How does a place survive charging so much for a meal. I think they have priced themselves out of the survival market. Pros: Eat with the Mob Cons: Overpriced

""really authentic italian cooking with """"mama"""" in the kitchen. family run, the food is some of the best """"homemade"""" italian food in town. very reasonable prices and cooking that done by southern italy make this a special, yet verycasual place to have a great dinner. "" more

I love Madeo for the pasta with Bottarga. It really is unique. But this family run restaurant is great if you want to eat european tasting food in LA. The food is really delicious, the environment cosy and perfect for business lunches or romantic dinners. more

Best Salmon dinner I have ever had! Melts in your mouth! 2/7/2011

I went there for dinner with some friends last January and ordered the Salmon, spinach, and mashed potatoes. Oh my gosh! I was in heaven! All I can say is I had to savor every bite because I didn't want it to end! Everyone ordered something different so we could have an orgy of tastes and textures! We ordered a few desserts and shared them all. What a wonderful experience. I felt like Queen Latifa in ""Last Holiday!"". I don't know about anyone else, but we had great service. We were treated like royalty. We paid about $100 per person with wine and dessert. Very worth it. I'm going back on February 26 for my birthday! Can't wait! more

Dewicious Yummy 10/13/2009

Madeo is the hang out for the celebrities with excellent food yea yea its expensive alright but if you cant afford it than you should not dine there your paying for the atmosphere and luxury of sitting in an exclusive restaurant not to get the lunch special at 15 dollars a plate of pasta with a large coke.. lol... people common now... if you want cheap for the same tasty italian food then go around the corner to Angelino Cafe its just as good but the atmosphere is not like Madeo... Madeo is Celebrity Status! and the food is soooo good mmm all the pastas are fabulous the desert is really good as well i recomend the ricotta cheese cake and the fruit tart as well as the peach sorbet really good!! Pros: bolognese pasta no the eggplant parmesan lol Cons: the people who complain about it being expensive lol more

old OLD school Italian 7/23/2009

This place is old school.\r \r A school I was never granted acceptance into. And who’s tuition I could not afford.\r \r However, this didn’t prevent me from devouring the best damn Spaghetti alla Bolognese I’ve ever had. Wow, was I impressed.\r \r Animal lovers, don’t hate me. The sauce contained veal. I didn’t know! (a lie, I knew but thought the rich flavor was worth the suffering of an innocent….Not true at all!….I’m so torn!!)\r \r OK, enough with the schizophrenia!\r \r Madeo is filled with high rollers, head honcho’s, the wheeler’s and dealers. And this afternoon, my friend and I (my friend, the bread expert) were allowed access.\r \r Now, I walk away from this slightly pretentious, good ole boys lunch with some high pasta praise. My friend, N.R. however, can only complain about the horrendous bread. I didn’t notice, I thought it was fine. My friend almost became visibly belligerent. I was ready to ask the 12 waitstaff on guard near our table for a blowdart sedative!\r \r For the layman, at Madeo you’ll encounter a place for the rich folk, with very pleasant and plentiful waiters at your disposal, a nearly $30 plate of pasta (which only you will scoff at, as everyone else around you will be expensing theirs) and a basket of bread which you will probably like regardless what my semi-psychotic pal says.\r \r FOR MORE HONEST REVIEWS, SEARCH ONLINE FOR:\r \r BUN BOY EATS LA Pros: AMAZING PASTA Cons: uptight, overpriced more

I went to this restaurant on July 13 for my birthday. Madeo was a great experience as far as the food, atmosphere and service was concerned. The reason I give them 3 stars is because there was an error on the bill and I was given the runaround which I don't appreciate from a 5-star restaurant. I did not notice the error until I got home but there was a $20 error in addition from the total amount and the tip. In my tipsiness I did not add correctly. When trying to get the error fixed it was like a hamster on a wheel. I called first thing Monday morning only to be told the bookkeeper was not in. I called back later in the day only to be told the bookkeeper had already left for the day. I called back Tuesday and was told the bookkeeper was eating lunch and to call back in 30 min. When I FINALLY got thru to the bookkeeper she did not ask me my name or attempt to look up the receipt. She told me to fax over the copy of the receipt with an explanation of what happened. I did so and called back Wednesday morning only to be told the fax had not been received. WTF?? This is supposee to be a 5-star restaurant! She told me to fax it over again but by this time I was so exasperated I decided to just go thru my bank. They credited me the $20 after hearing my story but Madeo still made extra money off me which I am not thrilled about. I would recommend this place if you want EXCELLENT Italian food and nice service but in this economy it seems like even the rich people can be thieves. \r Pros: excellent food, great service, cozy atmosphere Cons: error on bill took forever to resolve & bookkeeper was rude more

How much should a noodle cost 5/30/2009

Is this place kidding? 5/28/2009

How do you get away with charging $28 - $55 for a lunch entree and serve bread that is down right terrible! From the cheap focaccia, horrible baked ciabatta, and the flavorless olive bread. It's time to get more pretencious about your bread vendor and less prentcious to your customers! Pros: entree was good Cons: Overpriced, pretentious and terrible bread more

The best. 9/16/2008

It is one of the best Italian restaurants in town. Easily comparable to the Italian spots I love in NYC.\r Expensive, but you must go and get the Penne with meat sauce, unbelievable more

Nice meal, very expensive 3/25/2008

I went to Madeo's recently for lunch. The service and food were very good overall. The only issues were the price, and the taste. The pasta dishes were good but could (or should) have been larger considering the price. And they were not all that flavorful. Maybe my expectations were too high but for that much money, and that small of a portion, I expected to be WOW'd. Unfortunately I found the dish a bit underwhelming and had to add salt (which I rarely if ever do). And I left the place feeling hungry and a bit ripped-off. I suppose if you are a celebrity and can afford any meal then this is a good place. Nice atmosphere, and nice Italian service. If however you don't have a recent movie deal you may want to try somewhere else where you will get a decent value. Pros: Nice place, okay food Cons: You pay for atmosphere, not the food more

Spaghetti with Veal Bolognese is fantastic! 11/27/2007

Madeo is a great Italian restaurant for a special night out or with guests in town. The service was perfect and the food delicious. Salads, pasta and they'll even make something for you even if it's not on the menu (like an amazing Veal Parmigana). Just make a reservation and enjoy! more

Wow...this is good 8/26/2006

This must be the best place for Italian in BevHills - I really ought to know, as I have tried them all. This is a fantastic restaurant with outstanding food and quite OK service. Especially when the owner himself takes care of you. I love this place and it is perfect for taking anyone and everyone for dinner. Lunch is very good as well as it is somewhat quiet (evenings gets a little bit more loud). Very very good... Pros: Food Cons: Valet more

Best Italian in LA 7/22/2006

This is the real deal for good food. If you like Steak and Lobster pasta that taste like se* for your mouth than Madeo is for you. Expect to pay $100 a head, that is with a good wine, apetizers, dinner, and desert. Simply the best place to eat in town. They have a classic bar and the best wine selection, so you can chill and have a drink. I suggest the Chicken Parmigana, Peppercorn Filet, and Osso Bucco. Make Reservations. Pros: Food, Wine, Booths more

What A Disappointment! 4/17/2006

We recently went here for a special occassion and were extremely disappoined. Over the years the service, the food, and the ambience have always been so good. We were seated quickly only to wait forever to get our order placed. We had to keep asking for drink refills, bread and the food was way under par. It didn't taste fresh and was over sauced. We were so disgusted with the horrible service and tasteless food that we didn't even order dessert. Then it took another drawn out wait for the check to arrive. None of us have been back since. The best part of our evening was dessert at Urth Cafe! more

Madeo 6/12/2003

Wonderful Northern Italian food in a very East Coast atmosphere. Waiters were mixed but the place is very familial. Star spottings one night were Matthew Broderick and Johnny Depp among other familiar character actors. Pros: FOOD, WINE, Ambiance Cons: slow wait staff, too busy more

Madeo Forever! 8/8/2002

Madeo was one of a handful of authentic Italian restaurants I used to frequently dine in the last 80's and throughout the late 90's. I hadn't been in quite a while but went recently in 2002. The restaurant was better than I had remembered. Same owner, great food and old world service that was second to none in Los Angeles. You simply cannot get a better dining experience. It also has one of the best bars and a large wine selection. This is a staple of the city and great for anyone who regularly dines out with friends and business associates. You don't want to bring your kids, unless they're older or very well behaved. more
