Being italian AND from a major Italian city (Chicago), I still fail to see the real greatness of Maggiano's food. It's family style, the portions are big, and the vibe is always g...

good food, mediocre service 3/13/2007

My friends and I came to Maggiano's on Valentine's Day, because I've heard good things about it in the past and it was probably one of the only places that took reservations that night. When we got there, we were disappointed in that though we had reservations at 9:00pm, we still had to wait an extra 30-40 minutes. Plus, our waiter never really checked up on us except to get our orders and to give us our dishes. Granted it was one of the busiest days of the year, we expected better service. Though, I have to give it to them that their dishes were pretty amazing and hefty for decent prices. And if you're getting dessert, get their tiramisu and creme brulee~ Pros: dishes, ambience Cons: service more

Successful Bridal Shower 2/20/2007

I recently just gave my best friend a bridal shower. I have to say it was a pleasure working with the event coordinator. We had a family style event. On the day of the shower thestaff was great, organized and ready to start serving. Everything was perfect the food, the service and I am so happy we went with Maggiano's for $25 a person. You get so much for the money more

Great food, good service, so-so ambiance 1/31/2007

This is a good restaurant with a super huge wait. It's worth it if you only go once in a while. The service is good. more

LA's best happy hour, patio dining & banquet facility! 1/6/2007

Farmers Market - Maggiano's -- LA's BEST Happy Hour! Featuring LIVE Jazz, a hip industry crowd, and heavily discounted food and drink (with appetizers @ $2.95 and most drinks under $5.00) Monday - Friday 4pm-6:30pm. And dinner at Maggiano's is unsurpassed in terms of cuisine, atmosphere, and service. To dine al fresco on the magnificent (heated) patio is THE definition of indulgence for every single one of your senses. And don't even get us started about the endless merits of the scrumptous Beef Medallions and Veal and Mushroom Ravioli! Also make sure to try the Zucchini Fritte (best I ever had), 4 Cheese Ravioli, Stuffed Chicken Fontina, Chopped Salad (sub chopped spinach & add grilled shrimp for an extra special trea), and the Crab Cakes (world's best!) ... Maggiano's also specializes in FAMILY STYLE DINING (aka: 'The Unstoppable Italian Feast') and carry out/catering -- and they have a world class Banquet facility for special events and private dining ... (located at 189 The Grove Drive between 3rd and Beverly on Fairfax). Pros: Family Style Dining, Reservations Accepted, Private Dining for special events more

Just awful customer service... 12/28/2006

Had a great experience at Maggiano's before, but no such luck this time. Brought my wife to have a drink at the bar...slow service...the bartender did not look us in the eye, much less ask us if we would like anything else to drink. When we were seated for dinner, saw our waiter ONLY ONCE the whole evening and waited 25 minutes with no service, no water, no bread...After asking every staff member that we saw, ""Where is our waiter?"" Some poor soul took pity on us, and took our order. And this was on a slow day. Pros: food is good Cons: Horrible service, poor management more

Decent Italian in a fancy setting 11/15/2006

There are a few different fancy restaurants at the Grove and this has been my favorite so far. The food's pretty good but the atmosphere is terrific! I've been here for private parties as well as intimate dinners and it's been great all the way around. I like their desserts and their pastas are tasty. more

Best Tramisu! 9/14/2006

It is a very romantic place for couples, or a group of friend to hangout and have some great food. They have very good food, food are not expensive, if you love to enjoy a glass of good red wine, that is the place for you, and their deserts are very delisious. Service are very good, if you are the first time there, they will recommend good food to you. i will defintely go back soon and bring more friends there! oh if you are a tiramisu fans, or you love sugar, tiramisu is your best choice! try it, you wont regret! Pros: Good place to eat and relax! Cons: You dont have to wait for a seat during week days, which is good! more

Highly Overrated! 7/26/2006

Maggianos is highly overrated. I would rather spend $36 at Houstons and get myself prime rib and a couple of drinks! Pros: Atmosphere, Good for Groups, All you can Eat Cons: mediocre entrees. more

Love it and dearly miss it! 5/18/2006

I used to live in LA and just visited this restaurant again while visiting the area. I still like this place! The location is great, the food is authentic (I lived in Italy for a year), and the decor of the restaurant makes it fun and comfortable. I'd recommend it without hesitation! Pros: Delicious food, atmosphere Cons: Ocassional waiting more

Great for a date! 4/9/2006

I disagree with the other reviewers who claim that this place is overrated. Maggiano's has fantastic atmosphere and quality, especially for the price. Portions are generous, which is surprising since it does not result in a decrease in quality or taste. I HIGHLY recommend the chopped salad, Chicken Saltimbocca, and Rigatoni D with chicken and mushroom marsala sauce. I would pick Maggiano's over Bucca Di Beppo, The Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill, or any other ""Italian"" chain ANY day. The wait is well worth it. For longer wait times, grab a drink at the bar and enjoy live music, or go for a nice nighttime stroll in The Grove. The atmosphere is very sensuous, calming, and inviting. Pros: GREAT atmosphere, Delicious food, Prompt & helpful staf Cons: Wait time for dinner more

reservations are a must for weekends! 4/7/2005

the location is nice but i dont know why the place gets so packed. go with a large group to enjoy the family-style portions. the food is not spectacular but its not bad either. if you absolutely cannot make reservations, grab a seat at the bar and munch on an appetizer to make the wait (id say an hour to 90 mins on weekends) go faster or ask the host for an approximate time and go for a stroll in farmer's market or the grove. Pros: location, standard italian food Cons: crowded, overrated more

Great place for groups 3/13/2005

This is a decent italian restaurant for large groups. Much better than its competitor in terms of authenticity. Dishes are mostly family style. Because of the family focus, it gets pretty crowded - so reservations are recommended. more

OVERRATED POOR QUALITY!!! 2/26/2005

DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS OVERRATED PLACE...POOR QUALITY SO CALLED ITALIAN FOOD...VERY POOR SERVICE...OVER PRICED... Cons: POOR QUALITY FOOD, POOR SERVICE, OVERRATED more

nothing special 6/7/2004

I've been there twice and the food is not that great. It's a chain restaurant with family style portion. Maybe that's why it's not so great. The pasta we had no taste. The salad is a typical green with italian dressing. I don't really think it's worth the price. Maybe if you go with a lot of people it's o.k. but i dont think you should expect much from the food Pros: location, cosy, good for parties Cons: , food not great more

Dave Corsaro 4/7/2004

Having been raised on real Italian food, this comes the closest to the taste I'm most familiar. The only problems I see are that there are a few things on the menu that no real Italian restaurant would ever have and . . . there were a couple of great things they had they took off. The stuffed artechokes were fantastic. Maggiano's says they were just too seasonal. The reality is I don't think many people knew how great they were and there weren't enough orders to keep them going. more

iT MAY NOT BE AUTHENTIC, BUT IT'S GREAT 3/16/2004

After reading all these bad reviews, I have to say, I have never had a bad meal there, and I go there a lot since I live in the neighborhood. They DO serve PIZZA, and they DO serve fettuccine ALFREDO, b/c I've had both, and they are great! The value is great, you get so much for your money, and the staff has always been pleasant & attentive. The patio makes you feel like you are light years away from Los Angeles. I spent the summer in Italy, and although it may be Americanized- Italian cuisine, it's still great. I highly recommend it! Pros: awesome patio, excellent fettuccine, great service more

Maggiano So-So 2/9/2004

Seizing upon a few decade's worth of other's historicity and patina and translating it into a limited chain of an Italian restaurant, Maggiano's Little Italy is certainly pleasing to the eye, the decor out of the 40's, the ambiance elegant and refined. It is expensive, and the food standardized to meet the requirements of credit-packing Americana. I dined on a portobello mushroom sandwich, the bread thick, but soggy with mayonnaise, obsuring the flavor of the mushroom. The side dish of cross-cut fries seemed slightly oily, much like the attitude of the server attempting to steer me via quasi-concerned recommendations to expensive chianti. The desserts here save, but only to the point of average. Pros: Desserts, Wine List Cons: , Tricky parking, Standardized recipes more

THIS IS NOT ITALIAN FOOD! 11/24/2003

Just because the name is Italian, and the word Italy is in the title, does not make it Italian food! Italian food is red, white and green, like the Italian flag. If you want a steak, some wine, bump into a few celebs then this is the place. If you want pizza and pasta, you're crap out of luck, because they don't serve Pizza and they don't serve Alfredo. Oh yeah, bring a LOT of money, cause this is one expensive restaurant! more
