You've never seen anything like it! 5/7/2007

You will never find another experience like visiting ""The Jack Saloon"" EVER, ANYWHERE! First of all, it is located 15 miles from the nearest town, Lolo! Second, it is in the middle of the mountains of Western Montana (about 25 miles from the city of Missoula- where I live.) And last (of course I could list a hundred things) it is a log building- but not just any logs- GIANT CEDARS ( the walls are only 4 logs high!) Besides the location itself being so awesome, I have to mention the folks that own & run the place. You will not find more friendly or better service from coast to coast! These people know what running a tavern is all about. They are great bartenders themselves and hire real people who love the place as much as they do. There is nothing fancy or pretentious about ""The Jack"" (short for lumbarjack.) It is a laid-back spot in the woods with a big yard, a creek, a pond, and some cabins that are available to rent (nothing fancy, but a great value-especially after tying one on with the locals.) The food is simple- grilled or fried- great for stalling intoxication so you can last the whole day or night, but food is not the reason for visiting this place, there is antique logging equipment and memorabilia hanging in the rafters, a great big fireplace and high-back barstools carved out of whole logs (no nails or glue involved-these are solid chunks of wood!) There is even a rope swing hanging at the bar with a solid seat cut from a log! Another great thing about ""The Jack"" is that you can camp out for free in a tent, RV or camper. They have horseshoe pits, a gazebo, a huge patio with picnic tables, and of course, good, stiff drinks. It is ""rustic"" in every sense of the word, but if you want to experience a unique, friendly establishment and have a great time, I would highly recommend visiting ""The Jack"" and taking advantage of all it's natural beauty (and that includes the owners and staff)!!!!! Pros: Live music on Saturday nights, unique, secluded, great service more
