Excellent Budget Friendly Lunch 9/15/2006

This was my first time trying Indonesian food and it was great. We ordered the Lunch Special menu (coose 1 appetizer, 1 soup and 1 entree) for 6.99! The price cannot be beat. Portions are huge with plenty leftover to take home. These are some of the best dishes: Tamarind soup, Fried stuffed tofu appetizer more

amazing food 8/12/2006

The food and service here are amazing. I grew up eating Indonesian food and this definitly holds it down. I would recommend the rice stafel if you have never had Indonesian, because it offers you a variety of their different dishes to try. It also comes with the best salad, as well as soup and dessert. So make sure to bring your appetite! more

Good food/atmosphere 4/29/2006

The food was very good. I was with indonesians who were happy with the food which tells me that the restaurant offers authentic meals. It is not expensive also !!!! The only inconvenience is the parking, very hard to get a parking spot specially on a saturday night but that applies to anywhere you go in philly on saturday. more

Amazing... an absolute jewel. 5/5/2005

Just ate there for the second time in the past few months. This place is absolutely amazing! The service is extremely attentive. It was quick and everpresent, yet without ever feeling forced or annoying. The food is extremely tasty... the blends and combinations of foods are marvelous. If this is authentic food, I'm ready to move! I highly recommend the Tahu Telor (tofu, eggs, & bean sprouts with the most amazing sauce), Rujak Manis (mixed fruit with peanut sauce), and Kolak (mixed starchy vegetables & fruits in a sweet coconut broth). The Babi Asam Manis (sweet & sour pork) is more savory and tasty than the Chinese-takeout version. My wife liked her Tumis Tauge Tahu (tofu, bean curd, & bean sprouts), although she thought it a bit more homogenous than the other dishes. The portions are huge, and they were happy to pack up the leftovers. Pros: great tasting food, moderate portions, generous portions Cons: parking more

Exotic 2/11/2005

Mind you I'm Thai. I never had Indonesian food before. I was feeling a little adventurous so my boyfriend and I popped into this quiet restaurant. If you are on a budget, nearly EVERY restaurant in Philly's Chinatown is VERY inexpensive. Indonesia Restaurant is no exception. Anyway, it took us a while to choose from the menu; some dishes seemed too exotic (ox feet tendon soup). We had Gulai Kambing (lamb soup: average), Rendang Sapi (beef with exotic spices: recommended), and Nasi campur (rice combination: highly recommended). The service was average, a little on the slow side. I'm not sure if I would come back again, the food didn't exactly wow-ed us. Pros: Price, Extensive Menu, Prompt Seating Cons: Not for Everyone more

Authentic and Good Value 2/1/2005

Authentic flavors, good value, and very good service made this a great evening. Pros: Good Food, Reasonably Priced, Good Service Cons: Parking more

Great Inexpensive Lunch Specials 11/24/2003

What's not to like? For $6.99 you get a three course (appetizer, soup, entree) generous-sized lunch. Service was prompt and courteous and the cooking is very good. My only complaint is that the food was not exactly piping hot, but maybe that's an Indonesian thing. I'll be back. And it's a no smoking restaurant. Pros: Good Service, Good Value, Tasty Food Cons: Food could be hotter more

I agree 9/27/2003

Definitely inexpensive. The food was tasty, though did not send me like Malaysian food does. To be honest I tried only two dishes. Since the closing of Malaysia and Indonesia, this is the only representative I know of in Philly of this cuisine. My major gripe is the decor: I just found it suffocating and there were no windows either. And is there a rule that Asian restaurants HAVE to play lousy imitation Western music in the background? Pros: food, cost Cons: decor more

Need a Djakarta Newspaper? 4/2/2003

We are always in search of late night dining after belly dance class. Indonesia was a hit for everyone. Everyone found something they could eat and it turned out to be fabulous. Servings were much larger than expected - enough to share around the table and still need a doggy bag! Price! Oh my, we never found anything cheaper! We're definitely returning. Pros: Inexpensive, Non-smoking, Authentic Cons: cramped, white walls more
