...just like honey 2/16/2011

when you walk in, you swear you saw a hefty mohandas ghandi and indira ghandi off to the side, watching their television. the wafts of curry and ""delicate"" spices lure you to the buffet, where you pick up your plate. the food is good, and I have been trying to figure out how they make their mattar paneer so damn good. if you forego the utensils and eat the indian way, that is, without the utensils, then you will see that the proprieters are kind indeed. the food is like candy, so sweet and good for you. you usually see no one...which is the way i like it. i heard that the nasally dr.winer dines there, but if he does, he is getting it from me, becuase he has been advertising another indian place which is nowhere near as good as this place;aptly named, as the man in charge is kingly. oh, and by the way, tell mohar i said hi. more

fresh buffet but rude staff 12/13/2009

We go to Maharaja several times a month because we love the chicken curry, samosas, and naan. The staff there have NEVER been friendly. As a matter of fact, they look at you like you're something they just stepped in....but the food is good and the choices are great. The rice dessert is out of this world and you can get unlimited chai tea. The garlic naan is the best, it's less like a pancake than the plan naan. Pros: chicken curry Cons: outdated decor, dark, looks dirty more

Always a treat! 12/11/2007

My family and I have eaten at Maharaja numerous times whenever we're in the area and stop there every trip that we make several times a year. The food is perfectly seasoned, not too hot but still having a bit of a kick, and the choices are plentiful. Veg or non-veg, there's a variety for everyone. We even get take-out to bring home! The price is more than reasonable and, despite what was said in a previous review, we have never had anything but courteous treatment while there. On occasion, one or two of the trays have been empty and we've had to wait a few minutes while it was refilled, but that's the nature of any buffet. In the meantime, with about 20 feet of food selections to choose from, you certainly won't starve in those few moments! more

Food is better than average, service is fine. 2/28/2007

Service is fine. Food is better than average. I've eaten at Maharaja at least ten times a year every year since 1996. Their service is fine. It is, after all, primarily a buffet, so not as much service is needed. The food is good and the variety even better. Compared to the other Indian Restaurants in Pittsburgh, Maharaja is better than average. For the price, it's a great deal. The other review saying the service is the ""worst"" doesn't add up. Sounds like someone was having a bad day or just enjoys whining. Pros: Variety, price. As good or better than other Indian Restaurants in Pittsburgh Cons: Some dishes are too oily for my taste/heart more

Worst service ever ! Stay away ! 1/27/2007

We went there on someone's recommendation that food is good. Food is ok,nothing great, infact some things were stale. Their service is HORRIBLE. The waiter/manager/cook (yes one person was doing everything) was outright rude from the beginning. They have buffet on weekends, had to wait for 10-15 mins for stuff to get refilled. Soda was bland (free fountain with buffet, no wonder). I had some questions at the end, didnt get a single straightforward reply that was even polite. I asked for the 'manager' , some guy came out who was equaly rude and not bothered at all. I didnt argue , just paid and left . Stay away from this horrendous place. There are few other 'indian' restaurants nearby which offer far better service and equal if not better quality food. Pros: Parking free Cons: Horrible Service, food stale more
