Editorial review from Citysearch 1/28/2014

Being lactose intolerant I chose what cheese, if any, I eat very carefully. For Luzzo's I make an exception and take a Lactaid and hope for the best. The thin crust with perfect sauce and fresh mozzarella is worth the rotating knives I might get later. more

Distressing 12/11/2011

I had not been to Luzzo's for a couple of years and I had some good souvenirs of my past visits but I was in for a treat this time- for starters a Camorra lookalike maitre d' seated us and basically threw the menus on the table, my wife and I ordered an escarole and white bean soup which resembled more a bowl of hot water with some green matter, followed by a buffalo mozzarella pizza which was OK but tasteless and then by a plate of soggy, oily spaghetti (very small portion) swimming amidst a few baby tomatoes. more

Really Good Pizza, But Bring Earplugs 9/4/2010

Ok, it was a 7:30 reservation for 9 people, a little tough to accommodate perfectly, but they should've had our table ready. No big deal wait, about 10 minutes, but I had specifically asked that they have the table ready because I was bringing a 90 and 93 year old. Ok, the pizza better be worth the wait...and so it was! The pizza is really the best we Italophile have had in NY...much better than SD 26. The pappardelle with mushrooms was dreamy and the artichoke appetizer quite yummy. The service was good, food came promptly, but we had to ask them 4 times to turn down the music, which was so incredibly loud that the table of 7 ladies across from us had to scream at each other to speak, thus making the room deafening. Once the music was lowered, things were more tolerable. Next time we go, I think we'll bring a smaller group and sit at a booth in the front. And the food is so good, that there will be a next time! more

Great Italian brick oven style pizza 7/19/2010

I don't know why some people got poor service here but when I was here, it was fine. We got our order and food relatively fast. Between my boyfriend and I, we ordered a large spicy salami with cheese pizza and the fried calamari as an appetizer. The pizza is crusty and chewy and the salami was flavorful. I just wish there was more salami! We didn't finish the pizza as the fried calamari came in such a big portion. The price here is pretty reasonable and we had a good time here. Pros: Delicious pizzas more

Outstanding! 7/1/2010

Just had the ricotta pizza and salad at Luzzo's two nights ago and they were both out of this world! The service was prompt and friendly; so, I guess they've heeded previous complaints made on this website. I would highly recommend, if you're looking for real authentic pizza similar to in Italy. Pros: authentic more

Worst service ever! 4/24/2010

Disappointing 10/26/2009

We saw a TV program about this restaurant and traveled to the East Village to seek it out. The service was excellent... very attentive. The waiter even offered to let us sample arugula as we were not sure we would like it. Pros: Best eggplant parmegiana appetizer ever Cons: Average pizza more

The buzz is true!!! The food was AMAZING, if you know authentic Italian cooking it's ALL that & more to rave about...Let me tell you a little about my experience...We started with appetizers... Pros: Authentic Italian Food more

service so bad you'll wish you'd never heard of the place 8/12/2009

ordered two pies a week ago for take out, one a vegetarian (the arugula) for my girlfriend. We get back to our apartment to find they've given us the vegetarian with prosciutto. Normally not a big problem, we'll call them up, tell them they gave us the wrong pizza, go back and exchange it. Instead, we call them up, the hostess insists, actually yells, that they did not make a mistake (their online menu was different than their house menu), and I have to go back there to show them their error on my phone; they did not believe me until I showed them this! Only then did I get the right pizza, an hour and a half after we had ordered. I'm not one to insist that the customer is always right, but when there is clearly a mistake on their part it is just appalling to be yelled at over the phone. unbelievable! What's more, a week later they still haven't updated their online menu! Pros: good, not great pizza Cons: terrible service more

Best Authentic Pie in 'hood! 5/27/2009

This is by far my favorite authentic Italian Pizza place in NYC. My friends and I love this place. The calamari is tender and never over cooked. The pastas are to die for. The owner/staff are the most friendly around. Highly recommended. You can go wrong here folks. Plan to wait for a table on the weekends though...well worth it. Pros: all the food. Cons: crowded more

'n muostro 'e pizza 5/4/2009

I am an Italian guy from Naples, grew up between the best pizzerias in the world, and when I travel the world I always miss the taste of home. I found it now in the East Village, , there is a place called Luzzo's. Pros: little Napoli more

THE BEST PIZZA EVER 4/8/2009

good pizza but only for takeout. 2/20/2009

the pizza is okay...but the service is not good at all..because one day that i was there one of the waiters pulled down his pants in front of every1 and i was so disgusted that my wife wanted to leave immediately so i do not reccomend to go eat pizza at this place olny for take out is good..and also its very pricey and besides the pizza the food is disgusting...and dont get me started about the bread they gave me 2 slices and one of the waiters spilled water all over my wife's purse and we didnt find out till we left! so luzzos is not one of the best places to go eat! more

Best Neopolitan Slice in New York 2/11/2009

I walked into Luzzos in the east village and ended up in Naples, Italy. If you are looking for a real Italian pizza instead of a New York pizza then Luzzos is the spot to go in New York City. This hot coal oven cooked Neapolitan style pizza with imported buffalo mozzarella from Italy tastes so good. I sometimes feel like back traveling in Italy and stopping for a little slice of heaven. If anyone going with you is not a fan of pizza I say with a doubt the gnocchi is a good choice for a pasta dish. Pros: Excellent pIzza Cons: A little bit pricey more

I Love Luzzo's 1/21/2009

I am a very fussy eater and I have to say that Luzzo's pizza is terrific --- crisp, thin crust and just enough cheese. I much prefer it to Lombardi's. I also have tried their yummy homemade pasta dishes with bolognese sauce . Only once the pasta was slightly underdone for my taste. The service is excellent as well - speedy and attentive. more

Best pizza in NY 12/28/2008

I know a lot of restaurants claim to have the best pizza in NYC, but I think Luzzo's is the real one. I've tried describing to my friends exactly what makes Luzzo's so good, but I've been unable to come up with an justifiable description. If you're a pizza person, just give this a try. Pizza is sold only by the pie (not slice) so you'll have to have some friends to share with, but it's definitely worth it. Pros: Awesome pizzas Cons: Because the restaurant is popular and it uses fresh ingredients, they sometimes run out of certain entrees more
