Editorial review from Citysearch 2/4/2013

I thought this would be a great place to help my son, but unfortunately found them not value their consumer. They charge you $50 for cancelling an appointment within less than 24 hours....they preach this and require you to sign paperwork to acknowledge your understanding of this. For our second appointment, I was called 5 minutes prior to the appointment as I pulled into the parking lot to be told they inadvertantly doublebooked and they had to cancel. I later request a minumum of a $50 credit on my account, just as they would have required of me. I explained that my husband and I each left work more than 2 hours early and pulled my son out of scholl 1.5 hours early and drove a half hour to get there. I was told that the director said ""It is not something that he allows here because he sees that though inconvenient, sees these as scheudling errors that can be rescheduled and that a business relationship is not reciprocal always in the way that relationships are."" \r Very unfortunate. That is no way to start off a long term relationship that will involve trust and respect. I wish I could get the $160 back that I paid for my first appointment. more

Lucy Daniels Center, not specifically the preschool 5/10/2012

Unfortunately, we had a negative experience with the LDC. At our initial (parents only) meeting, we discussed our young daughter's OCD and the MD we met with assured us they could help her. He explained the benefits of CBT and how effective it is with OCD. To come up with an individualized therapy plan for her, they would need to observe her several times to get a feel for her personality, strengths, weaknesses, etc. After many appts, much time and money spent for all this, we were told there was no way she could be a candidate for CBT and it was never done of children her age. WHAT? At our initial appt, we were assured this was the way to go and it was NEVER mentioned that doing it at her age was unlikely. INSTEAD, he was more than happy to give us a tour and info on their special preschool that costs $30K a year. That last meeting, which we had to pay for, was nothing but a sales pitch for the preschool, which might be great, but we were so turned off and disgusted by how misled we were that we are not pursuing it. He said there was nothing they could do for our child, afterall other than the preK. I feel like we were paying to be research data for them (thru the complex and lengthy child development history that took me 10 hours to complete and their 3 observations of my daughter). After MUCH wasted money and time (while she continued to get worse), we have found another place who is treating her with CBT, and it has been quite effective so far. more

Inconsistent 3/27/2012

We had our child in therapy services at Lucy Daniels. while the team was good at first, they won't work with insurance to have assistance funded by insurance and have programs that are not covered at all. The school is not for families with 2 working parents: They cater to families that have a stay at home parent or full time child care and won't recommend any other child care alternatives. \r \r Their billing practices are questionable and it is obvious that they just want the bottom dollar amount. more

Great school, friendly staff, miss it a lot 12/18/2010

It's truly a great school. Caring and friendly teachers and staff alike. They do care kids' psychological well being and emotional needs. My kid loved every day there. He made great friends and grew so much. Now he still talked about Lucy Daniels after he started kindergarten. They are more expensive than church afiliated programs. But some church-run preschools are not so good. For our second one, we enrolled in Genesis preschool on high house road, which is closer to our house. But I was wrong. We decided to withdraw after couple months of unpleasant experience. The quality of teaching and learning is nowhere close to Lucy Daniels. more

Great, caring preschool 3/3/2009

As the preschool search heats up, I wanted to put in a good word for the Lucy Daniels Center. This will be our family's 3rd year at the school, and we've been thrilled. It's a NAEYC Accredited, 5 star licensed nationally awarded progrm. You may have heard of them in Carolina Parent's column or quoted in national parenting magazines. This year they'll be offering classes for 3-4 year olds developing within the typical range or who have mild delays that would allow them to participate in an inclusive classroom setting. They also offer an Early Intervention Program for kids needing support in social/ emotional areas. \r \r As a parent, I was struck by several things that make this program different from others. First, it's an 11 month, half-day preschool. For us, this has provided a consistency that made going back to school after break easier. It's a secular program with a good mix of students from a variety of backgrounds. They also have smaller than required classes. The most important thing for us was the phase-in program, which allows you to slowly transition your child in at the beginning of the year by staying increasingly shorter periods until the child is comfortable staying on their own. For kids like mine who are incredibly attached and have a difficult time with separation, this is a wonderful thing in making them feel safe and secure. They also don't require that a child be potty-trained by a certain deadline, but work with the parents on the child's schedule. They've been great in helping our child deal with the changes that come with a new sibling. You can tell they really care about the kids. They call to let you know that the child is missed when they are out sick, and even offered to let my child talk to his friends on speaker phone when he'd been out a week sick. I can't say enough great things about them, and I strongly encourage those of you looking for a preschool to consider them. Pros: teachers work closely with parents more

real help for our kid... 2/25/2009

Three years ago, my older child was an enigma- very smart, funny, creative, but also terrified of light fixtures, ceiling fans and bathroom faucets. She was defiant, loud, sometimes very aggressive, constantly talking, interrupting everyone. She had terrible tantrums when things did not go her way. Friends worried. Our family and pediatrician were certain it was simply a discipline problem. I knew my daughter had good reasons for the way she behaved. We searched in vain for practical help that would not entail medication or rewards and punishment as a first line of defense. There is no doubt in my mind that preschool anywhere other than LDC would have been a disaster. At Lucy Daniels, we found a group of experienced, insightful, incredibly dedicated professionals willing to take a very deep look at what was happening in the inner world of our child. Our daughter was treated as a real person with real feelings, a child crying out for help, not a ?spoiled brat.? The incredible teachers and clinical staff have worked closely with our family on a daily basis- we are a team working to support her and challenge her growth at the pace that is right for her. Our daughter is now finishing her last (of two) year in Lucy Daniel?s early intervention program. It wasn?t a quick fix and it hasn?t always been easy. We still have our struggles. She still has her quirks and probably always will but Lucy Daniels Center has given my daughter back her life and returned sanity to our family. Because of Lucy Daniels, our daughter has a fair chance at a truly happy, fulfilled, productive life. We are forever in their debt. Pros: teachers with incredible patience, skill, and insight. Cons: no classes after first grade! more

Very Disappointed 1/4/2009

I was very disappointed with my experience at the Lucy Daniels Center. My son was tested for ADHD by one of the Dr.'s there. Not only was he misdiagnosed but we are also trying to resolve some billing issues a year later. \r Per the Doctor's recommendation, we put our son in therapy for anger issues. After one session and further testing with another doctor at a different practice, she confirmed that our son did have ADHD, not anger issues.\r \r Concerning the billing issues, they have very deceptive billing practices. We were approved for psy. testing by our insurance company and only had to pay a copay. Now, LDC is claiming that we owe them for additional hours. Per my insurance company, we do not. If there were additional hours of testing done then they should have been approved by the insurance company, per there contact with them. I have been harassed by the Lucy Daniels Center and they have now sent it to collections. I have spent hours trying to resolve this with no help from the Lucy Daniels Center. The Lucy Daniels Center, after I called the insurance company to clear this up, promised not to send the bill to collections until the insurance company had time to process the claim. Well, that was a lie. They sent it to collections. Now, I am in constant communication with my insurance company trying to ensure that this is not attached to my credit. \r I DO NOT recommend this center and regret the day we walked in there to get help for our child.
