Sometimes you will find a gem, but then quickly put it back once you see the price tag. Rediculous! And the staff will not be amused if you haggle at all. A real dissapointment.

Online shopping was great 5/14/2009

I got the journal I ordered today (5/11/09) and it was in fine shape and well packaged. I prefer not to have the price markings on the inside but that's OK as it's erasable. If you had a rating system, I would be more than delighted to give all 5's/5 for promptness(2 days from Portland to South Florida!), neat packaging, good shape, etc.\r \r Thank you\r \r William M Keller, Ed.D Pros: Quick delivery;Well packaged more

A nice old style bookstore- not for everyone, just for people who like character 3/5/2008

This is a great old bookstore. It reminds of the kind that used to be around when I was younger and before everything became homogenized, and I appreciate it for that. I suspect that people who are looking for cheap bargains or a corporate decor won't be very pleased by what they find, but for people who appreciate independent businesses this is a great place to try. The prices definitely aren't on the low end for most things, but it appears they're also trying to focus on rarer and collectible materials, so you wouldn't expect them to be. It's filled with all manner of memorabilia, ephemera and local items, so it's nice just to see what's on the walls as well as the shelves. The people behind the counter seem friendly enough if you're willing to start a conversation, but otherwise they tend to leave you alone. It's certainly not for everyone, but people who love books and stores with character should appreciate it for what it is. Pros: Ambiance, selection, that old book store smell Cons: Not the place for bargains more

Great old bookstore with magazines and sheet music; comes highly recommended 2/28/2007

This is a great old place for people who love stores with character. It's an old style bookstore filled with books, paper, magazines, sheet music, sports memorabilia, etc. It is starting to look a little more updated and cleaner every time I go in, but it's definitely still a family owned and run business with a lot of interesting stock you won't find elsewhere, along with a solid fiction/literature section. Not good for mysteries or science fiction, but great for collectible/rare/antiquarian books, first editions, the social sciences, philosophy, music, etc. I highly recommend this place, but they're only open in the afternoons, last I checked from around 11-5 Monday through Friday and Saturday afternoon. Pros: Ambiance Selection Service Cons: No morning hours more

Great old style bookstore with lots of interesting stuff 1/1/2007

In a city of bookstores, this one is more interesting than most. I know it's been around for at least 10 years, and it's definitely independent: It feels like one of the stores you'd find in the old days. Filled with interesting stuff, run by an interesting guy and his son, it has good, solid stock with some rare and collectible stuff as well as a smattering of music, ephemera, etc. You won't find the bestsellers, but you should find great copies of the classics along with other fun stuff. It's also mostly an afternoon store, but it's also open on Saturdays if you can't make it during the week. more
