Fantastic food and service 5/30/2011

I go to Madras Pavillion often, and I take guests. It is clean and has good atmosphere. The service has always been excellent (I'm surprised to see the negative service review! That has never been my experience.) My parents have studied culenary arts in India and I'm used to great Indian food- I think the food at MP is very good. I don't usually eat from the buffet, as I just don't like buffets in general, but the one time I tried it, it was good. I like the dhosas. I LOVE the samosas- I've taken them to parties and fundraisers and they always get compliments and disappear as fast as I can put them up. more

Worst Indian food I've ever eaten 9/30/2009

Chicken Tikka had chicken that was hard throughout, curries tasted like they were from an instant pouch. There was a cauliflower dish that was fried and sickeningly sweet, sort of like bad Chinese food. The curries also seemed to be thickened with cornstarch. The dosa was passable, but still the worst dosa I've had. Also, chapatis were cold and chewy. Cons: Everything more

Horrible Customer Service 4/27/2009

Watch out guys...this Indian restaurant!!! horrible service for customers.Management is worst. They need some training how to talk with customer.First time went Indian Restaurant 2 months back and manager suggested and ordered puri (puffed bread) it was in color yellow and some black spots on that. It looks over fried in oil. I hate the food he given. The person i talked is horrible guy..He is having attitude problem.Think about this....I don't recommend this restaurant . Cons: Bad customer service, Food worst more

One of the better Indian restaurant in SA 12/13/2008

I have been to pretty much all the Indian restaurants in SA and this one is the best in terms of food. The food is little spicier compared to the other places but it is more authentic. Most of the Indian restaurants in US have americanized the food so people are used to less spicy/creamy versions. They have good selection of South Indian food as well as Veg options. I found that there Veg food is much better than the non-veg. Try the lunch buffet which will give you a better idea of the food. I would recommend there Dosa's they have a huge selection. Pros: Good food more

Food laced with baking soda 6/29/2008

Watch it folks, one of the worst Indian restaurants I have been to. I have had food here 5 times in 18 months thinking the last experience may have been a fluke. But they are very consistant in providing food that you will hardly eat. The food tastes real good, but thats where everything stops. The food is laced with baking soda so that when you eat some you feel so bloated and drink so much water. later in the day you feel sick in the stomach. I have had ala-carte for dinner once which was not as bad. But be careful to order food that may not be part of the the day buffet. Never again will I go there. Pros: Food has a good blen of spices Cons: Laced with baking soda more

Big disappointment! 6/13/2007

My wife and I have lived in India and we've lived in cities with several varieties and choices of Indian restaurants; and feel we know a little about good Indian cuisine. Being relatively new to San Antonio, we've tried out and have found our regular Indian restaurants. We were excited when the Madras Pavillion opened. Our visit was pleasant - the food was tasty. Although a little spicy (hot spice) for my wife, she enjoyed the masala dosas. She is vegetarian and is picky about how the vegetarian dishes are presented in the buffet. She is also very picky about the chai tea. We developed a nice relationship with the manager. Cons: Food, staff, presentation, hygiene are horrible more

Great Indian food in a nice clean restaurant. 2/17/2007

I was a little worried when I read the other reviews. Fortunately, I like to make up my own mind. I went today with my son. We had the dinner for two. We loved every course. It was just as good as any other Indian food I have been served in San Antonio and MUCH better than anything I've had in either of the Fredericksburg Road restaurants. In fact, I had to wonder if maybe the bad reviews didn't come from the competition. Madras Pavillion is in the old Fratellis site. They remodeled it, cleaned it, and furnished it very nicely. Give it a try. You will love it. more

Bad Indian food 11/23/2006

We brought our friends who wanted to enjoy some delicious South Indian food to this restaurant. But the food was horrible. The sambar vadai was bad beyond description. The chutneys provided for the dosais were sweet! Only good thing is that we told the waiters that we wanted to cancel another plate of sambar vadai as it tasted bad, and they agreed. In fact, they removed both plates of the vadai from our receipt, even though we had already tasted one plate. Customer service is fine, but the food was bad. We will never go there again. Pros: Good service Cons: HORRIBLE food! more

Delicious 10/9/2006

I completely disagree with the other reviews. I'm Indian too and have been to Madras Pavilion in San Antonio at least 15 times. The food is delicious and the service is fine. I highly recommend this restaurant, I'm addicted to it! Pros: Excellent food, decent price Cons: No dinner buffet more

bad food and worst service and a big bill. 8/24/2006

I had tried madras pavilion in San Antonio five times with my friends. Being an Indian I can tell very easily that food served is cooked at least three days before. I went to Houston madras pavilion; food is great and service is great too. more

not recommended 7/8/2006

This is probably the worst indian food I have had in the one year I have been here. The food is cold, breads dry and tough to eat and above all its highly priced. The service was decent but it definitely gives authentic indian food a very bad image. The madras pavilions in austin, houston and dallas are very good but definitely not this one. I dont think they are a chain and I would not recommend this place in san antonio. more
