend it, and they do have a cafe that has exceptional food. more

Won't be going back 2/27/2008

A couple friends and I decided to meet at Makutus for the day with our preschool and under aged children. Upon arriving, the greater was not very nice, and didn't speak English very well, or explain the options for entrance at all. I never would have known there was a lunch special, which allows you admittance and lunch for 2 people for just 4 dollars more than the regular entrance fee. The lunch special, includes 4 tokens, which we were not given, and when we asked about it, the greeter/cashier said, "i didnt know" and turned and walked away. We played for a while, then decided to have lunch. The lady in the cafe didn't speak English either, and for the 3 of us adults to place our orders( we each had one child and one adult meal) took about 20 minutes. Then we had to ASK to get our complete order. It was very frustrating. When a friend asked if it was always like this, to the manager, he said yes... Since he admitted it is always disorganized, with non-English speaking customer service workers. i have decided I will never go back Not to mention the choice of music in this children's entertainment place. Brittney Spears "slave" was playing. We decided next time it will be Mcdonalds or Amazing Jakes for a day of fun with our children! more

fun but not so fair 8/12/2007

I recently had my son's birthday party at Makutu's Island. I was overcharged for the amount of adults I had over the party package, My son did not get the gift promised in the party package. None of my guest's received their party bags on their way out as promised in the party package and not all the children in my party received their tokens as promised. I have made several attempts to contact management at Makutu's Island and have only received one call back, which I missed. My kids love this place and I think, pocket book aside, it is enjoyable. more

Giant indoor playground 4/12/2006

Makutus Island is a family fun center that resembles a giant rainforest. Right when you walk in, there is a huge tree in the middle that has several tubular slides and tunnels. The main tree is surrounded by a lot of other play areas that all connect to the main tree by suspended netted tunnels. There are also nets, stairs, bridges and a zip line. There is a toddler section but it is small and could use improvement. There are three small slides and a small room with large soft blocks and tunnel. I think they could have done a little more in this area, but my daughter still had fun. more

Wonderful place for a kids party! 9/21/2005

My niece had been talking about coming here for her 4th birthday party for the last 6 months. She was so excited. I expected it to be like Chucke Cheese or one of those places but it was pretty cool. The prices were pretty good - and both adults and kids can play on the big tree or in the lagoon. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and I don't think the parents had to break the bank or anything either. more

Great family fun 8/18/2005

We recently had a birthday party at Makutus Island in chandler. Let me tell you this place is fun for the whole family. They have numerous slides, and tunnels that even adults can crawl through. Everyone had fun. The party was in a room in the back where Makutu himself came to visit the birthday boy. There is a small resturant inside, and also an arcade. The only drawback to this place is it was very warm inside.. even at 6pm on tuesday. So Id suggest going during the winter. Price is reasonable, around $6 per kid, half that for adults. Dont forget the socks! more

A family Fun Center 8/18/2005

This is a Great play land for the Adventurous child. With tunnels and tubes and slides as far as the eye can see. There is a Zip line, the banana slide, Flintstone house with fish tank and waterfall, and so much more. The toddler area (for kids 3 and under) is a small area to climb and slide and soft GIANT building blocks for kids to build with and crawl on. The only downside to this toddler area is that no one is really watching the age of children who are in there so sometimes you have to confront older children who are playing rough. For the non adventurous types there is a decent sized arcade for kids and adults. The prizes are somewhat decent also. There is also a Dance studio where you will learn the hula and leave with your own lea. Parties here are ok where each child get s a small bag of tokens and is set off to play for 1 hr. then they are announced over the intercom and ushered into the eating area. There 2 hosts will play games and serve food and drinks. Since they DO NOT allow outside cakes they serve their own which is good but I consider that a negative. To get the most bang for your buck be prepared to stay for a few hours. Kids 1-18 are $7 and Adults 18 and over are $3. And if you forget your socks they sell theirs for $3 a pair. more

great but tiring 8/4/2005

This is the best fun my kids have had in a while. It is a huge indoor playground that is truely amazing. Both the kids and adults will have a blast. Yes, they let the parents play too. There is a fantasy tree and oscars lagoon, or you can go play in the pirates den. There is plenty of parking and the prices are very good for the amount of fun you have. This is a day that the kids won't forget. more

Fun for Kids 8/4/2005

My daughter loves this place. Some of our friends have done birthday parties there and were all very happy with both the price & the parties themselves. It's a big indoor playground for kids with bright colours and climbing structures and cartoon like props. The only drawback is your kids will drive you nuts to go back again. more

Paradise for six year olds 8/3/2005

Makutu's Island is like a giant human habitrail. There are tubes, slides and cargo nets everywhere for kids to climb on. Children smaller than 3 have a special area that is very small and not too entertaining. If you are not comfortable letting your child explore the tubes and nets on their own, be prepared for the worst... for most adults it is claustrophobic and smells strongly of little sweaty feet. Bring your own socks and a bottle of water. The food is overpriced and not too good, so eat before you come. more
