Really bad service, Overpriced 7/5/2007

Pretty good food but the service was terrible. My dining companion and I had to ask for water twice. Our salads took 45 minutes to the table. My companion asked for a second glass of wine with dinner. By the time she got it, she was half way through the meal....it took over 10 minutes and while waiting, the waitress was filling other peoples water glasses, not serving food. . My companion had to walk up to the ""bar"" to request the glass of wine for a second time. A glass of wine, salad and plate of gnochi was $25. While $25 is not excessive, there is no bread served with the salad and no meat in the pasta....... It took over an hour and a half to get the food. For the price, I expect much better service........get an extra waitress on a Saturday night for goodness sake! Pros: The salad, after a 45 minute wait, was tasty Cons: Terrible service and expensive-I won't pay to be ignored for an hour-will you? more

Best little Italian joint in Portland! 4/1/2007

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland -- Old School Italian with a cosy atmosphere and friendly personal service. It's even a little bit romantic, especially with the live music on Sunday nights. The food is very authentic and delicious, owing the flavors to high quality, fresh ingredients and keen attention to seasonings. My favorite dish is the Pasta Gregorio (spaghetti with walnuts, spinach, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and other wonderful flavors, including white wine maybe). I don't know why the previous reviewer can't enjoy a meal in a place that has a photo of Frank Sinatra on the wall, but Pasta Bella is very clean and friendly, and serves wonderful food at very reasonable prices. Pros: food, service, ambience, great overall value Cons: small space, but well utilized. Reservations might be a good idea on busy nights or for a larger group, but my family of 4 has never had to wait for a table yet. more

It's just a freak show.. 2/18/2007

I hate restaurants that is covered with picture of dead people on the wall....Is certanly not appealing to me and does not put me in a good mood for food..The place is dirty and the chitchen is directly open to the main building garage..(sanitary????)The wine was avaliable at a discount price at Safeway. The food was without flavor...no wonder nobody was there... more

A hidden treasure 11/3/2006

Who would of thought that a place in a non descript building next to the Oregonian would be a culinary experience that one finds usually at restaurants twice the price. The food has a freshness and care to detail found in much hgher end restuarants. I highly recommend this to people out for some great Italian food in a casual atmoshere. Pros: Freshness of food Cons: Location more

Glad we decided to check this palce out.... 11/3/2006

Although I have visited most of the downtown restaurants over the years, somehow I had missed this one. Looking at the place from the outside I really did not have high expectations as the layout is quite strange for a restaurant, from the outsdie it looks more like a coffee shop. Pros: Everything was great, knock out a couple of walls and it will be favorite place in PDX! Cons: Ambience, too crowded, but I would definitely go on a slow night! more

One of the best restaurants on the MAX Line! 10/31/2006

I didn't know what Lorenzos was for a while. The owner would occasionally come into my work and buy ingredients for his restaurant. I enjoyed talking to the owner, and I was invited to come into the restaurant. I lived by the restaurant for so long, and I walked by it all the time. Pros: Friendly, Knowledgeable, Never Busy Cons: Just the view in outdoor seating (they can't help it :) more

Excellent service, Italian atmosphere and food 8/16/2006

Just another Italian restaurant. Warm and cordial atmosphere has disappeared with the sale and the food quality is now average. Pros: Food is average Cons: Restaurant is small, atmosphere uninviting. more

Awesome 7/11/2006

Pasta Bella is truly a family-run restaurant. They will take excellent care of you. If you want to sample the wine, just ask. I went for my birthday and the owner personally talked with me and wished me well, then gave me a complimentary glass of wine. The food is excellent but the service is really the deciding factor. Pros: Customer service, intimate space, excellent food more

First Timer 10/9/2005

My husband and I tried Pasta Bella last night on ""Sinatra Sunday."" I was sooo impressed by the warm family environment. It was a little smaller than I anticipated, but that made it cozy and romantic. The menu is small to go with the restaurant size, but the prices were very reasonable. And, the food was FABULOUS! They also have a full bar with many wine choices, so you can choose the perfect wine for your dish. I definately recommend to go when ""The Voice"" is performing. He's fantastic!! Reservations are probably a good idea if you have more than 2 people. more

Excellente! 5/9/2005

I have eaten at Lorenzo's Pasta Bella many times and have never been dissapointed. The food is wonderful, I have not ordered a dish that I haven't liked. The service and atmosphere make each visit very enjoyable. My new favorite night is Sunday's. Their ""Sinatra Sundays"" are one of a kind. The Frank Sinatra tribute singer is great. I highly recommend this place. Pros: Food, Wait Staff, Atmosphere Cons: Size more

Authentic? 5/2/2005

I went to Pasta Bella last week for dinner with my fiance, having both relocated from NYC last month. We've been searching for a good pasta place, well were we disappointed! My neighbors recomended this place and we were eager to try it out.I dont know where these people are from but it certainly isnt within miles of any Italian neighborhood Iv'e heard of. Authentic? My pasta was overcooked, my wifes stuffed breast of chicken had bacon,Not pancetta. I know because Pancetta is not smoked, its cured and this tasted like a salty smokey rubbery waste of money. Portland, Dont put up with Lousy Italian Food thats overpriced Pros: Nice waiter, good wine Cons: Food, Price, unorganized more

Above My Expectations 10/9/2004

Last weekend I stopped into ""Lorenzos Pasta Bella"" for the first time. I moved to Portland from the East Coast almost 2 Years ago, and have been passing by this little, family-owned Italian Restaurant every day since. The food reminded me of home and the service make you feel like family. siiting at the bar I got to look around and see KIDS with coloring crayons having fun. Pros: Price 4 Portions, Free Parking, Romantic & KIDs more

Bite before the game 7/27/2004

My family and I were looking for somewhere to grab a bite before the Beavers game and stumbled across Pasta Bella. Unfortunately, there aren't many experiences that exceed expectations, but our dinner there did just that. The menu was authentic and inspired. My wife, who wasn't even hungry, ordered the chicken stuffed with Procuitto with mushrooms and finished the whole plate. Papa Lorenzo makes you feel like your part of his family and eating in his house. Nice find! more

An evening to remember...... 6/2/2004

I had the good fortune of being invited to join a group of friends for dinner at Pasta bella one evening. I was very impressed with the cuisine. There was a good combination of simple, authentic fare and delectable dishes bursting with complex flavors and wonderful aromas. The staff was very friendly and the service outstanding; our server suggested the perfect wines to accompany our food. I was even informed that I was parked in a private lot and our server promptly ran out and put a permit on my car himself. A unique ambience and romantic setting make it perfect for couples while still remaining inviting to the casual diner. I will definitly be back! Pros: Ambience, Very Authentic, Knowledgable staff more

A warm and pleasant experience 8/11/2002

The service is always great at Pasta Bella. A glass of Montepuciano with the duck is worth the price. The lamb is very savory but the sauce is on the salty side. Everything is presented beautifully and the restaurant offers formal eating without being stuffy or pretensious Pros: Service!, Parking, Quiet more
