Best Apple store ever! 5/14/2012

I Googled MAC TLC to get their phone number and saw that Google has them listed as 5 stars, which I heartily agree with, but City Search has them with 3 stars, so I read the 4 reviews on City Search and think there is something very wrong with the 2 complaining about the repairs. My son's MAC needed repair and the Apple Store couldn't figure it out, so they sent him to MAC TLC to get it fixed! I started with them years ago when my old PC got so infected I was going to have to buy a new one. I was very frustrated, needed a computer right away, and call them because of the name. John told me to come over and I walked out about an hour and a half later with a new computer and printer and excellent tips and explanations and help in setting up the computer. I subsequently had difficulty getting it connected to the printer (OK, I'm a tech dinosaur), so I brought them back , they sat me down in a room with a table and worked it all out for me, even showing me some other tips I'd never have thought to ask about. I've recommended them for years, even took a friend who's another tech dinosaur and never owned a computer before over there to get hers and she was immensely pleased. For Mother's Day, my husband wanted to give me an iPad. We were in Dallas and he surprised me by taking me (and our tech-savvy son) by the Apple Store in North Star Mall and we quickly decided on what to get, but we couldn't get anyone to wait on us! that turned out to be good, because I told him I'd rather buy it from MAC TLC in San Antonio anyway. The only problem when I called this morning was they don't sell the Verizon iPad, just the AT&T (which I HATE!) but it was worth it to go with AT&T to buy it from MAC TLC. John showed me some things I didn't know about, I bought a bluetooth keyboard and ordered a nice case like he has, then he let me sit in a little room and get it set up so I could ask him any questions if I had some. I did, and sat with me and helped me out - just like always. You just don't get kind, friendly, helpful tech savvy people who are willing to take the time to help like that and who can figure out what you would like even if you didn't know it existed anymore! This is the store to buy from (and to have your computer repaired at!). I hope the folks who had bad expriences will go back and talk with John (I think he's the owner), because I know he'll make everything all right. more

Bad customer service and work 8/4/2011

I took my laptop to MacTLC because it was not turning on. They diagnosed as needing a new hard drive, so I agreed and they put one in for me. It cost $175, which I was happy to pay to have my Mac back. They were also able to recover most of my data, which was great. However, when I got my laptop back I was missing several applications that are standard on any Mac and a very important print utility setup that is needed to install printers. When I called and told them this they said they would have to look at it and it would cost at least $75. The things missing are standard, they should have been there when I turned my computer on and I don't feel that I should have to pay them more money to fix something that shouldn't have been broken. Also, about 3 days after getting my computer back the application and documents all disappeared. I can no longer access anything on my computer and I had to buy a new one. So either MacTLC messed up my computer or they misdiagnosed it, either way I will never use them again and would not ever recommend them to any friends. more

Excellent service! 4/9/2010

I've used MacTLC for years and have always received sterling service from their sales and service personnel. I recommend them to all my friends and family (most either have or are planning to move from pc to mac) when its time to buy, upgrade or repair their macs. I couldn't be happier with their service. But, I have been burned by an Apple store: they told my daughter her iMac's motherboard was toast ($800) and talked her into buying a new iMac. When I visited her, I ran Diskwarrior and all was fine. Wrong Diagnosis 12/23/2009

I brought my Apple ibook in for repair, sometimes it would turn on and sometimes not. I was told I needed a new motherboard and it would cost me $450,00. I let the laptop sit for a year and tried to diagnosis it myself and finally came to the conclusion it was the DC inboard so I took it to the Apple Store in LaCantera....$113.00 later and my ibook is fixed and working exceptional!!! The man there doesn't have a clue or he does and he's just trying to rip people off...stay away. Apple Store will diagnosis your computers for free, go there instead. more

Buying A Mac Gets Even Better 4/10/2009

I am a big Apple fan. I purchased an iPhone first and I was astounded. I then purchased a laptop for my wife. I fell in love with it. No crashes. No viruses. No worms. The computer turned on when I asked it too and turned off when prompted. Next, I bought an iMac. I love it. The hard drive malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. At the Apple store, they quoted a price of 600.00 or so and basically no warranty for a 1:1 replacement. The Apple genius man suggested that I call MacTLC. I called MacTLC and learned that for a fraction of the price (50%) I could UPGRADE the failed hard drive and have a 3 year warranty on the product. Mac TLC repaired my iMac in 48 hours or so. I paid a fraction of the price that the Apple store was asking. I received an upgrade (500MB to 1TB) and a 3 year warranty (versus 90 days or something). First of all, Apple is the real deal for allowing their genius technicians to refer me to Mac TLC. Secondly, MacTLC provides a service that is second to none. I hate windows-based computers, but I was really considering whether I made a bad decision in allying with Apple for all of my computing needs after my hard drive failed on iMac. However, the Apple store and Mac TLC have handled themselves in such a manner that I believe now more than ever that Apple will one day completely dominant the PC world.
